In Picardy's Fields: Prequel to The Diamond Courier (A Resistance Girl Novel Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 1,743 ratings

In Picardy’s Fields: the WW1 historical fiction romance that introduces the heroines destined to shine in WW2.

France, 1918

Step back to WWI’s turbulent battlegrounds where two extraordinary women rise to the occasion.

Agnès de Saint-Aubin, a Parisian baroness turned trailblazing battlefield surgeon, teams up with American doctor Alan Bell. Amidst the chaos of German control at Château de Dragoncourt war hospital in Picardy, Agnès hides a secret that endangers her loved ones.

Countess Madeleine de Dragoncourt ditches her aristocratic life to launch a perilous mission to rescue her family’s château from enemy captivity. Much to the dislike and admiration of British Major Gerald Hamilton.

But this is just the beginning. 'In Picardy's Fields' sets the stage for 'The Resistance Girl Series.' Their daughters, born of courage and sacrifice, take center stage in WWII Europe. From France to Norway, Holland to Britain, these women rewrite history through their valor.

Meticulously researched and deeply embedded in historical facts, The Resistance Girl Series seamlessly weaves together fiction with historical facts.

While the series is interconnected, each book can be read as a standalone, offering a unique perspective on the incredible feats of these resilient women.

Delve into the world of love, courage, and sacrifice now, and continue the journey that spans generations.

A captivating tale of a dangerous time

A captivating tale of a dangerous time
You will LOVE this book!I was immediately caught up in the tension and danger of author Hannah Byron's masterful new work, In Picardy's Fields, the first in a series of Resistance Girl novels.Agnes, a young surgeon in 1917 on the front lines in France, struggles with her role and walks a tightrope of feelings for her married mentor as she fights to save lives. What was surprising to me, was how captivating it was to revisit a time, vividly depicted through Byron's descriptions, when the world seemed to be falling apart...Courage and love were the answer then, as they are now. Kudos to Byron on this riveting story!

Enjoyed the story immensely! Very descriptive writing. The horrors of a war are made real and frightening. And the courage it took to live in such a time.

This is the second book that I have read by this author. I enjoyed the story as well as the characters. I read a lot of books that place during WWII but this one is during WWI. I would recommend this book and this author.

This is my first book by this author. The writing style is easy and flows but the plot left me on the fence with whether this was a good book or not. The book held my interest but did get bogged down in parts. I would have liked more "spy" plot and less descriptive phrases about the characters and or places. Having said that there were parts that I could not put down. Because of that I will give the next book in the series a try and see if it is better than this one.

This book did not match the caliber of for example The Paris Secret by Lester or The Room on Rue Amelie by Harmel or A Fire Sparkling by MacLean all of which I suggest you give them a try if you like reading about the Resistance of WWII.

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book. The passions of the writer Mrs. Hannah Byron was felt throughout the book. Her knowledge of the period was impeccable. It felt like I was taken away into the story. I am a lover of historical fiction but also love a strong female lead. This story has 2 strong female leads.
A Baroness whose dream is to be on the frontline of war as a doctor and a young lady who has broken out of boarding school to join her siblings at Dragoncourt a family home. Her home doesn’t look the same. It has been turned into a hospital . The bravery of both young ladies in wartime is a tribute to all women of war who worked in all capacities. Their bravery will not be forgotten.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read many World War I novels, but this one satisfied my curiosity about the work of doctors and nurses during the war. I realize that the novel may not be exact but I was able to dwell in the lives of these people for the whole book.
It was well written and immersed me immediately into the French country and city life during the war.

I've always liked history, and even though this isn't a true story, it certainly reads like it could be one and I appreciate how much effort the author must of put in for it to read as such
