- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2025What a great study! Hope - what we definitely need more of, right now and always. These often overlooked women of the Bible are studied: Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba. We always have our own struggles that often go overlooked as wives, mothers, daughters. This study is well-written and inspiring. If your hope increases, your faith increases, your good works increase, your sense of self and well-being increase, and you will feel better and be a benefit to all of those around you. Well done.

"The surety of the unseen" is a phrase we should all consider committing to memory for these turbulent times..
The author explores each life, providing motivations, insights, and study questions to explore.

Beautifully illustrating how God's love and faithfulness can transform our lives. This is a real companion if you are ready to start the journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Now is the time to embrace hope and see how it is going to change your life for good.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2024I truly enjoyed reading this book. So much powerful insightfulness packed into a quick read. I didn't read this as part of a bible study but definitely will recommend to my church for our next one. I have read the stories of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba many times before, but I never saw their stories through the lenses that the author has painted in this book. In fact, I always wondered why these particular women and their stories were called out in the bible. For the first time, I am seeing these strong, courageous women in a much different light.
The author does a great job of explaining the circumstances of each woman in their biblical time and the struggles they were dealing with. For instance, explaining the biblical law of levirate marriage. I never understood that when Judah sent Tamar back to her father's home, he never released her to remarry but instead, retained his right to find Tamar a husband. I appreciated the author explaining the customs as they were during that time which truly helped to grasp the risks the women were taking (for their own lives and in some cases, the lives of their family) in hopes for a better life.
This book includes recommendations for scripture readings to supplement the lessons, as well as the reflective questions the author gives the reader to contemplate about their own life. Not only did this book pique my interest to open my bible to read God's word but it also helped me to better understand four of the most important women in the lineage of Jesus. This book will definitely go back on my shelf of books I want to read again!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2024The book is very well written and organized. There are several things to do for each woman studied from the Bible to help the reader find their own hope and confidence in the Unseen. From the title I was expecting broader material, but the author takes a clear focus on 4 important women from the Bible. Looking at the author's profile on Amazon, I think this book is a good complement to her other books. The only thing I would ask for is some clue in the title or subtitle to indicate the book is about women in the Bible. Not that us guys can't learn a lot from that, but I would've had different expectations before picking this book to read. It's a great book and a good companion for studying these 4 women. Well done!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2024I really am enjoying this study of four women in the Bible and applying their teachings to my own life. Thorough and engaging.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2024Sarah K. Howley gives us a new look at four of the early women of the Bible, a look not investigated before.
These four women, Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba, are wonderful examples of courage, moral strength, and fortitude when being a woman was dangerous, held limited opportunities for the female class, and often times hopelessness.
Sarah explores these women through the lens of “hope,” and how their hope motivated, supported, and encouraged them to live in a difficult time and to often prosper as well as suffer lack in their experiences.
As a Bible student, the author is grateful to this writer for her fortitude in writing about these early examples of how hope sustained these women in trying times and how they took action in seeking to realize the fruits of their hope without waiting for a man to initiate the action.
To sum up in the writer’s words, “Tamar hoped for restoration in family, Rahab hoped to save her family, Ruth hoped to serve God and Naomi, and Bathsheba hoped to see her son safely on the throne, and all of them left a “legacy of the strength of hope in the life of those who believe.”
These early exponents of courage and fortitude stand today as great examples for all, not just women, of the importance of hope and trust in God who is always sustaining each mortal man and woman in their journey back to their spiritual consciousness which is intact and waiting for our awakening to spiritual glory. This book is a helpful impetus in the journey.
