I enjoyed reading the new book in this delightful series. Lilly and Abigail have been asked to cater a fundraising event to benefit their village of Plumpton Mallet. This will be a huge feather in their caps, hopefully leading to more high profile events. The current long time Mayor and his rival are both in attendance, and there is a lot of tension on both sides, especially regarding the man running to become the new mayor. Not all of his ideas are welcome, especially regarding the shop owners on the outskirts of town. His nephew who is running his campaign is boorish, and has alienated a lot of people. When the new Mayoral candidate is found dead at the end of the night, Lilly is determined not to get involved, but niggling doubts keep creeping in and she just can't help herself. Along with her friend Archie, she starts asking questions and the answers just don't add up. Fast paced, enjoyable characters, it held my interest throughout. Halfway through I had my suspicions about who the culprit was bit it didn't detract from the story. A satisfying ending and I look forward to the next book in the series.

The link at the end of the book to Lilly's Tea Emporium is very nice. All things tea, books, recipes, tea sets and other delightful items is a very nice touch. 😊

High Tea, Low Opinions is the eighth book in J. New's Tea & Sympathy mysteries. Set in a small northern English town called Plumpton Mallet, the protagonist, Lilly Tweed, is a former Agony Aunt (advice columnist) who currently owns a tea emporium and half interest in a local cafe. This installment involves a local political race where one of the candidates is murdered at a fundraising event being hosted by his opponent. Due to the controversial nature of some of the victim's proposals for the future of the town, there is an absolute plethora of suspects for the police to sort through.

The character and plot development in this series is excellent with enough backstory included so new readers can enjoy each book individually. By utilizing a large variety of suspects, the author treats the reader to an interesting mystery whose true villain comes as a complete surprise but with a motive that weaves together the intrigue of timeless mysteries. This series is perfect for fans of Laura Childs' Indigo Tea Shop Mysteries.

I received an ARC of this book from Booksirens and the author and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the 8th book in the series but only the second one that I have read. Although they are a part of a series, I feel they can be read as a stand-alone.

Lilly Tweed is the owner of the Agony Aunt (I'm guessing Britain's version of Dear Abby) and the tea shop in town, the Tea Emporium. She is also an amateur sleuth. She lives in Plumpton Mallet, a quaint British village in Northern England; a popular stop for tourists and bus tours given its rich historical background.

With her friend and business partner Abigail, who runs the cafe, they are contracted by the mayor and his assistant to cater their council fundraising event. It's also an election year and the mayor has gone unopposed for years, until now. Russell Davis is running against him and unfortunately, he is also found dead at the event. However, this time Lilly is determined not to get involved with this murder.

After several days of restless sleep, she decides that asking around and looking into things couldn't hurt. She soon uncovers a rivalry between the town officials and discovers that Russell wasn't well liked by more than a few people in and around town. Lilly, along with her boyfriend Archie and a local detective Bonnie, set out to set a trap to catch the killer.

This is another great book in this series. So far, I have not been disappointed. The characters are endearing, the setting is perfect, and I love the world building this author has done so far. The chapters are short, and the writing is great, it all comes together in the end. I received this book free from Booksirens for an honest review.

High Tea Low Opinions is Book 8 in A Tea and Sympathy Mystery by J New. I thought that this was an enjoyable cozy mystery. Lilly Tweed owns Tea Emporium and half of of a cafe with Abigail Douglas. They are excited to cater the Mayor's fundraiser; until a murder occurs. Councilman Carl Davis is accused of murdering his uncle it is Lilly, Archie, and Detective Bonnie digging into the killing. I enjoy the characters and J New always writes such good mystery. Another terrific murder mystery with Lilly finding the clues as she chats with people over tea. With excellent tea remedies along the way as she heals the body and soul.

Not the best Lily Tweed story. A lot of the story not happening in the book only in the characters minds, which we cast read. The ending was predictable.

One of my favourite “cozy” series and it never fails to please. Likeable characters, interesting plot and of course justice is always served. I was kept guessing till near the end, very near the end!
