Hidden Waters (The Tattered & Torn Series Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 7,670 ratings

My family tried to break me. But, somehow, I made it out alive, even though the wounds from that survival are forever carved into my bones. Now, my only wish is for…normal. To know what it’s like to have friends, a job, a home.

The last thing I want is for my new roommate to see the scars I’m so desperate to keep hidden, especially not the ruggedly handsome man who steals my breath and sends my heart into overdrive.

But something tells me that Beckett has demons, too. I see it in the shadows haunting his gorgeous eyes and the way he looks at me with gentle understanding.

As our unlikely friendship becomes so much more, forces from my life slink out of the shadows. And we could both lose everything we’ve fought so hard for—down to our very last breaths…

Absolutely in love with this series
Book Three in the Tattered and Torn series was completely heartbreaking and amazing all at once. This is a story of love healing, finding yourself and moving on past your trauma. The prologue was completely heartbreaking and a great introduction to the story to come. I had been anxiously waiting for Addie’s story and this did not disappoint. I was lucky enough to get this ahead of time and dropped literally everything to read it because I knew it would be amazing. The ending had me stressed! No one does suspense quite like it. Addie has gotten out from under her abusive father's thumb. His extremist mentality when raising her has her lacking a lot of skills most adults her age have. She is determined to succeed and to learn everything she hasn’t. With her goal list in hand, she finally starts really living for herself. No matter what her father and the men behind him do to try to stop her. Bennett is home after working as a traveling doctor all over the world. After the events his sister went through, he decided enough is enough and finally comes home to help with his family. He is working through a lot of guilt and struggling with his past. In order to get out from under his overbearing mother Bennett takes a spare room at Addies house. She is staying at Hayes home and there is more than enough room. mother, Their friendship blossoms quickly and they both help each other with their struggles. They have both worked so hard to be where they are and when events come to threaten both of their success. Will they be able to survive it?

I am getting closer and closer to be entirely caught up on Catherine's backlist and I am entirely upset about this. For me, you can never got wrong with a Catherine Cowles small town romance, and this book is no exception. I was really looking forward to reading Addie's story after being introduced to her in the first book of this series and I love that she got her happy ending with Beckett.

Addie has a very complicated and troubled past and it hasn't been long since she finally broke away from that past. All she wants now is normal: friends, a job, a place to call home. It's harder than she thought it would be, but she knows she'll get there. The last thing she wanted or expected was getting a roommate. Letting someone in to see those scars is terrifying, but Beckett seems to have some scars of his own. The only trouble, while Addie may have broken away from her family, someone clearly doesn't agree and the life Beckett and Addie are building might be in more danger than they think.

I love that Beckett was so aware and understanding of what Addie needed without treating her like she was fragile and I love the friendship they developed first and foremost. I really enjoyed the protective nature Beckett had for Addie and I love that Addie understood where he was coming from while still standing up for her needs and wants. I loved the story and relationship developments and I think the mystery/suspense aspects were fantastic. And I love that there is always just the slightest hint as to what the next story will be about.

I can't wait to continue the series and I would recommend this one to anyone who enjoys the following.

    ✔️ Roommates/Forced Proximity
    ✔️ Scarred Hero and Heroine
    ✔️ Close Friends and Family
    ✔️ Doctor Hero

Gosh I can not say enough about this book. This book broke my heart. I loved Addie so much. That woman is strong and seeing her begin to heal and let people in just brought me so much joy while reading. This book was about growth, rising from the ashes of your past and finding out who you truly were meant to be.
Adaline “Addie” grew up in an terrible environment, where her father was the boss, and his wife and daughter were his property. Physical and mental abuse were an everyday occurrence. It took Addie until she was 24 years old before she had the courage to accept the help offered to her and she finally was able to break free. She still lives in Wolf Gap, and living here still puts her at risk of seeing her father or his friends whenever she is in town. The risk is worth the reward of finally being free and making her own life. A life where she can be happy, healthy, and not have to worry about when the next time some gets mad is going to result in harm to her. She lives in Hayes’s house (from book 1) since he lives with his fiancé Everly who is Addie’s cousin. So, when Everly asks her if she would mind letting Beckett Hayes’s brother move in for a few months she can’t say no, even if having a strange man in the house scares, especially since he is so good looking, kind, caring and is a doctor.
Beckett is a doctor who has been out of the country for years working for an organization that provides medical help to people in places that have no medical access. Beckett has never forgiven himself for leaving his family when they needed him the mos. He is riddled with nightmares consisting both of what his family went through years ago and from things he saw while working in other countries. He knew it was time to go home to Wolf Gap and make amends when something happened to Hadley. Hayes offered to let him stay with Addie in his house. The same Addie that Beckett can’t take his eyes off of every time he is around her, and who seems scared of him.
Beckett and Addie soon realize they had more in common than they originally thought. They both have emotional scars they were trying to overcome. Eventually they found peace, someone that understood, they found trust, and friendship that quickly grew to more They found trust. Beckett will do whatever it takes to keep Addie safe, happy, and healthy and no one will stop him from doing that.

Phew! I feel like this one was action intense. Beckett and Addie were sweet and so good for each other. The trauma and danger were intense. Catherine really weaves romantic suspense elements so well.

Addie recently escaped a life of abuse and is trying to find a new life. When she’s asked to temporarily share her house with her landlord’s brother, Beckett, she can’t say no. She desires to be normal, feel normal and feels like this is a step in the right direction. Dr. Beckett Easton is back in town for good. Feeling guilt for deserting his family after his sister’s traumatic childhood experience, he’s determined to make amends and stick around. When he meets Addie, he knows she’s special and is immediately drawn to her. They both have so much baggage, can they help each other heal or will danger steal their chance for a new life?

Both Addie and Beckett have intense trauma to deal with and I love how they are there for each other.

“You have to let those memories rise so you can truly grieve losing her…You get to decide the pace of it, though. When you’re ready, I’ll be here to sit with you in all the different colors that come up.”

I felt like their relationship moved a little too quickly (for my preference) but I really liked their honesty with each other. Beckett was beautifully careful with Addie while still believing in her and giving her freedom to learn who she was. This was a second chance for both of them to have a restart and it was beautiful. I feel like the villain in this book was one of the worst yet and Addie’s tenacity and ability to still hope after everything she’d been through was inspirational. Perhaps not my favorite couple of the series but still a great story and I’ll recommend Catherine Cowles forever.

This was hands down my favorite book by Catherine thus far. Although I say that about everything she writes. There was something special about this one though. I was captivated from the synopsis and hooked after the first page. Beckett is everything and more you look for in a romance hero. He's charming, funny, protective of his loved ones, and harbors demons from his past. Addie, sweet, sweet Addie has had such a rough start to life. I love how Catherine wrote her character. She's had so many battles and so much to overcome, but she's still a giver. She cares about everyone around her and would do anything to help anyone.

The chemistry between the two of them was off the charts! I had goosebumps reading some scenes because it felt like I was standing in the same room with them. The way Beckett would tend to Addie and treat her with kindness and compassion, but still recognized she was strong enough to hold her own. I was holding my breath, sitting on the edge of my seat for some of it. This was definitely a book I picked up and did not put down until I was finished. I wish there was so much more. this book could have been 900 pages and I probably still would want more of this couple. This was an absolute work of art and I feel so lucky to have found this author.

Reviewed in India on April 29, 2024
Hidden Waters is the third book in the Tattered and Torn series by Catherine Cowles. It's a story set in a small town. I found this book full of intense emotions, and I enjoyed it a lot!

Addie is Everly's cousin, who was the main character in the previous book, Tattered Stars. Addie grew up in a similar environment to Everly's, where their fathers were preppers. They believed in living off the grid, avoiding government involvement, and not seeking medical care. Addie managed to leave that lifestyle behind. Now, in this book, she's adjusting to a more "normal" life. She's working on getting her GED, learning to drive, finding a job, and becoming familiar with computers and technology. She's been staying with Everly when Everly suggests that her brother-in-law temporarily moves in with them while his house is being built.

Beckett is a doctor who returned to Wolf Gap after his sister Hadley was injured in the previous book, Falling Embers. He's been staying with his parents while waiting for his house to be built, but he's feeling restless there. His brother Hayes, who is the local sheriff and the hero of the first book, suggests that he stays with Addie for a while. I liked seeing how Addie and Beckett develop a friendship. They both have emotional baggage from their pasts, and it's touching to see them open up to each other about it. Beckett decides to set up a clinic near the people who live off the grid, and Addie helps him with that. I appreciated how Beckett boosts Addie's confidence and treats her kindly, despite her lack of knowledge about many things. He supports her and encourages her to grow. Similarly, Addie supports Beckett as he deals with his emotional traumas. Of course, there's a bit of suspense and drama, including a kidnapping, which adds to the excitement of the story. Overall, I found this book to be my favorite in the series so far.

Genuinely didn’t think anyone could beat Hadley and Calder, but Addie and Beckett have taken the cake! This series so far has just gotten better and better with every book! I feel like there was less plot twists in this one because Addie’s demons were showing themselves left right and centre. However you could feel the tension and suspense building with every page knowing that something was bound to happen. I adored every single second of this book!

The strength and bravery that Addie has is unmatched. This woman has been to hell and back, my heart broke hearing about everything she’d been through previously, but seeing how she’s come out of that and is building a life for herself, despite the monsters that were still lurking in the shadows, had my heart bursting!

Beckett Easton is my latest obsession. This man is completely swoon worthy to another degree. I adored how protective he was of Addie but then also allowed her to spread her wings and grow. He’s fighting his own demons and the way these two let each other in was beautiful. These were two people who were written in the stars, they needed each other to help them fully heel.

The friendship they built while they were just roommates was beautiful, all the tiny things they’d do for each other had me swooning!
I adore these two with my entire soul.

this was gut wrenching but honestly the pair of them were so good together.

wish we got more of beckett’s healing as well but broken heroines are just as good as broken hero’s.

less a star for the constant “he barked out a laugh”
