- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseKyler and Danielle’s story is absolutely heartbreaking. I mean grab a bottle of wine and tissues heartbreaking. Danielle’s story of overcoming her grief is absolutely amazing to read. I loved Stefanie’s debut novel, even though at times I wanted to scream at her in frustration....how could she put Dani through all that pain. Dani has such a hard time dealing with Emmett’s death that she does the one thing no sees coming, she leaves. In her desperation to escape the pain she leaves everything behind, her family, her best friend, the memories, and Emmett. Dani stays gone for years, then suddenly out of the blue she calls her brother. She’s ready to come home, what she isn’t ready for is all the changes that have happened while she was gone. The changes terrify her but none more than her brother’s new best friend, Kyler. Kyler makes her feels things that she thought were buried right beside Emmett. It scares her to no end. Over time she begins to heal but is constantly questioning if this is real, she can’t love someone else ever again. Emmett was her world and then he was ripped away from her, how can she put herself through that again?
My favorite part of this book is a conversation that happens between Hailey (Emmett’s Sister, Her Best Friend) and it sums up Dani perfectly. “To make a decision of living your life. You only get one, and how amazing is it that in that one life you get two great men who love you when most people don’t even get one.”
This book is worth the read...loved it and can’t wait for her next release.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat do you do when you lose the love of your life at the age of eighteen? How do you go on?
Danielle and Emmet had their whole life ahead of them . They were young, madly in love and had their happily ever after planned out.
Sadly life had other plans. When Emmet is suddenly taken away from her Dani has to learn to live without her other half and find the strength to do so.
This is a story about tragic loss, learning to live with a new normal and finding yourself along the way. She needs to deal with the survivors guilt she feels and realize that she does deserve love and her own happily ever after.
Get the with a nd tissues ready. The author rips your heart apart but puts it back together.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLet me preface this by saying that I'm not a crier when I read. I'm just not. So when I tell you that you're going to need a box of tissues when you read this book, believe me. And maybe have a spare box.
I seriously have no words to describe this book. I fell in love with Dani and Emmett immediately, and even reading about how happy and in love they were broke my heart, because I knew what was coming. And when it came, so did the floodgate of tears as I grieved with Dani and felt her heartbreak. And then, just as I wanted to throw the book out the window, Kyler appeared. I loved how he slowly helped Dani pick up the pieces of her broken heart. How he held her when she cried and gave her space when she needed it. How he was there for her as a friend, even though he desperately wanted more. How he slowly coaxed her back out of her shell and got her doing things she loved again. And, mini spoiler, how he gave her not one, but two chances to stop him before kissing her the first time. He was seriously the sweetest. This book made me ugly cry, happy cry, smile, laugh, dance, and sing. It ripped my heart into a million pieces and then put it back together again. I seriously can't say enough good things about it. If I could give it more than five stars, I would. Well done, Stefanie! This was an amazing debut, and I can't wait to see what comes next.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Me giving this book ALLLLLLLLLL THE STARS!)
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt has been a while since I ugly cried so hard and full on sobbed that I had to stop crying before I could keep reading just to start all over again.
This book started off strong and had me falling in love with the characters. I loved this family and the friendships. The love they have for each other was so sweet.
I was heartbroken right along with them. The emotions were so real and devastating.
Danielle had every ounce of my heart. I loved her so much and her character growth. I can’t imagine what she went through.
Kyler was the perfect man, he was patient, kind and so understanding. He truly cared for her and everyone else, I love how he went about supporting them.
I loved the chemistry between them and their friendship.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI’ve been trying to write this review for hours but how do you describe a book that made you feel so much? This book was raw, real and had me ugly crying on multiple occasions.
Dani and Emmett have their whole lives planned out- they have a love that most people dream about- until the unthinkable happens and Emmett dies. Dani is lost and is consumed with grief, she leaves her whole life behind- leaving her family devastated.
After years, Dani returns home and nothing is the same. She meets her brother’s roommate, Kyler, and he is instantly attracted.. but Dani is still drowning.
Dani’s character development was amazing. Kylers patience, understanding and strength made him the ideal book boyfriend. The love Kyler has for Dani, and the respect he has for the trauma she has gone through was everything.
I Never Planned on You was such an emotional rollercoaster- it’s devastating.. but it’s also beautiful and I loved every moment. If I could rate this book 10 stars I would. I’m so excited to read more from Stefanie Jenkins.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story of love, heartbreak and recovery
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDani and Emmett, Dani's brothers best friend fall in love at 13, and the world only exists for the two of them. After a heartbreaking devastation that shatters their world, Dani leaves without a backward glance. She returns years later, back to her brothers arms... and finds herself faced with her brothers best friend all over again.
This is a heart wrenching story that made me ugly cry on many occasions throughout. The utter devastation written on the pages just shattered me and I had so many feels. I absolutely loved the song references, most of them I knew and sang along to, and the poems I also had heard before and I reccomend reading them for a real feel of the situation. It was beautiful. And emotional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing read 🥰
Format: KindleVerified Purchase😓Wtf did I just experience, Wrecked Emotionally
I cried , I cried some more and then when I thought there was nothing left I curled up in the foetal position and cried some more. The hurt that Danielle felt when she lost “ Emmett” the boy she had loved since she was 13 years old, they had plans and dreams and were going to live and grow old together. Life was as it was meant to be, until tragedy strikes and Emmett is taken from this world and allDanielles Dreams are gone.
The pain that Danielle experiences jumps out of the pages into you and you feel and experience her pain as if it has happened to you
The hurt is real and raw , very rarely has a book made me feel this way and I was a bloody mess. I started to relive my own pain of losing a loved one , not a partner like our leading lady but a loved one where the hurt was intense.
The journey we are taken on with Danielle and how she is thrown into a world without Emmett,
Years pass and so much happens ( you need to read as I’m nit going to spoil it for you) and without realising it Live knocks on Danielle’s door again ( sort of 🤣) in the form of her brothers best friend. Can she do this again after losing Emmett also her brothers best friend.
We are taken in the moving forward with her , the guilt felt by doing so the strange feelings that she begins to feel and likes.
Then realising that by not allowing herself this chance of living again and being loved that she is disrespecting the memory of Emmett, he had his chance of a forever and always taken from him for them and she was wasting the chance she was given even though it was not with Emmett
I learnt and realised so much being able to experience and learn and grow with Danielle in her stages of recovering from grief and allowing herself to be able to experience falling in love and being loved again when she meets Kyler.
Kyler a truely remarkable young man who sees and wants to help heal the young woman he meets and falls in love with.
The permission scene “ spoiler alert” between Kyler and Emmett had me reaching for the tissues again
Copious amounts of coffee was drunk by myself to get through this book
Thank you Stefanie you broke my heart but you
also taught me that moving on is a normal part of life but it is also a journey that for each individual may be a different passage of time. Grief and loss is not a path we want to take but it is inevitable unfortunately.
I now know I can take the chance and like Danielle survive so I can go on and read similar stories where I will cry bucket loads of tears go through copious amounts of tissues and have my kids ask me “ what the hell is wring mum” 🤣😂
A good bloody book was my reply.
That it was. Thank you Stefanie.
Apologies for punctuation mistakes it’s 4am in the morning and I woke up realising I hadn’t finished this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartache with a twist of sweetness
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHeartache, a million times over. I cried through half of this book it totally wreaked me. It was a sad, beautiful love story about loss, forgiveness and second chances. I thought I would never forgive the authot for the tears she made me cry but boy did she get back in my good graces with Kyler. He was just amazing. He was charming, sweet, goofy and just plan adorable.
Dani broke my heart so many times I truly felt for her I just wanted to hug her for all eternity.
This story brought all the feels and more it was a magical, sweet story that had you ball your eyes out but than smile at the sweetness and charms that was Kyler.
This story will stick with me for a long time because it did everything a love story should do and the author and her words are just magical.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5/5
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOverall it’s a good story but the main character Dani is quite selfish in her grief. Without spoiling anything I lost all sympathy for her when she selfishly got angry witnessing others falling in love and doing well post grief. Haylee her best friend is actually quite redeeming and very funny in certain spots. I’d still recommend this book because some might actually empathize with Dani’s emotions.
