If you’ve read this author before, I’ll say: As Lee Winter as it gets. If you haven’t read any other Lee Winter books, careful to start with this one, as it’ll set a very high bar. Loved every word.

If I had to choose just one outstanding thing about this book, just one, I’d pick the dialogue. My, what a tour de force that is, from beginning to end. And for all characters, too, not just the two main powerhouses that are Kai and Amelia. But the dialogue between those two ladies? Oh my. But there’s also Monique and her read on Amelia, and Amelia’s dealings with her family, and Milly giving Kai the what for. And and and. This is a dialogue driven book, powerfully so. Characters speak for themselves, they craft the story with their voices.

After reading the whole scene in “Prohibition Bar”, I dropped the book for over 24 hours, because I couldn’t bear to keep on reading after such perfection. Somewhere at the back of my mind, I had this nagging feeling that I was only at chapter 6, so I should somehow plow ahead. I eventually did.

Then there we have an outstanding cast and a marvelous plot. Each and every character is so well crafted. I loved that the two protagonists are these larger than life ladies who, at the end of the day, are just as humanly flawed as the rest of us, they just hide it better, because they are smarter. Well, Amelia hides it better, Kai is pretty forthcoming with her “superpowers”. I did love the unashamed way Kai portrayed herself, flaws and all, and the fact that she self-examined her ways. At any rate, these ladies are smarter and reason smarter than any average Jane. All characters do share this trait, they are intelligent, and these goes for the foul players, too. These are not otherworldly beautiful people here, these are smart and intelligent people –all of them (except the ones that are directly called out as dumb. HAHA), and that makes them all exceedingly appealing for me.

The plot? Hooked me from chapter one, and it kept twisting and turning till the very end. And related to the plot, I’d high five the pace. Never lets up, it’s consistently tense. Classic all-nighter that’ll rob you of your beauty sleep.

Grrr.. why did it end? When you don't want the book to end because you are not ready to leave those characters just yet, you know its something special.
Not only did I not want the book to end, but I deliberately read the book slow, paused in different chapters and let my heart and brain just absorb the brilliant writing and humor. I have never done that before... never. I must have laughed out loud in many places, chuckled throughout and had a stupid smile the entire second half of the book.

The storyline - two strong women, vying for the same prize - the base story has been done before but the handling was exceptional...and and and there are some twists and turns. Having read all her books, one would expect I would brace myself for twists and turn.. but nah.. a rookie mistake. I do not want to rob the readers by giving any spoilers.. lets just say I envy the first time readers. Grr!! Fun Fun Fun times ahead for you :)

The characters - As always, you can't expect anything less from Ms. Winter. She is exceptional in writing characters as if you know them. And not just the two protagonists, but all the supporting characters, no matter the length of their appearance in the book. That's a great skill not many writers have. And I truly appreciate that in her books.

The writing - OMG her writing.. is class apart. For me, this is the star of the book. Exceptionally written, engaging and very well edited (can't stress more on this). The dialogues were witty and had me in splits many times. But then again, you don't expect any less from her books. She has set the bar really really high as a fictional writer... and not just in this sub-genre.

PICK this book already... it's amazing and you will enjoy it thoroughly.

I like all her books, even my least fav by her is far better than better books by other authors (no offense). But my top picks are Requiem (duh!) and Breaking Character.. and now this one is right up with them.
Can't wait to pick it up again and for the audio book.

Thank you for this book, Ms. Winter. Please write the next one soon.

There was only 1 "Queen" - Amelia. Her adversary turned ardent lover was more Princess. "Immaturish" yet a fierce competitor and advocate for the unjust. Both "Queens" were very successful and top in their realm but were driven by anger and pain. A universal motivator. What I liked about the story was that it wasn't a happily ever after complete with ribbons and bows. It left room for Hope.
    Happy Reading

    Great book by Lee Winter

Amelia is a a Duxton who has had the best schooling, tops in her field brillantly but with prescion coolness running the hotels in Europe. Her family does not appreciate her talent nor how she loves. She always gave her best for a family who just couldn't see her. Kia is the CLOSER, if a deal can be made she is on top of it. She has had a few hard knocks provided by a Duxton as she was trying to champion the right of hotel staff. She was crushed but worked her way. back to be the best . These two could fuse metal when they are in the room it is filled sexual tension. They don't really know each other and what they do know is wrong.
The dialogue is so hot, smart and just great fun. The characters make a page come to life. I loved them both and it was a page turner to see what would happen next. Their hot a brilliant assistants Quinn and Milly were such a great side story and great sidekicks. The loyalty these woman had added so much strength and fun. The Vegas experience, the many close but not yet twists and OMGosh what is next made it a book I could not put down. All this girl power and men you just could not count on for anything but trouble is the brilliant story only Lee Winter can deliver. Nedal was the true loyal man that brought class in the best way. There are so many secrets, twists and just great Vegas special moments. I highly recommend this book and just love the fire and ice hotel Queens.

I had seen a lot of hype about this book, and came to it with high expectations (mixed with a healthy dose of doubt it could be as good as they say) but I am now a believer! This book was fun, and clever, and sexy. When the characters finally come together, it’s believable and touching and... “steamy”. Those who have read the book will understand that last comment 😉

Kai e Amélia. Fogo e gelo.

Generally, you can't go wrong with any Lee Winter book, they are all amazing and perfectly written.
In this book Lee takes the reader to Las Vegas and girl, do I have a soft spot for the shiny, superficial city, that promises you a good time when you spend a lot of money. Having not only an ice queen but also a fire queen in the book, set in Sin City I was in awe. Kai and Lia have sparks flying whenever they are close to each other and gosh when they work these sparks it can only get good.
Also their seconds in command are a really great match and a part of me hopes for a sequel, starring Quinn and Milly.

Entertaining book with a great love story. Amelia, part of a hotel chain dynasty family, goes to Las Vegas to shore up the acquisition of a famous hotel. Kai, a wheeler and dealer from a rival company, is also there to close the deal. They meet at the bar without knowing who the other is, and the story goes from there. Not a new plot, but Ms. Winter brings a fresh and exciting slant to the enemies-to-lovers storyline. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it as a great read.

Reviewed in Italy on January 27, 2021

What if Romeo and Juliet meets the Comedy of Errors? You have a hot steamy clash between Ice and Fire, hate/love at first sight.

The dialogues between the main characters are so well written that it's a feast for the eyes to read them. Impossible not to giggle.

The reason doesn't want to listen what the heart wants to say and viceversa, love or hate, which one will win?

In chapter 16, when Kai knocks at Amelia's door:

    Amelia: "Not today, Satan."
    Kai growls: "Let me in."

Amelia and Kai go through a self discovery journey and a discovery of the other through a series of funny, charming head-to-head clashes, where they both try to disguise who they really are, until all the cards are placed on the table.

Strong and indipendent women, supported by sweet and smart side characters, who decide all together to fight the system of nowadays hypocrisy ruled by a corrupted, homophobic, racist and chauvinistic male centric society.

I'll say cheers to that with a perfectly made "Negroni".
