Kickin' It (Red Card Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,284 ratings

Love breaks the offside rule in New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken’s irresistibly sexy Red Card romance.

Successful, high-profile sports agent Matt Kingston thinks he can handle anything. Then soccer player Parker Speedman shows up at his door. She is young and gorgeous, has natural talent, and is looking for a team. She’s also a hothead with a punchy past who floored her last coach on live TV. Despite his misgivings, Matt agrees to be both her agent and her coach. Professional common sense says she’s off-limits. But what can he say about the raw attraction between them?

Parker plays soccer with her heart and soul. But after the events of the last year, she’s shaken. She’s already seen what a powerful man can do to a female athlete’s career. And her beloved dream is in the hands of a sexy, gorgeous man with the uncanny ability to slip past her defenses…and into her heart.

Now Matt and Parker are about to learn that when it comes to love, the only way to win is by breaking every rule they know. And by playing nice. Real nice.

Wow... That was an emotional story to listen to. I absolutely loved Matt and Parker (plus the side of Willow and Jagger). Their connection was inspiring, refreshing and so damn potent it was practically jumping from the speakers into my ears. Their journey was rough, shrouded with doubt and past hurts and worry - but it was oh so delicious. And sexy, and sweet, and just... gah! I loved them. The hurt, insecurity and fear were evident in the way Laurie narrated Parker's story. Supported by William, they made this book one that will stay with me for a long time. Amazing job narrating you two!

Rachel Van Dyken has done it again. She has brought us a book full of laughs, angst, and a book that just can't be put down! Kickin' It is one of those books that you are pulled in from the beginning, and the next thing you know it's over and you aren't ready to say goodbye to the characters yet. Parker is in Seattle with her best friend Willow staying at Willow's brother Matt's house for the summer. Parker needs Matt to help her secure a contract on a team, it's her dream, her life, and her passion, but she just needs to learn to trust him, and that's the hard part. Matt doesn't know what to do with his unexpected house guest. One moment he wants to strangle her, and the next moment he wants to kiss her. These two are like gasoline and fire, and are about to combust, but there is so much standing in their way.Parker has been through so much, and she doesn't let anyone in, not even Willow, but as this book progresses you can see she slowly lets Matt break down her barriers and she lets him in on her secrets as to what has happened to her. With all this newfound knowledge Matt doesn't know what to do, and the conflict is there, but so is his feelings for Parker. He's her agent, her friend, her coach, and so much more, and things between them definitely get interesting.I loved the push and pull between Parker and Matt in this book. The banter between them was hilarious, and throw in the secondary characters and I was laughing out loud throughout most of this book. But there was a serious undertone in this book as well, and that was Parker's story, and it was a hard story to go through, and she dealt with a lot, and thankfully she was finally able to open up to Matt. Kickin' It was a beautifully written story, it was angsty, hilarious, hot, and sweet. I loved Matt.. we all need one of him in our lives, and I think we all need a little bit of Parker's attitude in our lives as well too. The way this story ended was beautiful, and I'm glad that Parker finally got her closure, even if it was a little scary for everyone involved. If you're a lover of Rachel Van Dyken, angsty romances, or read Risky Play and want more of the characters, I highly suggest picking up Kickin' It today!

**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

Oh how I love any RVD book! I was so excited to get my hands on the second book in the Red Card series. We met Matt Kingston in book one and I for one was anxious to see what happened when the right woman finally found her way into his life!

Matt is a sports agent and he works hard to make sure his athletes get the best from him every single day. His younger sister, Willow, wants a job with his agency, which in reality should make him happy and make his life easier, but when she decides to move in, and bring her friend Parker, with her, things get mighty interesting!

Parker Speedman has always wanted to play professional soccer. She's an amazing player, but during her college career she found herself blacklisted after she punched her coach. You know what they say though, what you see on the surface isn't necessarily the whole story and that is definitely the case where Parker is concerned.

When Matt signs on as Parker's agent, that is all that he intends to be, but when he realizes her talent, he decides to train her, and then there is that little issue of the chemistry the two seem to have in spades! Matt is between a rock and a hard place because he wants to help Parker succeed on the field in any way he can, but personally he has finally found someone that interests him romantically. What Matt nor Parker realize at first is that Matt is the person that Parker has needed in her life for many reasons and he might just be the first person to fight for her.

I absolutely loved this book. There is no doubt it was realistic and the issues that were dealt with in this book are no doubt something that go on every single day in our world. The fear, the anger, the doubt, all of it is justifiable and also sad because people should be believed when they speak up.

Also, I LOVED the supporting characters in this book. Between Willow and Matt's clients, Slade and Jagger it is just a great group. If you haven't picked up the first book in this series, you should and then enjoy this one right along with it! You won't be sorry!

This book was so relevant to the current frustrations surrounding men and women in professional sports. My heart was completely in this story. I loved just how protective Matt became with Parker, how he knew there was so much more to her story then she lead on. It was so great to see how age truly doesn’t matter when it comes to your heart, it doesn’t lie. Parker’s story just broke my heart. The shame in knowing that you felt judged by the world. She was so strong but still dying inside with her secret. I couldn’t put this book down. Rachel was so respectful of the intensity and truth of this story. I kept turning pages and wanting more..... So beautifully written a must read for all!!! 5 stars!!

A beautiful young girl with à special talent for soccer and in disgrace with her club in LA for punching her coach. Goes home with her Uni.friend, Willow to Seatle, where her brother lives. An ex player, now agent to his team mates and sometimes coach and who lives in a mansion and immediately, there is an instant attraction between them. But Parker having à dark secret which gives her nightmares and panic attacks and the reason for leaving LA, smothers her attraction toward Willow's brother, Matt. But one can only deny love for so long and then the dam bursts and floods your being that you can resist no longer. And the only way to act on those feelings was to tell Matt her dark secret. The fact that her coach made her have sex with him and threatened to destroy her career in soccer for good. Matt was enraged enough to commit murder to this couch, Erik when hé'd heard her story and when Matt had flown Parker to meet à team in LA for her to try out for, Erik was one of the coaches. She was horrified and excused herself to the bathroom to cool down and Erik was waiting for her when she came out grabbing hold of her, but was saved by Matt intervening and hé left. Déclining to stay after the debacle they left LA after they sealed their feelings for each other as a couple. Evil only reigns so long and then it has it's downfall in the form of Parker, being threatened by Erik with à gun to go with him, but sh e had other ideas and kicked him where it hurts and he collapsed in a heap and the police came and Matt and the whole team watched as he was carted off to prison, the other girls came forward as they and been victims too. Parker was à heroine and was awarded à red whistle and a beautiful sparkly diamond ring along with Willow and Jagger, Matts old team mateand agent. Great read.
