Hard Nox (Wild Scots, #1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 2,356 ratings

Her brother's best friend is a brawler. She's going to drive straight into his arms.

Isobel

Lennox is one hot Highlander.

Muscles bulging on thick arms. A smirk and a bossy swagger.

As teenagers, he crashed my car, stole my first kiss, then walked away with another woman.

I'll be damned if my brother's best friend is getting an easy ride back into my life.

Nox

Isobel is a menace. She races cars and has tattoos in places I can't even imagine. I shouldn’t want her. But I can't forget the one kiss we shared as teenagers. Fresh out of the military, I have one thing in my sights – her.

Isobel Fitzroy is my best friend's sister, and I'm going to tame her wild heart.

Review

Voted one of the Most Anticipated Romances of December 2019 on Goodreads.

A selection of
five-star reviews for Hard Nox (Wild Scots, #1) from Goodreads:

  • Another great read by Jolie Vines! Not only does she bring the Hot and Steamy scenes to life in her pages with the alpha men and their lass but it was also packed with so much action - Donna
  • Their journey made me laugh, want to cry, roll my eyes...just gave all the "feels". I didn't want this book to end, so I'm more than ready for book 2. I have a countdown going until release day. GREAT JOB JOLIE!!! - Shannon Smith
  • Lennox and Isobel are perfect together and steamy hot! - Jennifer Wertz
  • I love the character Isobel. She grew up with wealth and a title, but is very down to earth. She struggles with problems that are very relatable to me. She has a learning disability. I am on pins and needles waiting for the next book. It can not come out fast enough! - Lori
  • Who doesn't love a man with a big ... tank? Cue all the swoons for Lennox McRae! Like his father, he's a commanding presence who is easily knotted up by the woman who holds his heart. It's the sign of a brilliant author that this book has so much heart, heat, family history, and heartwarming emotional depth. And the grand gesture at the end was truly the icing on the cake. This is a fabulous addition to one of my all-time favorite series - Viper Spaulding

The Wild Scots series comes hot on the heels of the recently completed Marry the Scot series. Jump back to read where it all started with their parents' HEAs. Book one - Storm the Castle (a Marry the Scot novel).

Praise from Goodreads for Jolie Vines and the Marry the Scot series:
  • I loved this book! It had all that I would expect with hot Scots and rambling castles- Paula
  • Jolie Vines has fast become aone-click author for me! - J. Saman, Bestselling author
  • I'm impatiently waiting for the next book - I just know it'll be another sizzling story from Jolie Vines - Zoe Ashwood, author of the Shift series
  • (Hero) is an amazing work of art, highly recommended for anyone looking for a modern-day Highlander to swoon over - Viper Spaulding
  • I swear, every time I pick up a Jolie Vines book I think: this is him, my favorite hero, no one will be able to top him. And then I read the next book and the process begins again - Chikap09
  • If you haven't read the other books in the series Marry the Scot, you should really start with Storm the Castle, then move on to Love Most, Say Least before diving into Hero. I cannot wait to see what Ally and Wasp get up to in their stories! I've enjoyed the first three books immensely! - Pam Graber
  • Jolie Vines is an amazingly talented writer. I am so completely obsessed with this series and so madly in love with the characters. Each book gets better than the last and when you start off with a 5 star? There just aren't enough stars - Carmen Davis

Now this is a book to enjoy!

I want my own Nox! He was amazing all around. And so was she. The way he knew she was it for him and tried to convey that to her from the beginning with the "yours" and "mine" stuff had me swooning. Seriously, can I go to Scotland and get my own Nox? Because I will absolutely travel from the US to find a man like him!

Really, I loved all the characters. All of them were well written and drew me in. And the racing on her part and her support of him with his family and setting them straight was beautiful. And then to have him finding a place for her garage so she could do what she loved even though he had some big shoes to fill eventually.. swooning all around!

I even loved Sebastian and his friendship with Skye. Though you could tell there was something between them, you weren't 100% sure what until the ending.

I didn't understand what Sebs issue with Artair was when Seb was in the military though. I didn't quite follow that in this book. But he definitely didn't like Artair. But the look of Skye and Artair in this book was hot all on its own! Their story will be explosive as well no doubt!

Such a great read all around. I can absolutely picture the setting and the characters and everything. Such a book hangover after reading this one. I want more of them and all the Scots! 💙💙

The only thing I didn't like was the so called epilogue. It is NOT an epilogue. It's a preview for the next book. Totally now what an epilogue is supposed to be, but whatever. I'll forgive the author because I loved the story so much.

Definitely looking forward to the next book!

Oh. And for the record, I'm in the USA and loved the writing of the book too. Though at times I really had to think about what they were saying since the words aren't American English. Hehe. But I loved that aspect too since it really set and sold the story being in Scotland and all. 💙💙

I started reading this book back in September after BookTok had exploded over ‘Chad’ calling women out for reading smut books. Well I got bogged down with some other reads that had a deadline and just now got around to finishing this book.

My rating for this book is 4.5
The spice I would say is a 2-3.

This is a story that is not enemies to lovers really, more of the characters resisting what they think they are feeling and believing in their head. There is a hard headed moment when these characters are younger, and then the story jumps ahead 4 years, creating a playing field full of misinterpretations and miscommunications. By 1⁄3 of the way through the book, these characters were already so drawn together, but when they did come together it was spectacularly done! Nox didn’t know what he wanted to do when he finally had Isobel, he had thought of so much he wanted to do, then he got mad at her and they didn’t talk for angsty days and I wanted to cry!

So, I enjoyed it all around. And will be moving on to the next one!

Really enjoyed Lennox and Isobel's story. Two people who grew up together and didn't really like each other had a kiss when Isobel was 16, and Lennox knew how special that kiss was and wanted to get to know Isobel more. Both characters had their own plans for jobs and how they wanted their life's to go. So happy they got together. Looking forward to reading next book in this series.

I’ve read it before but after having read other parts of this series decided to come back and start again. Never left a review the first time, though.

    Highly recommend this book

Highly recommend this author ~ she draws you into the story and with how she has the major characters tell their own side, well you feel what they feel. I wish she’d have touched more on Isobel’s disabilities and explained a bi5 more but I loved the flawed character. Most are picture perfect, she was not which made you cheer for her even more.

Lennox was just what she needed to rein her in and focus on what was important.

Now... I’m on to the next book.

This is the first in this series. Nox and Isabel have had some issues in the past. His worries about her being his best friend's sister is just one of those things. But after four years later they are both back. He just out of the military and she is now making a name for her self in the racing and rebuilding of cars. What happens when they have to uncover the lies that have been keeping them apart?

I used to have an obsession with romance books based in Scotland. I loved reading the accent and hearing it in my head. It has been a long time since I read something like that and this book has brought back those memories. Gah, that accent, the ruggedness of imagining those men in my head, kilts! Love it! These two won me over. Their chemistry was off the charts. I love how Lennox made Isobel stronger. I love my Isobel calmed Lennox. I need more of these books, even if it's just to catch a glimpse of this couple in the background. I may even have to go back and read about the parents to get my accent quota filled. The only thing that stopped this book from getting 5 stars was the Warwick siblings, most especially Amber. I felt she was just stupid and could easily have been left out of the story. This is my first read by this author and I have a feeling I will be going back for more.

Reviewed in Germany on September 16, 2021
    Highly unconvincing.
Characters don't act their age but much older.
One side is all goodness while all the bad influences come from characters all belonging to the same family. Of course, people in the 'good' families are uber talented.
Wild here appears to mean 'rich kids who never were taught to curb their poor impulse control' while at the same time, there's a lot of droning on how this guy will lead the clan one day, making it sound like they are medieval royalty.
Oh, and how charming the male character thinks he can take an inexperienced female partner's consent to anal intercourse for granted. Seriously, urgh.
I thought initially the female lead would be interesting since the character is introduced as having a learning deficiency but all of those suuuuper people in those suuuuper nice families obviously couldn't be bothered to pay attention to this or try to understand (her 'lover' is really surprised by this - shows you how much attention he has been paying...) so it feels like the author is trying to whip up additional interest in her book by using this as a plot device, and that is NOT a good look on anyone.

This book leaves you thinking the author had this utterly formulaic plot all drawn up but could not decide if it was to be 'Sixth Bride of the Sheikh', 'Bride to the Mafia Boss', 'My Alphahole Boss', 'My Alphahole Rock Star' or something along those lines, couldn't make up her mind, and just drew a card in the end. The phrases used to make this sound Scottish sound soooo fake!
DNF at about a third in because gah, fake rich kids with fake problems, who needs them?
