    Where to begin with this book? It was the perfect end to this series. It checked every box you could ever want in a book. I am actually a little sorry to be writing this review because this is a series no one who read it wanted to see end. I feel like I’m going to be missing my friends. I became invested in the people and their lives. They took small town living to a whole different meaning. They showed us what it means to see the heart and soul of people who have each other’s backs. Of course there’s always the town troublemakers. Wouldn’t life be dull without them. Even they are needed to show us the flip side of life. They add to life’s color.

    The authors who wrote this series are genius. They knew just how to delve deep into these characters lives and bring them to life. Anyone who reads these books will want to visit Bootleg and meetup with all these fabulous people.
    The collaboration between the authors is flawless. Each story melded right into the next one.

    As far as this book, Highball Rush, well we get to find out all the answers we were looking for. All the mysteries are solved. If you read the previous books you have theories as to what happened. You’ll find out how good of a detective you are or if you should turn in your badge. We get to see all the transformations and connections that are made. The best part is witnessing Gibson and seeing him gradually come back to life. There’s a saying that goes, “The Bigger they are the harder they fall”. Never was there a truer phrase. He fell like a great Redwood in the Forrest. It was beautiful. I felt all the “feels” in this book. He was the perfect hero for the end of this series. Every time I read the newest book I thought they were my favorite but then the next one would be right there with the first one. What I will say is the perfect characters started and ended this series. It was perfectly book ended!
    I could go on and on with my love for this book. This book made me so happy to read it and yet sad that it’s over. You can bet Mona Lisa McNugget the sixth that I will be re-reading this series over and over. I will say that the bonus material and afterwards alone that the author provided are worth the price of the book. If it doesn’t get to you, check your heart. Mine grew two sizes reading it. I know this is the end for our Bootleg family but I always hold out hope that we’ll be hearing more from them. They will remain timeless with me. Bravo to both authors. Thanks for the memories. Y’all done real good!

    Every time I read this (3 times now, at least once a year), I literally can’t get enough!!! This one of my ALL TIME FAVES from Claire and it is just so freaking perfect. The perfect ending to an amazing series and cannot recommend this to people enough! Gibson is top tier, 100/10, grumpy, manly, protective, and all the yumminess one can want in a MMC.     Claire Kingsley and Lucy Score opened my eyes to a new world of literature. I’ve always leaned toward murder mysteries, action thrillers and science fiction but one day I was looking through the Kindle Unlimited store and downloaded book by these two brilliant women. I admit, I didn’t think I’d be too interested but I figured, ‘what the hell, I’ll give it a shot,’ and that started my love affair with romance novels. I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only did this romance novel give me the mystery and excitement I’ve always looked for in a book... but what really captured my heart is how passionately they use love, friendship, family and community as an anchor in their stories. That passion translates to an emotional honesty and openness that resonated so deeply that it has expanded, not only what I look for in a book, but has opened my eyes to the passion and emotional honesty in my own life. I began my romance novel journey in March this year with the Blue Moon series and have since read every single book Claire and Lucy have written together and independently (I’ve had to up my goodreads challenge twice now) I waited (sort of) patiently for Highball Rush and read it as soon as it hit my kindle. (I may or may not have ignored everything the entire day because I could not put it down). I have only one issue with this book.. that I’ve finished it. As hard as I tried to savor it to prolong the impending sadness of another series coming to a close, I just couldn’t put it down. It’s that good! And the sexual energy! Oh my god.. how these women take the idea and act of sex painting a picture, creating a feeling that is nothing short of erotic and all class... that, my friends, is just amazing. So, if anyone even read far enough of this rambling review, I absolutely recommend this book and anything written by these two. Happy reading!     Gibson wins for the sexiest Bodine brother. He’s strong, grumpy, talented and secretly sweet. He struggles with feeling like he was never wanted and strives to be the exact opposite of this father. The investigation weighs on him and he’s never gotten over Callie’s disappearance.

    Callie, who goes by Maya now, returns to Bootleg Springs when her boss sends her to check out new talent. She’s a producer and Gibson’s voice has caught the attention of many labels. When she becomes aware that her cold case was re-opened she returns to set the record straight. Callie is strong, smart, loving and kind.

    Gibson and Callie are a perfect match. They both see each other for their true selves. I love that they share a love of music and that they were good friends before she disappeared. Callie softens Gibson’s rough edges and Gibson makes Callie feel safe and loved. They work together to bring her parents down once and for all and get justice for Callie, Jonah Sr. and Connie.

    We finally get all the answers to the Callie Kendall mystery. The way the town comes together to help is amazing. The moonshine truth serum scene was funny and so Bootleg.

    Full of laughter, love, hope, heat and an HEA.

    I’ve loved this series and the best I think is this last one. Gibson, ah I just love a monosyllabic gruff man and boy is he a hard nut to crack. Callie as just so brave and yet a great character unaware of the exact events of the past. The township is full of characters and it’s just so larger than life, over the top wonderful. My only gripes, I like retribution and I’m at a loss why a character in the town persists in putting folk in danger, is town and her father doesn’t sort her out. Wish Scarlett had done more. Also felt that one of the major players of this mystery got off too easy and we weren’t told why they treated Callie the way they did. Anyway sheer brilliance and wonderful read.

    Claire Kingsley delivers an amazing end to the Bootleg Springs series with Highball Rush.

    Gibson is a broody, country singing, dirty talking loner trying to do all he can to shake off his fathers legacy. He is fiercely loyal and protective of those he loves. Watching him come to terms with his fathers actions, fall for a mysterious woman with mermaid hair and the resolution of the disappearance of Callie Kendall had me swooning hard for grumpy Gibson.

    There are so many feels in this book that you won’t be able to put it down. And there’s a good dose of Bootleg Justice to have you cheering from your seat.

    Also, this author sure does know how to write a first kiss and a dirty mouth....sigh!!

    Whilst each book centres on a new couple therefore could be read as a stand alone I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend reading this series in order as the mystery that weaves through the story is so compelling you won’t regret taking the time to read in order.

    Claire Kingsley & Lucy Score delivered an exceptional family series and we can only hope that they will collaborate again in the future.
