Happily Never After: A laugh out loud romantic comedy Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 787 ratings

She closed her eyes. Think with your head. Your heart can’t be trusted. Life is not a fairytale…

Single mum Rory doesn’t believe in love. She’s got far too many real problems to deal with.

She’s just bought a tumbledown house. Her mother is generally behaving like a wicked witch, insisting on calling her Aurora, and generally interfering in her (admittedly pitiful lack of) love life. And her 16-year-old daughter has finally grown out of Disney princesses and discovered dating…

But
Rory’s adamant that she doesn’t need saving. In fact, the only thing she’s wishing on a star for is a bit of practical help. However, when she meets a builder whose name is John Prince and who seems to be in the habit of rescuing her (right down to finding her lost shoe one evening) she might have to face a truth as uncomfortable as hobbling home barefoot – that maybe there’s something enchanted in the air.

Her mother, daughter and friends are convinced her prince has come, but Rory just wishes everyone could let it go. Especially when she hears a story that makes her question whether he is really the hero everyone thinks he is…

A hilarious, romantic love story about mothers, daughters and how on earth to find Prince Charming, for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Marian Keyes and Cecelia Ahern.

It’s a cute story. I never actually laughed out loud. Nothing particularly exciting happens. I mostly like a strong female lead; which we have in spades here. She’s a great character. Overall the book is pleasant.

There were several moments where I definitely laughed out loud. Rory is an independent women who tries to tackle a major remodel on her house. She attempts to refuse all help but she manages to get exactly what she needs to make it all come together. She's passionate about her career as a teacher and her students are learning, which is a shocker to the administrators. I'll look for more books from this author.

Ordered this as a holiday light read. It was slow & predictable. Book equivalent of a Hallmark movie. Definitely not a "laugh out loud romantic comedy" as the title indicates.

So I was flicking through the pages on my kindle trying to choose which book to read and realised I had an Emma Robinson book on there I hadn't read. How on earth had I let that happen?! Obviously had to put it right straight away....

Every time I pick up one of Emma's books I know I am in for a treat. This was no exception. I absolutely love how strong, caring and downright stubborn Rory is! She is just a wonderfully rounded character, and I feel a little sad to have finished the book and be without the character I have come to believe is my friend! Absolutely laugh out loud in places and tugs at your heart in others. Amazing. Also loved the little fairy tale moments in the book, made me smile.

I was completely absorbed by this story, a slice of life with the humour, heart, and yes, romance, that real life holds. A heroine to champion, a beautifully real family, a must read.
