Wren Ryce writes (say THAT three times fast) short, sweet, steamy romance and fantasy. She loves imperfect, protective but gentle, hunky heroes that get the girl at the end of the book. Besides reading, she spends her time shopping for vintage/antique items and traveling, especially to places with mountains and waterfalls.

    *spoiler alert*

Jacob and Maggie's romance started off with distain and uncertainty as Jacob stumbled into her room one night after drinking and began touching her, not realizing it was real. The story begins fast which I very much liked and enjoyed. Jacob was a fun character to watch and get to know, his teasing and smart mouth ways with Maggie were so fun for me to read. After a few encounters in the room things began to shift between the two. For me this part was a bit fast as I would have liked maybe a few more chapters and if they wanted to make it a short book the author could have did little time jumps of a few weeks, just to make the relationship more real for the reader. After Jacob protects Maggie in a cave in and they share a kiss things become very intense, leading Maggie to see the darkness that Jacob has been hiding from his days in the service. This later sends Maggie to his room where things become more intimate but then ends in a disconnect and Maggie wanting to be done with Jacob all together. Jacob wanting to explain his actions does the only thing he can to get her to listen, he announces his love and intentions for Maggie at church infront of everyone. Here is where we jump a month to right after they are hitched. Now again for me I wanted something here, I would have loved to see them talk after the prosal and just talk over his plan to leave for a month, just something more. The ending was sweat and gave me just enough to make me, the reader, happy.

“His Teasing Hand: An Enemies to Lovers, Steamy Western Short Read Romance” by Wren Ryce, is only 46 pages, and can be read in less than an hour. Nevertheless, despite its brevity, this is not a light, fluffy read; rather, the story manages to take on serious subjects with a fair amount of poignancy. This is a historical romance with scenes of touching without permission.
In the small, one-saloon town of Freemont, A tipsy Jacob returns to his boardinghouse at 2 am(It is a historical romance and there are scenes that of touching without permission.). We learn he is working to build a wagon freight line and is plagued with flashbacks from the war. Due to a mix-up by a boardinghouse employee, Jacob enters the wrong room and has an explosive encounter with a young lady, Miss Maggie Paterson. Thus, Maggie’s has a terrible first impression of Jacob, and his teasing manner the next morning does nothing to improve her opinion of him. Maggie, who came from New York, is working as a teacher. But despite the fact that both Maggie and Jacob have other interested potential love interests, their mutual attraction cannot be ignored by either of them.
The story is well-written and well-paced. It is told in 3rd person POV that alternates between Jacob and Maggie. I recommend this short story for readers of spicy historical romance!

I want more Wren Ryce! This was, as promised, a short spicy time period read and I enjoyed her writing! I'm excited for the next book.

The start of this story was good. It was a cute, funny and a bit sexy misunderstanding. The author provides a few tantalizing descriptions to get the story moving but doesn’t overdo it early on. I like the two main characters, Jacob and Maggie. They have contrasting personalities, and Jacob is a bit of a jerk, which allows for mean and funny moments between the two of them. The storyline had that old time feel where a man chased after a woman who acted annoyed but secretly liked it. The build up is pretty good. Then the sex scene is very graphic and steamy. I don’t think this story qualifies as erotica, but you might call it erotic romance. Either way, the sex is good, and there is a very strong romantic component. I found the erotic components more compelling. That’s to say I was rooting more for them to have sex than fall in love. But I think this story will appeal to both lovers of romance and erotica and I recommend it to fans of either or both.
