The Queen's Starfire Throne (Infernal War Saga Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 214 ratings

Every road must come to an end.

THE DEAD. Facing a war where revenants outnumber the living, Caris Rourke must confront a future written in the stars, one she wants no part of. In order to outmaneuver the enemy, Caris must learn to trust her instincts, no matter where they lead, whether into the heart of danger or into the arms of Nathaniel, a dead man walking she should not trust, much less love.

THE WAR. Eimarille Rourke wants nothing more than to be queen of all Maricol and will do anything to succeed, even the unthinkable. Determined to claim the starfire throne for herself, she must first eradicate all other claimants. Seeking to assassinate her sister and brother amidst a war of her own making will lead Eimarille down a road of ruin from which there is no turning back.

THE LIVING. In the wake of the attack on the Warden’s Island, Soren returns to the people who made him into the warden he is today. But the past he thought he’d left behind as a child has given him a name he does not want. Far from the only man he’s ever loved, carrying a vow that could change the course of the war, Soren must decide if destroying his life is worth saving a world.

THE STARS. In the throes of an escalating war, Vanya Sa’Liandel must put his country above all else, even his own happiness. As Houses seek to betray him and the fallout of his family’s past mistakes claws ever closer, not having Soren by his side is an anguish he can’t escape. In the end, the tide of war could turn with an alliance he cannot afford to grant. But years ago, Vanya gave his heart to a warden, and some kinds of love weren’t meant to burn out but to rage like starfire.

Epic finale to a phenomenal series!
5 out of 5 stars
Epic finale to a phenomenal series!
"War had teeth, and it would always bite." The Queen's Starfire Throne was everything I wanted for the finale of the Infernal War saga. This trilogy has been absolutely amazing and with each new book, I fell more in love with this steampunk world of revenants, aeronauts, alchemists, wardens and all sorts of royals. Keeping in theme with the first two books, this one is full of magic, political alliances and betrayals, meddling gods and a long-awaited family reunion that is sure to end in bloodshed. "She was Rourke, and she would put out that ever- burning starfire to take the throne." It's no easy feat juggling so many different characters and POV's. But Hailey Turner uses each POV to effortlessly lead the way to this epic conclusion in the fight for the starfire throne. It's intense and emotional, with moments you never see coming. And though every chapter kept me hooked, I still had my favorites and Vanya and Soren didn't disappoint me at all. "Whatever crown he may have once worn in some other life, whatever name he may have once had, he didn’t want it. All he truly wanted was the love of a man who wanted nothing to do with him anymore." Every time it felt like they'd get to be together and happy, they were pulled apart in different directions. But it was all worth it for me because their ending was so wonderful and made me cry with how happy I was for them. They've been through so much and deserve all the joy that's coming for them. "We were a war story. It was never going to end with anything but this grief." For all that joy, there was an equal amount of heartbreak. Though I knew not everyone could be expected to make it to the end, I was still surprised by the journey of some of the characters. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but be prepared to have your heart broken when you least expect it. "I once said I could never go home again,” Soren rasped. “But that’s not true. You’re my homeland." There's something so special and unique about the world that Hailey's created that everytime I step into it, it takes me no time at all to remember what happened before. I'm so sad that this trilogy is over, but I truly love the way it ended. If you haven't visited the high-stakes world of Maricol yet, I'd definitely recommend you pick up this series. This epic steampunk fantasy is action-packed, romantic and full of political intrigue and is sure to keep you entertained from start to finish!

I was blessed to read an advance reader's copy of The Queen's Starfire Throne.

This has been my most anticipated read of 2024, and it did not disappoint. So much happened in this book, and everybody's roads ended where they were supposed to be. But let me tell you, Hailey Turner is the QUEEN of suffering, and EVERYONE suffered. There was loss, there was sacrifice, there was pain, and there was death. But throughout the whole thing was an undercurrent of fate that drove all our favorite characters. I was NOT expecting the devastation that Eimarille wreaked on the countries of Maricol, especially Solaria, nor the consequences that came in the fallout.

My favorite thing about this book has to be Soren. He was always a steadfast, practical person, but he grew out of that warden box he'd been in. And let me say, he was f*cking ruthless. It was such a surprise, but also really awesome to see him take charge, doing his duty, and never, ever wavering from who he was. I think Vanya could have been made to grovel a little more, but I was glad to see his and Soren's relationship reconnect and bloom. And the promise Vanya made???? It was as sweet as it was hot!

There were a few things I wish had happened in this last book since it's the last in the series. I wish there had been more Blaine and Honovi! I wish we had seen more of the time Vanya and Soren spent apart. I wish we had seen Soren practice his starfire to gain control. I wish the star gods' motivations had been sprinkled more throughout the series more. I wish we got to see the (inevitable) WEDDING (IYKYK)!!! And I wish Eimarille's defeat had had even more destruction. I wanted to see her suffer.

Overall, though, as always, this was a 5 star read from Hailey. I'm sad to see this series come to a close, but it was stunning in all its starfire glory. It was well worth the wait, and I eagerly await her next project!

'There is no future without a road
    No lasting sunset without
    the breaking dawn
A life is all that should ever be owed
To the ashes of memory there and gone'

Long awaited finale to an amazing story and I'm still debating where I want to land on my rating.

No matter the depth of EMOTIONAL DAMAGE that we were dealt from Hailey in this -AND THERE WAS A LOT!!!- it felt like the urgency of a broken out war was missing, not to mention the disappointment and dissatisfaction because of E'ridia and Solaria's absent help. And to a point I can understand Solaria, but E'ridia really needed the whole "I TOLD YOU SO" by Honovi not only to be said but yelled at!! He was a bigger man that myself.

'For war was never famine; it was always feast.
It ate the lives of people in its path, swallowed their hope,
and burned their freedom to ash.
War was a glutton never satisfied, bones of the conquered churning
beneath the boots of an army that kept driving forward.
War had teeth, and it would always bite.'

I had SIA's "I forgive you" playing whenever it was Soren or Vanya's POV, because you know, Vanya being stupid to Soren.

"The Ashionens cannot have you, and the wardens do not want you, so you will be mine."

I LOVED their parts, needing to do their duty, fighting to make it to be together, choosing the road, no matter the obstacles, that will lead them in a life together and the short story we got at the end was perfect. I kinda do not want to let go so if Hailey can keep sprinkling short stories with them I'd be ever so grateful!!!

"My darling, I love you, and I would have lived for you, but there is no living with a broken heart like mine."

Oh my happiness when it came to Terilyn and Eimarille (yeah I'm mean but really I can't with entitled, narcissistic, arrogant persons). It was perfect that it was Soren that handled all that! Poor Caris got a heap of heartbreak. Really Hailey was exceptionally mean to her and I was so hoping for at least one support making it through. But alas... the ending was heartwarming and heartbreaking.

Loved the POVs from Aaralyn and Innes.

Best secondary, supportive character goes to Taisiya because she stood by Vanya and Soren's side throughout everything!!! She knew she'd have no Vanya without Soren. Not one that wouldn't let the world burn.

If you haven't started this series waiting for it to be complete, get ready, take yourself a few days off and fortify yourself because Maricol's true bane isn't the revenants.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
  • Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2024
It was a pleasing conclusion, as unnerving as I found reading the point of views of characters I knew were bound to die at the end of this third book, we knew what we signed up for as readers when we were first introduced to a multitude of characters with various point of views presented in book one.

I must admit I imagined some scenes going differently than they were portrayed. It’s never good for a story to be too predictable. Although I would caution against holding off big reveals for too long until they become almost anti-climactic. The souldbound series suffered from the same thing when it came to the secret Jono carried. And here, Soren hiding his ability to use Starfire even after being revealed as a prince who should be able to cast it went a tad too long.

The one scene I did envision was the three siblings in the same room together all fighting with Starfire, and that admittedly was the best scene in the entire book. And trust that Soren and Vanya’s reunions were a close second.

I wouldn’t mind reading further spin-offs of this series, even with the time jump in the epilogue indicating the end of Caris’ life at a ripe old age. There’s plenty of story left to depict during and before that time. And since the author knew how much we needed more Soren and Vanya I will have to check out their bonus wedding scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent conclusion to the series.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 11, 2024
This whole series is an awesome read, it totally gripped me from start to finish. I've always found the author's style very easy to read, this last book was no different, and I flew through it at breakneck speed. I loved the way the main characters changed and evolved throughout the series, and the way it was cleverly plotted. It's an excellent read, with lots of twists and turns, all heading towards a brilliant ending. Soren and Vanya are still my favourites, my heart bled for them, from start to finish. I also felt for Eimarille, she really had no choice in whether or not she followed the path she'd been set, despite her great loss. I loved the way the author built a totally engrossing and believable fantasy world, full of warring kingdoms and political intrigue. The ending blew me away, what a writer Ms Turner is!

I received an ARC of this story, which in no way influenced my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foi muito bom estar pela última vez com estes personagens
Reviewed in Brazil on May 12, 2024

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Reviewed in Germany on May 21, 2024
It took some time until I got familiar with the universe the author had created. And I had to use the glossary more often than I‘d like to admit. Too many characters, too many POV. It was confusing. That’s why my review at the end of the first book would have been: less would’ve been better.
Now, after reading the final book, my thoughts have changed completely: much more would’ve been so much better!
I actually find it hard to „move on“, it won’t be easy to find similarly amazing books.
AND: I think there is not a single swear word to be found in the whole series. Astounding and brilliant and actually worth more than 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars An end to the Infernal wars
Reviewed in Australia on May 12, 2024
Another long book to finish the series. There were no surprises in this book, the characters mostly got what they deserved and all loose ends were tied up. The war scenes were good, if a little too close to the truth of the day.
Though I loved the resolutions for the characters and they mostly got what they deserved, this one seemed a bit rushed despite the length and the ending annoyed me, this was unnecessary in adult fiction. For that reason, 4 stars for this one, overall it was good but not great.
