About the authors
John Hindmarsh was born in 1785. From Wikipedia - Rear-Admiral Sir John Hindmarsh RN (1785 – 1860) was a naval officer and the first Governor of South Australia, from December 1836 to July 1838.
During the Battle of the Nile on 1 August 1798, the fire on board the French line-of-battle ship l'Orient put the Bellerophon (1786) in danger; all the other officers on the quarterdeck on the Bellerophon were killed or wounded, so 13-year-old Midshipman John Hindmarsh gathered some of the crew, cut the anchor cables, and raised a spritsail to get the ship moving.
You realize I write fiction? The above is all true - except I'm a different John Hindmarsh.
Yes, I write science fiction and thrillers, sometimes with crossover. Well, you need a thrill in your SF and an occasional touch of science in your thrillers. I'm Australian, and now live in Southern California, where I'm writing full time. I could be simply relaxing when I'm not writing.
My books generally are written with an American voice [well, I try], although I prefer to write British English. So I get mixed up - in any event, I claim aluminium is the correct word.

Annihilation. This series takes a thrilling perspective and examines what happens when Artificial Intelligence gets too intelligent. Remember, there's nothing artificial about AI.
The theme - AI: Demon or Friend, the Beginning or the End?
Science Fiction.
The Glass Complex series. The first book is Broken Glass, followed by Fracture Lines and the third book, Diamond Cut, was released in 2017.
Shen Ark: Departure was released as a possible beginning of a series. Currently it is a standalone title.
I have written a number of short stories, all science fiction although perhaps one or two have a touch of fantasy. Check my web site - www.JohnHindmarsh.com

Craig is a million-selling author of science fiction (post-apocalyptic, military sci-fi, and space opera), thrillers, and non-fiction.
Craig retired from the Marine Corps after a long career in the military intelligence community, having worked with most of the U.S. Government's three-letter agencies. After a short stint with physical security, Craig went to law school, graduated summa cum laude, and went into business consulting. From intelligence, to the inner workings of company board rooms, to on-the-ground leadership, Craig has seen it firsthand.
His books are an extension of his experience, putting the trials and tribulations of a fast-paced world into your hands. Whether in Science Fiction, Thrillers, Fantasy, or even his Non-Fiction, you'll find consistent themes of justice and doing right by those who are counting on their leaders. Leadership is a service, not a crown to lord over others.
No matter where Craig went, he always had a book with him. Thanks to 21st Century technology, He now has thousands of books at his fingertips and with him wherever he goes. How many books would he have read on deployments had he not had to carry a physical book?
No one is encumbered like that now. Craig loves the works of Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Andre Norton, JRR Tolkien, Robert E. Howard, and so many more. He has been compared to Andre Norton and that is humbling - she was an incredible author with a huge list of novels to her credit. With every new book, Craig aspires to live up to those that you, the readers, have compared him to.
Through a bizarre series of events, Craig ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He never expected to retire to a place where golf courses are only open for four months out of the year. But that's the way it is. It is off the beaten path. He and his wife get to watch the northern lights from their driveway. Their dog has lots of room to run, just until temperatures reach fifty below zero. They have from three and a half hours of daylight in the winter to twenty-four hours in the summer.
It’s all part of the give and take of life. If they didn’t have those extremes, then everyone would live in the sub-arctic.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2024Craig Martell has done an excellent job of continuing and concluding John Hindmarsh’s vision for this very enjoyable space opera. There were one or two editorial whoops, but it was obvious what was intended. A really fun series, with a very positive vision for a future.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2023Book 6 of the Jack Foster Space Opera Series was a satisfying ending to a roller coaster series. The first book in the series was an absolutely stunning book. It felt like it was written for ages 14 - 16 and had all the good qualities of old school Hard Science Fiction. Book 2 was more of the same, expanded on and resolved issues from Book 1. Books 3 through 5 quickly devolved into a complex, almost abstract hodge podge of characters, situations and activity that was not nearly as enjoyable. It felt like the author did not outline the plot and characters, and was writing freehand while on a mild hallucinogenic trip. I understand that the author passed away early during the writing of Book 6 and it was finished by friends. I regret the loss to the world of the amazing quality this author was capable of. Book 6; It is obvious that it was not completed by the author, but those doing the work did a great job. They satisfactorily resolved many of the situations presented in the series and they "lived happily ever after" could have been the last line. I wonder if while writing books 3 through 5, the author was dealing with health issues. That could have contributed to the irregular quality of the writing during that time. Recommendations; Highly recommend books 1 and 2. Books 3 through 5 are not recommended other than as a bridge to Book 6. Book 6 is a satisfying conclusion to the series, and is recommended as such.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2023One of the best crafted storylines I’ve read for anyone who enjoys sci-fi and paranormal activities! Good solid character development, well developed secondary cast and a plot which spins through multiple twists and turns, while heading always in the same direction.
Definitely well worth adding to your collection.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2024I have totally enjoyed this series from start to finish. I can easily compare John Hindmarchs style of writing with Andre Norton, Anne McCaffrey and other great SIFI fiction writers. It been a long time since I have had the pleasure to read books of this caliper.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fitting end
This has been a series of exploration - probably for both the author and the reader.
This is a fitting, if slightly predictable, end to a series which has been enjoyable throughout, and masterful in parts.
Thanks for a gripping tale, John!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great finish
An amazing finish to this story, for those of us who have read each book in the proper sequence. Thanks to Craig, Cathy and Daryl for completing the series as artfully, funny and enthralling as if John had written it. And, if you don't know what I am talking about, just read the books, eh!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tied with a neat bow
Art is an interaction between the artist, the medium they use& their audience
This final book allows justice & mercy for almost all characters of the series because it is a space opera & not real life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun start, quiet finish
I enjoyed the underdog premise and action early in the series. Not the strongest plot editing, but enjoyed the read. As the series continued things became more fantastical and required characters actions to be illogical. Dialogue fairly uninspired. Last book felt like the author was done before the series was. Tied up the loose ends, but I didn’t feel there was any tension or uncertainty in the outcome. I know the hero generally wins by the end of most books, but in this case Jack walks in and waves his hands and everything is fixed.
Try Honor Harrington or Stellar Fox for similar themes, but stronger story telling.
