He’s wanted her for years…but they’re professionals now. Who will cross the line first?
Skylar
I’ve fought my way to the captaincy of Calderdale Ladies, and it means everything to me. So when my toxic boyfriend breaks my heart, I bottle it up. The team comes first.
Dr Reece Forster is supposed to be getting the team in the right head space for victory, not counselling me through heartache, but I can’t help opening up to him.
The hot doc is off limits, but the chemistry between us is off the charts…
Reece
I’ve longed for Skylar Marshall since we were in school, when she was prom queen and I was eating lunch with the librarian. She never even knew I existed.
And now? I’m good at my job because I’m in control. The professional boundaries are there for a reason.
But when Skylar confides in me, it’s all I can do not to abandon my principles completely. If I tell her how I feel, I could lose everything. But, how can something that feels this right be wrong…?

About the Author
Sasha Lace used to be a very serious scientist before she ditched the lab coat and started writing kissing books. Sasha lives in the North of England and is a mom of two young boys. Everyone in her family is soccer mad, so she knows way more about soccer than she ever wanted to know. As a scientist and mom, her hobbies include: mulling over the complexities of the universe, treading barefoot on Lego, chipping dried Play-Doh from fabric surfaces, dried flower arranging (because you can’t kill something twice), and writing about herself in the third person.

Scoring the Doctor was so much deeper and more complex than I had anticipated. I was not expecting the emotional and psychological punch that this story packed.
Reece has been taking care of his mom, helping raise his younger siblings, and working relentlessly at the hospital as a psychologist. His ex left him after his mom’s stroke and now he feels as if he is being buried by burdens and the pressure to be perfect. So when his sister and her billionaire husband suggest he take a sabbatical from the hospital and come do some psychological training with his brother in laws all girls soccer team he decides that maybe this is the break he needs to recover. It doesn’t hurt that Skyler, the girl he has been in love with since high school, is the captain of the team. Not that he can have any type of relationship with her…but…he can’t help but want to be near her.
And well Skyler…Skyler…is slowly falling apart herself. When she discovers her long time boyfriend has been unfaithful she kicks him out and decides to focus on soccer, motivating her team, and winning the next three games. But the pressure of soccer, her captain duties, and the doubts of her self worth brought on by a mentally abusive partner are taking a toll on her and she decides seeking help from the teams new—some what nerdy, but handsome—psychologist might be her best option to keep her head in the game.
And what follows is a story about two lost people searching for themselves. All the while navigating exes, soccer, meddling family, unfaithful friends, the patient/Dr expectations and the moral and ethical ramifications of a sexual relationship between the two, sexual psychology, realizing one’s own self worth, and deciding what one is willing to risk for love and acceptance.
This book was so much deeper psychologically than I anticipated. And honestly I’ve had to think it over for the past two days to wrap my mind around it. I really really loved both Skyler and Reece and my heart yearned for them to be together. I wanted their situation to be simple. They loved each other and so duh? They of course would be together right? But Lace really dove into the reality of this situation. The fact that Reece saw Skyler as his patient and therefore was torn between wanting her mind, body, and soul but also hating himself was really written quite well. After the psychology major in me analyzed it for the past 2 days I’ve decided that I don’t really think it was as big of an issue as he made it in his mind. And I’m glad that in the end they could be together.
Both had to do some growing and finding themselves and in the end they ended up right where they should be and I really enjoyed how Lace wrote it. It was realistic to their situation and it turned out very sweet.
Now this book was spicy! Not the spiciest I’ve ever read…buuuuuut…close. However, I really think that the sexual intimacy of the story was absolutely necessary to the development of both Skyler and Reece’s characters. They both learned a lot about themselves and each other and I think it was written really honest and true.
So yep, do you enjoy a little of soccer, a lot of spice, and some depth and substance to your romance novels? Where things aren’t always sunshine and roses, but that’s ok because the hard times make the Happily Ever After that much sweeter! Where you learn to accept and appreciate yourself? If you do then you just have to read Scoring the Doctor.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2023Skylar is a soccer player and Reece is the new psychologist assigned to the team. He's there to help and discuss any issues that the ladies have to help with their mental health. When Skylar goes to him she wants to get to know him, not to get advice. He's resistant though. Over time they have to figure it what the relationship is for them.
I'm loving this series and can't wait for more!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2023This book is definitely in the realm of taboo, and you need to be aware and okay with that. A psychologist is hired to help the women's football club with some of the stress and pressure of earning a spot in the top league. The captain of that football club falls hard and fast for the good doctor and they start an illicit affair.
Both Reece and Skyler were incredibly likable and the store moved at a good pace. She's coming off a really bad relationship, and he's crushed on her since high school. The inappropriateness of their affair is very clearly stated, particularly the guilt he suffers from trashing his own ethics to go after what he wants.
The spice was great! I give that 4 stars!
What lacked for me was a real spark between them. I never got the sense that they truly got to know one another. There wasn't any of the swoony feelings I want in a romance. Too much telling not enough showing, and while I appreciate their personal struggles, the internal thoughts got very repetitive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book
Wow, highly recommend!
I originally just was looking for a book to last a week when I had a spare 10 minutes. However, I finished this is less then a day.
I love a strong smart female main character. I love growth in characters, strong plot lines and solid writing styles. This had it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel good romance to make you swoon!
I loved this story. Sweet, sexy, fun and swoon worthy. I loved Reece, and watching Skylar slowly pull down his defensive walls was just wonderful. I was cheering for her all the way!
This book has its fair share of heat and spice, but it's never overdone or too much, the focus is still the beautiful romance at the heart of this book. I read it in one bingeable session in KU and then I bought it in ebook, now I'm off to pre-order book 3!
