    “I’m a Dom, Lawrence. You’re not. You have a desire for a Mistress. That doesn’t make me see you as less of a man. Not all male Dominants will feel that way, but every culture has it’s a$$holes. Don’t let that stop you from being who you want to be, or from being with who you want to be with.”

    I loved this story of a very confident Domme, Rosalinda or “Ros”, and a retired SEAL, Lawrence, who is exploring sexual submission to a woman for the first time.

    If you think a Femme Domme isn’t your thing, I recommend giving this story a go. There’s nothing beta about Lawrence, which makes his submission even more delicious and more emotional.

    “It was so natural to him, these things he’d never said to a woman. As if he’d been waiting forever to say them. To the right woman.”

    Joey always has such a way of breathing life into characters. Soon you’ll forget they are fictional and swear they are real, living breathing beings going through an extraordinary journey. In this book, Ros and Lawrence test each other’s courage, make mistakes, and are confronted with long-held life patterns that may or may not serve them anymore.

    The book kept me on my toes, too. Just when I thought a particular story line was about to wrap up, it went a level deeper. Just when I thought I knew what Lawrence was dealing with it, their relationship – and his reaction to it – went yet another level deeper. This is the masterful writing that Joey. W. Hill brings to all her books.

    The comradery between the females also was a very (VERY) refreshing addition. Modeled after her very popular Knights of the Boardroom (some of my favorite books – ever), the other “Mistresses of the Boardroom” are introduced in this book. What the author does, however, is make them integral to Lawrence and Ros’s story, which is yet another masterful part of her writing. Nothing is wasted, nothing is a throwaway. Everything makes sense and drives the main story forward. I can’t wait to read their stories next!

    At Her Command is one seriously HOT read. I'm talking sizzling and incendiary. I was completely consumed by this book. Putting it down was not an option. Strong characters within dynamic storylines are a given in Joey W.Hill book. She deftly plumbs the depths of soul deep emotions within her characters and writes with such finite details that you are always front and center in every scene.

    Lawrence Gatlin only knows one way to live his life: with honor, honesty and in service of others. As a SEAL he learned failure is not an option so he pursues that goal in all he does. He's always known though that there is something missing in him. Becoming Mistress Rosalinda Thomas personal protection is a turning point in his life and becoming her submissive finally gives voice to that missing piece. Ros sees and feels Lawrence's need to serve. As a demanding Mistress she penetrates all his training, his survival instincts and his steely control as she breaks him down then rebuilds him as only his Mistress can.

    I'm probably bias as this author is one of my top faves to read when a new release comes out. She explores bdsm and romance together in a story thats always guaranteed to pull you in. At her command is the story of a domme and the ex military hero who thinks he might be sexually submissive. Its also an older woman younger man romance that doesnt use the age gap to annoyingly drive home a contrived point about age. LOVE that.

    Lawrence is probably top 10 maybe even top 5 of my heroes from Hill. He reminds me strongly of Mac with his core of acceptance at who he is in the bedroom. And he was just plain nice. LOL. A decent guy. Alpha but no unnecessary posturing. Buuuut. This isnt a 5 for me I think for the same reasons with Mac. I had issues with Vi pushing so hard and not giving of herself equally. There are small moments of that with Ros toward Lawrence. (although maybe I gave Mac's book a 5* because I adore that book more now than originally and I freaking loved it then. LOL)

    Ros wanted to know all of Lawrence's business and personal details including about his ex girlfriend. Part of me understood her fear of not wanting to take on a relationship that might have baggage and drama but Lawrence made it very clear in behavior if not verbally that he wanted a relationship yet every time he asked a personal question or tried to get close Ros shut him down. So her mannerisms with this and not actually acknowledging that she was doing it bothered me quite a bit. I wish he had called her out on it so we could have had conversation about it. She kinda took the high road of "I dont do wrong and this is about you and all YOUR problems."

    I love the background plot and story of the stalker/gangster guy after the heroine. I do wish we had gotten more attacks and threats to heighten the suspense level and provide balance with the romance. These two really had minimum issues on the surface. Lawrence wasnt resistant to his awakening as a sub, he's genuinely nice and confident in who he is and Ros is successful and assured so there wasnt much conflict between them sexually or otherwise. Even his hard limits were glossed over and he agreed to trying them because he trusted Rosalinda's expertise.

    I will say my favorite part which you almost NEVER see is that Lawrence safeworded. So many bdsm novels have a newbie/virgin/traumatized heroine get into scenes with this magnificent, hardcore Dom who goes right in and work them over and not once, not one single time do they safeword. not even a yellow to get their bearings and question. Its not because of trust in those stories either because the heroines inevitably have a secret or fear they dont share with the hero that blows up later due to misunderstanding. Lawrence is in legit pain at one point and is service oriented so I really thought he was gonna ride it out like a fool and not say anything but he didnt.

    This was so refreshing and far more realistic to me then a naive young woman with submissive inclinations doing her first scene and taking 20 lashes from jump while plugged even though her ex was abusive and she's never known love :/ Thats a hella lot of love and trust for somebody you met two days ago.

    At Her Command is refreshing, pleasing to read and all around good story. We get to see Dale, Matt and my favorite limo driver Max :)))) (Can we get Randall's book?)Janet has a small cameo too. They really need a wedding so we can have a reunion and get caught up. LOL.

    I have loved all of Joey’s books and this book is no exception. I was hesitant about reading about a F/m relationship as I usually read the more common M/f stories, but all I can say is WOW! And when is the next book in the series coming out!!! The storyline is wonderfully written, so emotionally powerful as Joey W. Hill dives into the mental and emotional side between a Domme and a (new) male sub. Joey does a beautiful job of showing the strength and dominance a woman can have and balancing that with the protective, yet submissive needs of an Alpha man
