Hope & Chance: Three Pride and Prejudice Novellas Kindle Edition
Mr Darcy attends the January assembly, dances every dance, and makes himself agreeable to everyone in Meryton. Elizabeth Bennet cannot account for his sudden appearance or his change in attitude. Why must he insist on calling on Longbourn every morning? ’Tis a puzzlement, indeed.
Hope & Chance, A Pride and Prejudice / A Christmas Carol Crossover
What if Caroline Bingley had A Christmas Carol experience? This novella begins after the events of Pride and Prejudice. A short Caroline redemption story inspired by Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.
Pretensions
When Darcy hears that Elizabeth Bennet is to wed Mr Collins, he springs into action, refusing to allow her to throw herself away on an unworthy suitor. Will he be too late and lose her to another man?
These novellas are set in the Regency era and follow our favourite Pride and Prejudice characters on their journeys to finding love.

About the author

Cassandra B. Leigh began writing poems and stories for her own enjoyment, then discovered the multiple Jane Austen fan fiction sites and jumped into the fray to explore the 'what-ifs' of P&P. What if the half-hour in the Netherfield library resulted in outrageous gossip? What if Elizabeth and Darcy endeavored to be civil to each other during the Hunsford proposal? What happened to Darcy after the rejected proposal? Ms. Leigh posts under the name 'Astonishment' and is a devotee of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2023This collection of two entertaining short stories about our favorite couple, and one about an unexpected character. A most worthy read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2023This book presents 3 delightful P&P variations which are light, low-angst and pleasantly brief. They are a wonderful read to those who have limited and intermittent reading opportunities.
In Detestable Man and Pretensions, both Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet are watered-down version of themselves. Their misunderstandings are easily drawn out due to the openness and impulsive honesty of Fitzwilliam Darcy. To have one’s private troubles out in the open with many to witness is hardly a trait Mr. Darcy of Canon would countenance. More so, his impulsive actions in declaring himself to Elizabeth makes him more like a schoolboy in love and begging for her affection and hand in desperation. Once the truth is regarding Wickham and when Charles Bingley is returned to Jane Bennet courtesy of one repentant Mr. Darcy, Elizabeth is easily swayed into falling for the gentleman she once despised. Hence, there is little angst which is what many JAFF fans would likely prefer.
While A Caroline Carol focuses on Caroline Bingley and one cannot help but appreciate the way this author, or anyone for that matter, gave Caroline a chance to shine, to improve as a person, and eventually get a happy ending. After the Scrooge that is Caroline Bingley encountered Christmas Past, Present and Future, she completely changes her perspective in life as she realizes what truly matters. This story alone makes this book worthwhile the read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2022This is a great anytime read, but I highly recommend this as a Christmas read! Fun lighthearted twisting stories are sure to fill the reader’s with Hope at anytime of year.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 31, 2023The author gives us a short blurb on each “novella” at the beginning of this book. With the stories being so short there is not much more to add. (There are no page numbers in this Kindle edition, so I am using percentages.)
Detestable Man: 3% to 37% Darcy returns to Meryton for the January Assembly and is everything nice. Soon Elizabeth’s and the town’s opinions are changing but Elizabeth still questions his purpose.
A Christmas Carol Crossover: 37% to 59% Caroline Bingley has A Christmas Carol experience after her dead father appears to her and warns her of such. She, like Scrooge, learns much and it is not just as to her relationship with Elizabeth Bennet, who has won Darcy at this point in time.
Pretensions: 59% to the end Darcy is told by Caroline that she read in the newspaper that Mr. Collins is to wed Elizabeth Bennet…tomorrow. He rushes off to Meryton, offers his hand and an elopement to Scotland, immediately upon meeting her as she is about to enter church. Lo, and behold, it is not Elizabeth who is the bride. So now that he has offered marriage and Elizabeth has corrected his mistake, he must decide if he will return to London or stay and possibly win her hand.
These short stories were sweet but with no real angst for me.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2023A delightful little collection of stories inspired by author Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Cassandra B. Leigh. I enjoyed it very much.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2022This has 3 novellas that are short and entertaining. These are stories that I will re-read and enjoy again and again.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2022I really liked this Darcy, he realizes earlier his horrible behavior, changes and goes for the girl... much to her puzzlement. A very good and enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2022Thank you for once again sharing a pleasurable reading experience. While I am no longer a fan of plots based on Dickens’ work after seeing so many movie and book variations, it was interesting to see Caroline in the situation. You have so many different plots you’ve shared with us, I always anticipate your next story with ODC.
