INFECTED: A Dark Post-Apocalyptic Romance (The INFECTED Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
In this shattered world, trust is a luxury I can't afford. People are as treacherous as the Infected, and I've learned to steer clear of both.
Then I met him.
Ian, a man from a time when trust meant something, before the world plunged into chaos. Our connection was fleeting, born from desperation, and dissolved with the morning light. I thought that was the end of it.
Until I discovered I was carrying his child.
Years later, fate thrusts us together once more, igniting a spark that refuses to die. But in this unforgiving reality, trust is a fragile illusion.
Despite the deep bond we share, I can't afford to trust Ian completely. My instincts scream that danger lurks around every corner.
Especially when my psychic visions foretell the horrors looming ahead...
"INFECTED," the inaugural installment of the gripping Infected series, delves into a dark, adult realm of zombie dystopia, blending elements of horror, the paranormal, and heart-pounding action. Join Lillie and Ian on this harrowing journey as they navigate a world where survival isn't merely about staying alive. Download now and witness their struggle to find hope amidst the darkness.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2016Infected by Jessica Gomez was a good book. I really enjoyed it. There were parts that kept me on the edge of my seat. Honestly, I’m not into zombies; however, the story wasn’t about zombies. Not really. It’s more about survival than anything else.
When the FLASH happened, it killed most of the population. Some of the people who had survived became almost monstrous, zombie-like.
Creepy.
There were parts in this tale that had my heart racing, and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I felt bad for the main character Lillie because all of her life she had nobody—even before the FLASH happened. She grew up in foster homes and left at an early age to be on her own. When all hell broke loose, Lillie had no one to turn to, so she survived on her own. She ended up pregnant after she was raped and became a mother. She named her daughter Azami who was the light in Lillie’s dark world. One day, they came across James—a boy who was also surviving on his own. I like James and Lillie. It was cool how they became their own little family. Then a year later they decided to head to a place James’ older brother used to talk about before the apocalypse happened. James had high hopes his brother would be there since he couldn’t find him after the FLASH.
I’m going to stop there because I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but let’s just say Lillie doesn’t have good luck, and what she and James find when they reach their destination rocks her world.
This is a good story about survival, love, and trust. I’m glad I read it, and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2025I enjoyed this book. I look forward to reading the rest of this series. I am excited to see what happens next. I hope everyone finds their love matches. The characters were loveable and relatable. The scenes were great and swiftly moved to the next without problems. The storyline is excellent. The atmosphere was well crafted. I couldn't put this book down.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2023I really enjoyed this book and would give it more stars if I could. I thought the premise of how people became infected with zombie like traits was unique and different from other books. The world this author created was done well with the post apocalyptic setting and I could imagine how hard it would be to survive in this environment. The characters were well fleshed out and interesting and I loved the main couple, Lillian and Ian. The other characters were just as fun to read about as well. I was sad when I finished it but can't wait to read the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2025There was lots of violence and fighting, but it's an apocalypse book. I expected more action, but it kinda moved slowly. The spice was maybe a 2.
I liked it, but it had a hfn so I don't feel like I have to read the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2024This series gets a little steamy at times, but not overly so. It's fascinating to see how the infected evolve from decent people to monsters. It has plenty of action and surprises around every corner. Some of it is quite predictable but it's still a great series to read. Great characters and the plot is interesting. Looks like I have a new author to follow!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2017INFECTED IS THE FIRST BOOK I HAVE READ BY AUTHOR, JESSICA GOMEZ. I AM GLAD I DID. I REALLY ENJOYED THE BOOK. I AM NOT A BIG FAN OF ZOMBIE BOOK BUT I REALLY ENJOYED THIS ONE I LOVE THE AUTHOR'S TAKE ON ZOMBIES AND HOW THE WORLD ENDS. THE FLASH IS AN INTERESTING CONCEPT WHICH NEEDS TO BE EXPLORED FURTHER IN THE SERIES. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO KNOW HOW THE FLASH CAME TO BE AND WHY SOME ARE IMMUNE AND SOME ARE NOT?
I REALLY ENJOYED LILLIE'S CHARACTERS. SHE IS VERY TOUGH AND VERY STRONG. LILLIE HAD TO GROW UP FAST SINCE SHE HAD NO ONE TO TAKE CARE OF HER. I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HER BACKGROUND IN THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM. WHEN THE FLASH HAPPENS LILLIE IS ON HER OWN ONCE AGAIN BUT THIS TIME SHE HAS A NEWBORN BABY TO LOOK OUT FOR. I LOVE HER DAUGHTER. SHE IS SO CUTE AND ADORABLE. LILLIE MEETS A YOUNG BOY ON THEIR JOURNEY AFTER BEING ON THEIR OWN FOR SO LONG. A CONNECTION IS ESTABLISHED BETWEEN THEM AND THEY BECOME A FAMILY. LILLIE, HER DAUGHTER AND THE BOY DECIDE TO TRAVEL TO OREGON TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIND LIFE THERE. WHAT THEY DISCOVER MAY BE WORSE THEN THE INFECTED?
INFECTED IS AN ACTION PACKED SERIES THAT KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT. THERE ARE SO MANY TWIST AND TURNS THROUGHOUT THE STORY, IT WILL KEEP YOU GUESSING WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT UNTIL THE VERY END. I HAVE TO WARN YOU THAT THERE ARE VIOLENT SCENES AND PARTS THAT ARE GROSS AND EVEN CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES SUCH AS RAPE. THERE IS ROMANCE AND LOVE ALSO.
IF YOU LOVE ZOMBIE BOOK OR THE END OF THE WORLD, THIS SERIES IS DEFINITELY A MUST READ. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING MORE OF THE AUTHOR'S BOOKS AND THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2015I couldn't put this book down it was page turning. When the Flash happened it changed the world as we know it causing most people to drop dead or become the Infected. When Lillie survives the blinding light and the months following only to be surrounded by a gang intent on harm, she is certain that her life is over. Never dreaming that the one man who took away her girlhood could give her such happiness, Lillie and her daughter Azami stumble upon a youthful boy who is searching for a family to belong as we. Traveling to a place based on stories from before the Flash, the small family makes their way through the infected only to find they might have been safer where they had started from...
Looking at the face of the man who had been part of her worse nightmares for several years, Lillie must accept him and the shelter he offers or return to a world where the infected are getting worse and if forced to they leave and face the outside world, they might not be able to survive. This is an amazing story where the world ends only to discover this family bent on surviving anything the end has to offer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling start to new series.
Infected hits all the high notes as the start of a new series. It showcases the depth humanity is capable in the battle for survival as well as the joys when love is shared. The Infected are nightmare inducing and not exactly zombies, showing a cunning intelligence. What a scary thought, a flash of light and most of the world’s people die instantly. I found it incredibly hard to put this story down. Sleep? Who needs it! Read this series, you know you want to!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like The Host and The 5th Wave, this is for you!
I managed to binge this book within a couple of days I and loved every second of it. I'm usually very fussy when it comes to dystopian zombie novels, but the author has managed to create a real page turner that pushes the traditional boundaries of the genre. The story follows the main character Lilie and her baby daughter Azami, in a post apocalyptic world where the vast majority of the population has been killed by a deadly event called the flash. Some people were killed off instantly, others were seemingly immune, and the less fortunate became infected by a mysterious virus. Those that became infected, were turned into horrifying, sprinting, grotesque, zombie monsters that are the stuff of nightmares. There's no shambling zombies in this novel! And so ensues a heart wrenching, adrenaline fueled story with familial love and complex characters. There's a couple of themes in the book, without giving too much away, that were particularly bold for me, and a lazy author could have skirted around these issues. Thankfully the author tackled this head-on and managed to convey the complexity of the issue thoughtfully. The internal struggle of the main character is captured perfectly, and as the reader, you're left feeling conflicted....and then there's the hot eye candy too. Whats not to like? Overall i'd highly recommend this book to anyone that loves dystopian YA fiction with a sprinkling of romance. i'll certainly be buying the second one in the series, and I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Really interesting and hard to put down. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars its ok but not great
a good story very descriptive but a bit long winded characters were ok if a bit far fetched as no woman would fall in love with her rapist no matter how gently he was or why he did it
