I normally don't read mystery/thrillers but what a great story. There's not a lot of action at all not until the end anyway. The story however does keep moving forward at a really good pase and stays very interesting as our journalist (Eva) keeps interviewing the town folk of a sleepy little tourest town caled Cloud Lake in Maine about UFO sighting for a fluff piece to put in an online magazine. The more she digs into the towns past and its people, the more she uncovers of her own repressed memories and learns what really happened to herself all those hears ago on one eventful summer night when the lights appeared over Cloud Lake. The character development is good and the author does a great job at building the world and environment around the town of Cloud Lake along with flash backs that help build on clues as to what really happened all them years ago to Eva.

A well written story that will keep you reading. There are creepy events characters and several surprises that makes this a good book and worth the time you spend reading it. I like that it doesn't use profanity or spicy sex action just to pad the story. I'm glad I had this in my library.

Nice story, but disappointing that I could identify the villain so quickly. I also did not like the ending...no real resolution of the bigger mystery. It's definitely one way to end a story, but not to my liking.

After being submerged in Nathan's other multi-book series for the most of this year while I waited with great anticipation for the last one to be released, this book was like a breath of fresh air - a fun break. Nathan painted the scenes so vividly. In them, I could see myself, not only as the young woman telling her story as it unfolds, but also as she recalls her Summers as a young girl, set almost exactly twenty years before. I felt transported to a 'remember back in the day when...? time'. Thanks for a refreshing, yet exciting mystery!

In terms of sci-fi, this is pretty light. But it’s got likable characters, a good plot, and some nice twists. What I enjoyed most was the internal growth and personal discovery of Jessica along the journey through the story. Not common in this type of book, but it was really nicely done!

Well it had me going for a while but you will have to read it for yourself. What happened to Jessica Carver that Summer at Cloud Lake? There's a mystery, and suspense at every turn. I really enjoyed reading Nathan Hystad's novel.

Jess had undergone a missing week as a child who believed she was abducted by aliens. Off course, no one believed her and a man was falsely convicted. She suffered so much ridicule that she moved away from Cloud Lake, changed her name and became a reporter. Her boss sent her to Cloud Lake to cover the story of a missing girl. When she arrives, memories of her earlier experience start to return and a series of strange events begin to occur with lots of twists and turns. I found it to be an enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stupendous Reading
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 7, 2019
Firstly, I would like to point out that I live in a place called Doncaster in Yorkshire in England and I make a point of that because it is alongside a mountain range called the Pennines and back in 1984 I read a factual book on alien abductions by Jenny Randall called the Pennine UFO Mystery and I found that the abductions written into this book were so accurately described I felt a chill run through me. Now that book has been out of print here in the United Kingdom since 1991 so full marks to Nathan for his handling of that part of the book, add to it a thrilling story with a hint of mystery and suspense and I was totally hooked.
I don't often do reviews as I have read some rubbish, but Mr Hystad I am going to read all of your Sci-Fi books after reading this one. A lot of book reviews always have a quick review that says something like a "A Rivetting Read" and I would agree with that but I wanted to add to it, so Stupendous Reading came to mind, I was hooked from the first chapter and had to put it down halfway through at 1.00am in the morning otherwise it would have read in one go.
I enjoyed the plot, the characters had depth and could be related to and I found myself almost alongside the main character.
Good stuff, the sort that a good well produced movie could be made of as there seems to be a shortage of Sci-fi movies that do not have Star Wars themes to them.

    i thoroughly enjoyed this book.
A journalist is sent to investigate reports of UFO sightings in a small town where she had regularly visited as a young child. Something happened back then, but was it at the hands of aliens or humans?
The story flips between the past and the present as she starts to recover memories of her trauma as she interacts with people.
It's a well written and conceived story, with enough ambiguity and unanswered questions to keep the reader engaged to the end.

I felt like this could be a good book number 1 . Creating characters and a good back history that the reader is invested in .
Book number 2 could really get into the X-Files kind of stuff that I think most readers are looking for. Over all a good book .
