I Thought of You Kindle Edition
I wanted to conquer the world.
She wanted to gaze at the stars.
It’s been twelve years since I last saw Scottie Rucker. A grim prognosis has upended my life, and no amount of my hard-earned money can fix it. So, after leaving a note on the nightstand, I search for my first love—I search for life.
When I find her in Austin, working at a quaint general store and living in an RV behind it, those twelve years vanish. She’s exactly how I remember her.
Scottie thinks our reunion is a small-world coincidence, and I’m not ready to tell her the truth. After we rekindle our friendship, she convinces me to work part-time at the store while she pursues her budding relationship with Koen, a welder and the grandson of a customer.
Scottie’s ability to live in the moment is exactly what I need. But how do I convince her new boyfriend that I’m not his competition? And what happens if my heart changes its mind?

- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2025I read a lot of romance novels. After a while, there is a a sameness a predictability to the storylines. This was a refreshing deeply emotional, and deeply satisfying.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2025This was a great story. The beginning to the end was so unexpected. To see your first love just before you meet your true love. To know your heart is breaking and also rejoicing at the same time. So many emotions what a journey. Wonderful book made me cry and laugh.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2024Sometimes books find you at exactly the right time, and hit in exactly the right way.
I Thought of You by Jewel E. Ann is that book.
I foolishly thought that in my fifth decade of life (ouch, that hurt to write) that love and life would get easier, that the lessons might be of a gentler variety. That hasn’t been true, yet I Thought of You was a particular salve I didn’t even know my mind needed. If I was a Jewel E. Ann supporter before, I’m a fan now!
The dialogue that the author writes between Scottie, Price, and Koen, (and for that matter between all her characters) is divinely cathartic—it’s genuine, heartbreaking, sexy, and solemn. I don’t think anyone can do dialogue and character development as well as Jewel E. Ann. There’s not one character that I’ve read that’s left flat and unflinching. The author’s strength in her writing is creating characters that sound like all the voices in one’s head vying for a spot in one’s heart. Ann painstakingly weaves the lives of these three together in a clever way that surprised me, especially in the relationship between Price and Scottie. I wanted to root for their future together, but more, I wanted to root for the life that these characters needed. Their choices and voices remained authentic with every chapter.
The love scenes, like all of Jewel E. Ann’s love scenes, are not especially graphic, but the sexual tension and banter makes them very satisfying. And I usually don’t cry when I read, but I boo-hooed with the best at this ending. It gave me all the feels and the line that the author wove into the dialogue again and again—nothing is easier than not existing—was haunting, proving that the author has the ability to reach readers (at least this reader) on a much deeper level than simple extracurricular page-flipping.
This was a beautifully crafted and well written story that will stick with me for a long time!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2024This. Book.
I am not sure which words to use to adequately describe the experience that is I Thought of You. I knew from the first words that it would be an emotional read. I soon realized that "emotional read" is truly an understatement. Jewel E. Ann absolutely gutted me with this gorgeous and painful story about love and survival. In fact, I can not write this review without stopping to wipe away the tears that are still leaking from my eyes.
I am not going to sugar-coat this by saying I found this book to be an easy, quick read. I slowly read through the first 49% for days because I didn't know if I could handle know how this story ended. But, once I hit that 50% mark, I couldn't move or put the book down because I had to know exactly how it ended.
So, now I sit trying to come to terms with how something as simple as water flowing from my eyes can express so many emotions. There is ultimately joy, which overshadows the hurt and pain that comes as part of what must be endured when such a real and intense subject matter is at the heart of a story. Although, I must admit there was much laughter and smiling along the journey. I must confess I was not ready for everything this author so exquisitely and expertly shared. I can honestly say, though, I am humbled and grateful for it all.
This novel is simply about Love, in every single form, you can imagine. It is a story about how this crazy emotion demands we make peace with our world and those we love. It is a story of how we must surrender to love in order for us to experience it completely.
I can honestly say that I Thought of You has earned a spot on my All-Time-Favorites Shelf. Jewel E. Ann, with her non-holds-barred, emotive writing style, has earned her spot on my automatic 1-click author list. This is a book that quite simply must be read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2024I have read or listened to all of Jewel E Ann’s books. I definitely have my favorites but without a doubt the stories in all of them are so good, definitely thought provoking and always tugging on an emotional string. This book, omg this book just about did me in. I can’t remember the last time I ugly cried as much as I did. JEA’s writing is realistic, fresh, funny but so much more. Really a gift for all of us as readers/listeners. I loved every chapter, line, minute of this story even the ones most soul crushing. I cannot recommend this book enough (except you most certainly will need a box of tissues to get thru) but don’t let that be a deterrent because the story continues and our hearts are held in reverent hands!
Narration made this story come alive. Avie Paige was amazing as Scottie and Jay Myers was truly spectacular as both Price and Koen. Both narrators provided all their characters with unique voices and gave so much to the emotional ranges expressed in the book. Bravo for making a spectacular book even more compelling.

Everyone should have a person like Scottie to live a simple & in the moment life, who will keep us grounded. Price who shows us what determination means and how to reach your goals no matter how impossible it is & Everyone deserves an understanding husband like Koen.
So many feelings in this book and every single one will be close to your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pinball
This story played pinball with my heart. It made me think, feel, hurt, and ultimately trust. I don’t want to say any more. It’s a journey. And it’s one better taken without knowing what’s coming. Just as in life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A whole lot of everything
What a heartbreaking, tear inducing drama!!!
It hurt to read thus story, yet I was moved beyond comprehension. Jewel E Ann always writes stories that are bravely thought provoking. Stories where the characters are so different to any others ever read about. Their beliefs and morals so complex, yet so enviable. The world is seen through different eyes when I was getting to know Scottie, Price and Koen. I adored everything about Scottie. She was the total opposite of the usual character, and the honest and all embracing way she journeyed through life was so simplistic in its honesty and beauty. Every day and experience was looked on as a way to learn and grow. Such positive energy, it made it impossible to put this story down. It lade me think about life and the various other ways you can look at it and approach out of the ordinary situations.
This story will wreck you. But in such a completely intoxicating way. It will profoundly affect you and have you experiencing every emotion at a significantly higher level. The content will spellbind you beyond words. It will change your reading experience for the better. I Thought of You is a powerful story that will embed itself in your eternal memories. It's a story you will never forget and will leave you breathless and desperate for another unique and bittersweet tale of friendship and love, endurance, tragedy, forgiveness, and everything in between. This story is literally everything. All of it. The whole lot of everything. 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars I’m not crying, you’re crying 😭
My heart desperately wants to be happy right now but I’m trying to figure out how much more tears 3 pieces of tissues can hold.
To say this story hit me something fierce is an understatement… this story was a thought-provoking and life-changing experience and if ever there was an author who knew the way to the depths of my soul it would be Jewel E Ann— her words and stories just hit different to all else.
I Thought of You is a mixed bag of emotions in only the way that JEA can deliver. I laughed out loud, rolled my eyes, smiled until my face hurt, and balled my eyes out until I ran out of tissues (cue the impending sinus headache). My heart hurts but it’s a good kind of hurt… ask me what my favourite JEA book is, I don’t have an answer anymore because at this rate I’m past having a top-five favourite!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time
To be honest I am barely able to find the right words for this book without spoiler… the topic is heavy and the story is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I could hardly put the book down…. I fell in love with Price even though I had a hard time understanding him sometimes. This book for sure gives you something to think about. It’s my first book by this author but I don’t think it’s the last…..
