By C. A. HOCKING
Australian Prime Minister Marian Hardwick has achieved everything she ever desired to become the most powerful woman in the country. She is admired by some, but seen as ruthless, calculating and manipulative by others.
Only two men really know her – her husband and her brother – but one loves her and the other hates her. When one threatens to destroy her by revealing a secret buried deep in her past, the other can save her, but first he must break her completely.
Marian’s life unravels as everything she ever believed in is exposed as a lie. If she is to survive, she must confront the greatest challenge of all – the truth about herself.
A gripping drama of betrayal, abandonment and redemption.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2015I have enjoyed this book from the beginning! Love the way Hocking spins many tales together in such a sophisticated manner. I love the transformation of the main character as she comes to terms with really seeing herself for the first time. Wonderful. Can't wait to read more from CA HOCKING
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2016This is the 3rd book I've read by C.A. Hocking. The author is very talented but of the 3 books I've read, this is my least favorite. Some how I couldn't really believe that all the things and changes happened in such a short length of time. The writing was good as always but the story just felt it was dragging a bit, if the book had been shortened some I think it would have been better. Don't get me wrong, I did like the book I had to read it to the end to find out what was going on but I expected more after reading the other 2 books first.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2014This fast moving novel weaves together numerous threads to establish the history and relationships of a dysfunctional family. In doing so it also traces the transition of a lonely, ruthless Prime Minister to a compassionate grandmother due to the humanising influence of her brother, a retired high court judge. Although this novel was published in February 2013, events discussed in the narrative are surprisingly relevant to Australian politics, where a female Prime Minister has been dismissed by her own party. A quite eerie presage. We have many threats of scandal, a political coup circumvented as such in the nick of time and an abandoned child appearing early in the story line. An incredible network of events is covered over many chapters. Although we expect the story to end well before the actual finish, it is a book that is hard to put down. A worth while romp.
