Antoinette

Axel Fontaine has a giant... At least that's what everyone says. Unfortunately, it's true. All. Of. It. He's dangerous, scary, and addictive. Without a doubt, the last person I should fall for is the VP of the Disciples MC. I'm out of my league. He's a six-foot-four, blue-eyed biker god. I'm an ex-ballerina turned stripper who should run away. But how do you escape the one man who ignites your body and consumes your very soul? Axel doesn't do relationships. But I'm betting I can change his mind.

Axel

I don't do relationships, I don't do drama, and I definitely don't do love. I'm not Prince Charming. I'm the VP of the Disciples, and the club is my family. The last thing I need is a violet-eyed enchantress who smells like candy and has some sort of voodoo chemistry that's messing with my mind. She needs to go. She's a distraction...a weakness I can't have. Men like me fall in lust, not love. So why is she still here?

Axel Fontaine. VP of the Disciples is not the settling type so despite witnessing the true kind of love that each of his brothers have found and believing that it truly is real he refuses to acknowledge that it could ever be part of his future. That is until a blonde haired violet eyed ethereal beauty dances into his life (literally) and he finds himself immediately drawn to her and borderline obsessed as we’ve come to know about the Disciples boys when they meet their one. Antoinette is just trying to survive after life dealt her a pretty crappy hand but she’s a fighter and will do whatever it takes to survive. Even audition at a strip club despite her ballerina background and talent. The minute she walks out on the stage she locks eyes with HIM. The most beautiful and striking man she’s ever seen. There’s an electricity in the air around these two that crackles in the air. You just have to grab the pages of this book and wait not so patiently in my case for the chemistry between them to explode. When it does WOW just WOW. But of course, Axel refuses to believe he could love someone even the violet eyed girl who consumes his every waking thought. When danger comes to the Disciples and Antoinette is caught in the crossfire Axel must make a decision to either keep her or let her go forever. . Axel oh how I wanted to strangle him at times but seeing how fiercely he can love if he only allows himself is truly beautiful to see. Antoinette has had so little love in her life that what she feels for Axel overwhelms her but doesn’t scare her making her determined to have him recognize that she’s not going anywhere and neither is he. .

I do NOT consider this to be a STAND-ALONE read. It is part of a series that contains multiple reoccurring characters, details that cannot be adequately recapped within the scope of another story that contributes to the story universe / world building, overlapping / concurrent timelines and overarching themes.

** There are quite a few scenes that could be a trigger for sensitive readers. Examples from this story and the series are listed below **

In this story, we learn more about the elusive and angry VP of the Disciples, Axel, and meet the woman that proves to him love does exist, Antoinette. This is definitely my favorite of the series by far, but I almost gave it a lower rating as I think more information about Axel’s background and attitude issues is needed. For instance, just saying Axel will be Axel doesn’t help the reader … does he not believe in love because he was burned in the past? It mentions that he was, but no details are provided.

Otherwise the scenes between Antoinette and Axel are caliente. The plot is solid and wraps up some storylines that have been open since the first story. The pace is good and there isn’t a lot of the repetitive doubts and “I’m not worthy”, “too broken” comments that plagued the previous story.

Antoinette is in dire straights and on the verge of becoming homeless when she finds out one of her roommates stole the last two months of rent and disappeared. Now another month is due. What is she going to do? She has been in tight spots before, especially after her life changed suddenly at 15, but why can’t things just be fine for once?

She has a job as a waitress, but Antoinette doesn’t make near enough to cover all of her expenses, much less pay 3 months of rent! Then at one of her free dance classes, Antoinette sees a flyer for exotic dancers. Can she actually do that? Yes, she can if that is what she needs to do to eat.

The flyer says she needs to come with a routine. None of her previous routines as a ballerina will work, but she knows how to dance. The music comes alive inside her when she moves, but Antoinette is not sure what she should do, so she checks online and decides to do a version of the dance from the movie Flashdance. The next night, she goes to the audition and finds herself the last to take the stage.

Axel is stuck running the clubs he co-owns with Edge and their manager by himself when Edge takes his new bride on a honeymoon and their manager has knee surgery. That is how he finds himself watching auditions with Crystal instead of just about anything else. There are so many things he needs to do, especially since someone seems to be targeting them with random acts such as breaking into warehouses, messing with security systems, trying to steal shipments, etc.

So the dancers are fine, but one kind of bleeds into the next. Then the song from a 1980s movie starts and the woman starts to move. Axel is immediately entranced and feels possessive of her. Before he realizes it, he even warned another brother away from her. WTF?! This isn’t happening. He isn’t claiming anyone. She must go!

Antoinette tries to convince him to hire her, even going so far as to doing a private dance for him in his office. Based upon his physical reaction to her, Axel knows to stay away, but he tells Antoinette to talk to Crystal, who had already told her yes before she went in to see Axel. So great news, Antoinette was on the schedule to start the next night, but does decide to change her stage name.

The next night, Axel is managing the club and his MC brothers are going to be there for the evening. He checks with Crystal to make sure she didn’t hire Cookie (Antoinette’s original stage name) and feels relieved … until their Russian partners make an unexpected visit and a new dancer is introduced. MINE! He storms the stage and throws her over his shoulder …

⛔️ The series contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including: adult language; derogatory terms; mental health challenges; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, spanking for pleasure and punishment, restraints, “bottom” play, breath play, sensory deprivation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, betrayal, coercion, blackmail, threats, subterfuge, money laundering, gun running, cheating, prostitution, human trafficking, mafia / cartels, arson, drug use / addiction, drug manufacturing, drug distribution, etc.

** Caution: Contains scenes with reference to, or detailed graphic violence against females that fit into the storyline, but may be a trigger for some **

There are very few grammatical issues primarily comprised of incorrect word choice and tense, punctuation errors, missed words and extra inserted words. I am mentioning these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.

Oh hell yes. Ignite (The Disciples #4) is Cassandra Robbins at her best. Axel and Antoinette are just as hot as Blade and Eve from book one. This is definitely my second favorite in the series and I know I’ll be re-reading it. After Lethal (The Disciples #1), I couldn’t have been more excited to read everything Robbins. That book was the tits (as in, everything I want in a book). But, I gotta admit, I’m not really into second chance romances, so Atone and Repent just didn’t give me the same uber satisfaction I got from Lethal, and I was left feeling like they were good reads but not the magic of their predecessor. Ignite was exactly what I wanted out of the Disciples series.

When we meet Axel, he is rude, dangerous, and cocky as the VP of the club. Totally anti-love and a basic motorcycle man ho. He’s got a certain presence throughout the series that makes you like him despite what an ass he can be. When we meet him in Ignite, he’s moonlighting as manager of the Pussycat strip club and he’s none to happy about it. Enter Antoinette as one of the newest tryouts. When he sees “Cookie” perform, it’s instalust at it’s finest.

Antoinette is a ballet dancer in dire straits. She’s decided to try stripping to get the money to survive another day. For some reason, I love heroines who have tragic pasts and keep on trucking despite their desperate circumstances. Antoinette is also a virgin who’s not good with people. She’s a unique character who has some grit mixed in her sophistication and innocence. She’s not having a moral crisis about stripping. She just wants to survive and she’s determined to make that money. Just like Axel, I fell for her right away.

Ignite is fast paced and full of action. It takes place in the present (yay- I hate flashbacks) and it’s written in dual POV. Sometimes when I read MC books I skim through the club drama to get to the good stuff, but I didn’t do that here. All of the action has a purpose, and the purpose isn’t to demonstrate that we are dealing with badass MCs.

I loved the way Axel comes to terms with *gasp* falling for a girl, but it felt like an authentic process. I loved that Axel didn’t have a terrible, horrible back story and pretty much admitted he was a serial dick because that’s who he always wanted to be. Just like Blade in Lethal, even when Axel was intentionally keeping Antoinette guessing, his admiration for her always shined through.

Antoinette was a great heroine. The girl had been through a lot, she had a lot to lose, and still she was brave when making herself vulnerable to Axel. I’m a big fan of a straight shooting heroine and I loved her authenticity. She’s scared and she has every right to be. I mean, Axel is a jerk. But she’s honest about her feelings and I loved that.

Finally, this book is HOT. Axel and Antoinette have great chemistry and the sex is steamy, risqué, and plentiful. Robbins knows how to write a good sex scene, and she does this in spades throughout Ignite. Can I get an amen?

I really enjoyed this dark and gritty MC romance. These guys are no wannabee's but real 1%r's. They may be alphaholes but have broken pasts but it just takes the right strong and sassy woman to make them whole.

Typical biker, smoking, drinking and sex. Hit it and quit it. Enter Candy, young but doing what is needed to survive. Love the baseball bat scene. Axle to the rescue. The back and forth love hate morphs and you see the relationship grow and good surprises on the horizon. HEA not necessary to read in order with the series but it helps.
