This book is outstanding. It's definitely one of the best I've found, because it breaks the process for change down step by step, and thought by thought. For instance, I can sometimes watch TV for 5 hours a day, and then feel guilty and think of the things I could have done with those 5 hours. Thibaut breaks this behavior down using video games as an example. He asks poignant questions, such as what will your life be like in 20 years if you continue this behavior? That's huge! I won't be happy if it continues even 1 year, because I view it as time lost and wasted. After reading the book, and asking myself what am I getting from this behavior, I've decided I like to have an escape from the stress of the day, I feel relaxed and I enjoy the programs I watch. That being said, I can live with 2-3 hours a day, but more that that is not in keeping with the person I want to be. If I do want to binge watch something, I can limit it to one night a week, or whatever feels right for me. Thibaut suggests replacing the time you cut down on one activity with something that you'd like to replace it with. I recently read that if you read for 20 minutes a day you can read 10 or more books in a year. That's a start and something I would feel proud about if I can switch out 20 minutes of TV watching for reading everyday. As I realize I don't have forever to accomplish the goals I've had tucked away in the back of my mind for years, I've been looking for the kick start that I need to actually get going on those things that are most important to me, and get rid of the ones that aren't serving me well at this point. This book is definitely helping me with that process.

I'm a procrastinator. That's one of many bad habits I have. I'll admit it. Although, I'm not nearly as bad as I used to be. By chance, I was fortunate enough to have followed a lot of the advice that is found in this book. But I want more. I want to be even better. Habits seem like a small thing, but I realized that a large part of who we are and what we accomplish in our lives is determined by the regular habits that we follow. I think this book illustrated that most clearly with an interesting little tidbit of information - "If you write for 15 minutes a day, you could write a book every 6 months. If you read for 30 minutes a day, you could read 200-300 books in five years." It's amazing how much more we could be doing with our time. And I want to be doing more! That's why I loved this book. It's a no-nonsense, no BS method for gradually implementing habits into your life that can change the overall outcome of the entirety of your life. There are no claims for instant success or fail-proof methods. Just a realistic and rock solid plan for implementing good habits into your life, and breaking the bad ones. It's so easy that anyone can do it, and so difficult that everyone should read a book on how to do it. I recommend reading this one.

I really liked and appreciated this book for four reasons:

    1. Meurisse is concise- he doesn't include the fluff that other authors do. I really appreciate that!

    2. The book includes a lot of different ideas in it. It is not written like other books where each chapter expresses one idea and develops it.

    3. This book is geared specifically towards creating habits that will contribute to your personal success, in contrast to other books that might focus on neurology, an organization's habits, or consumer habits.

    4. Chapter titles and headings make sense. Instead of titles such as "The End of Time Management: Illusions and Italians" (from The Four Hour Work Week even though I like that book), he uses titles for his chapters like "How to Implement Rock-Solid Habits That Really Stick" and headings like "Anticipate obstacles", "Believing in yourself", "Having a preemptive plan", etc. This helps for speed reading (If 60 pages is too much for you).

It may seem like a pretty amateur book, but it really is a great book for implementing good habits and getting rid of bad habits. This book may be my favorite book because of the effectiveness of the information and his helpful style of writing.
