Review

-"A heart-warming story about an elderly couple who find each other late in life and follow their hearts despite their children's disapproval. The story takes the reader from the Bahamas, where the author lives, to Scotland, where she was born and back again. Love and intrigue intertwine along the way to reach a satisfying conclusion." - Mrs H E McLoughlin (5 stars)-"A most enjoyable novel. Easy reading, but compulsive. As well as an intriguing storyline, it bought alive both the atmosphere of the Bahamas and Scotland." - Colin Parkes (5 stars)-"An elderly couple find love second time around and are determined to hold on to it in spite of fierce opposition from their offspring in this moving tale of family dynamics and relationships in later life. Based on a story first published in The Lady. JC" ("The Lady", London, England, Page 49 - book review by Juanita Coulson, Books Editor, August 19, 2016)

Fay Knowles is a Scottish-born author who made The Bahamas her home many years ago. She has been writing since the age of nine, penned a children’s adventure book at eleven and won a school essay competition at age fifteen.

After leaving school at sixteen, she trained in Devon, England, as a secretary, then newspaper reporter. At the age of twenty she set off to “work her way around the world”, first emigrating by ship to Canada. She worked as an editorial assistant for the former "Canadian Food Journal" and "Gift Buyer", Toronto. And then, to avoid a Canadian winter and to seek sunnier climes, she took a Greyhound coach down across the U.S. from Toronto to Miami, en route for The Bahamas. She met her future husband Erskine in Nassau a month after that and they were married the following year. She jokes: “I never did travel the world!”

As well as getting by-lines in British and Bahamian newspapers, Fay’s articles have appeared in "Westward News" (a former in house publication of British Telecom), the "Kennel Gazette" (official journal of the British Kennel Club), "Christian Herald", and "Sports Magazine Bahamas". She has Diplomas in Novel Writing from Writer’s Digest School and in Short Story Writing from International Correspondence School.

Her writing assignments have included articles for Bahamas Information Services, travel writing for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and as a photo journalist for a local mall, Nassau, Bahamas. She once worked as a “temp” for the late Sir Etienne Dupuch, former Publisher/Editor of "The Tribune", Nassau, transcribing his long, captivating editorials.

Fay’s short stories have been published in "The Lady" magazine, London, England, and "The Broadkill Review", Delaware, U.S.A.; with poetry in the U.K. magazine "Evergreen".

Most of her short stories in "Sunbeams from the Heart - A Collection of Twelve Romantic Short Stories" were first published in "The Lady" or "The Broadkill Review". The author drew on her Scottish background and knowledge of The Bahamas when writing her romantic suspense novel "Dangerous Devotion" (formerly "Love at Sunset") - Buchanan Mystery Romance Series Book One. And her mini-memoir "The Scottish Connection" tells of her journey back to Scotland with her mother and young sons to revisit their Scottish roots. Her fourth book is “How to Be the Best Writer Ever! - An informal guide and source of inspiration for new and not so new writers worldwide". The fifth - "Moonbeams from the Soul - A Collection of Fourteen Provocative Short Stories". And her sixth - "Deadly Deceit in Paradise" - Buchanan Mystery Romance Series Book Two.

Also, check out her poignant short story "Funnels"!

'Dangerous Devotion' is a story about an elderly couple, Violet and Gordon, who have fallen deeply in love with one another. However, they face staunch opposition of that reality from their own children for various reasons. Determining to be together 'til the very end, they make a huge step to ensure that happens, no matter the cost.

This story covers the drama-filled lives of a number of very interesting characters and I was amazed at how the author was able to craft such a plot and cover ground so extensively and cleverly. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it. It's gripping, alluring and so wonderfully romantic on many different levels.

A job well done by Fay Knowles!

Great story with lots of moving parts. I was excited to reach the end to find out if Tate and Claudia finally got their comeuppance. As a Bahamian, I loved reading about my country and appreciated the attention to details by the author. I found this book to be far better than many books I’ve read by more well known authors in this genre. Kudos to FK.
P.s. Got to meet the author purely by chance in a coffee shop in Nassau. What a delightful lady.

What a lovely little lighthearted read especially if you love the Bahamas which I do! A great little summer book to enjoy with some twists and turns that are unexpected! I am looking forward to reading part two in the series!

A wonderful novel about the pleasantries of love and romance as well as the
strains of family and island politics. Author extraordinaire Fay Knowles
uses pervading charm, poignant description, clever humor, and witty dialogue
to portray a suspenseful romance between two elderly characters, Violet and
Gordon, whose love must overcome crime, corruption, and family dissension.
In the story, the two love-birds who use their wit and resource to escape
the unwanted bounds of their life in the Bahamas and move to Scotland in
attempt to create a peaceful and fulfilling life as a married couple. The
characters' brave and inspiring relationship makes readers want to vacation
among the "breathtaking" "lochs" laying in the valleys and "vast green
fields" of Scotland. It also makes some of us want to leave our unsure and
in some cases, singular lives, and live an adventure of love that transcends
time and place, leaving us abandoned in an absolute state of peace, joy, and
enchantment. Fay Knowles beautifully and ambitiously weaves together a great
story that leaves all wishing, dreaming, and hoping that true love, like the
love between Violet and Gordon, is still up for grabs.

The book is a good read with a lot of plot twists that keep to the end. You can tell the authors familiarity with the different places and the knowledge of them. This kept me engaged straight to the end and is definitely worthy to be made into a short film. Although I thought there would be more sad endings for the different characters, this is truly a happy ending type of novel. I'd recommend this especially for those living in The Bahamas.

A wonderful, tightly plotted read. It's refreshing to see an older couple in love and creating their own adventures. I particularly liked the descriptions of The Bahamas and Scotland where the action takes place. The characters are memorable, both good and bad, and there is an upbeat ending.
A good book to read with your feet up under a palm tree.
