    This is my first book by this author. It certainly won’t be my last. This is the story of descendants of Vlad Tepes, AKA as Dracula. They’re currently living in Romania. There are five siblings that were turned before Vlad’s untimely death. Mirabella, Violeta, Vladimir, Alexandru & Nicolai. Nicolai (AKA Nico) is the eldest or the first turned. Violeta is very sick & none among them know how to help her. Nico decides to go into the village to seek out assistance from the local physician. He’s one of a handful of people in this village that have taken a familial oath, as have generations before him to protect this royal family from the house of Dracul. Yet he gets there too late. He finds the doctor dead, his daughter under attack & a fire has broken out. He intercedes to save the daughter, Natassa (AKA Tassa). She’s taken to Castle Dracul to convalesce & to help find a cure for Violeta in her father’s stead. They will embark on a dark journey into Violeta’s illness, its root cause, treatment, village superstition, & civil unrest in both the supernatural & human village.     This book was interesting, I liked the different take on vampire romance. I will say it felt weird how she kept calling her father daddy, it seemed inappropriate culturally and for her age. Overall it was a good read, but didn’t overly captivate me to the point I needed to read the next book.

    This book does a great job of introducing the reader to the core cast of characters that look to be part of this series. It has some nice plot twists, a good bit of romance, and is set in an interesting part of the world. It makes no allusions to being a stand-alone book, but does a good job of telling a complete episode while leaving the reader eager for more.

    Immortal Illusion is the first book in the Royals of Transylvania series and what an exciting series this is shaping up to be. If you are a fan of this Author’s Moonlight Rogues series, there is a wee bit of a crossover in this story that has promise to play a larger part within this series. I am soooo excited about this! No worries, though, if this is the first book you have read from the Author. The crossover would only be recognized by readers who knew that series. This book can be read as a standalone without the feeling that you are lost.

    As one of the first vampiri created, Nicolae had been around for a very looong time. During that time, he had seen and done much but there was also an event that rocked his world to a point that he had yet to recover. Present day, Nicolae was a very morose character who was lost in apathy. I can’t say I was a huge fan of him at the start of this story because he was so sullen and only took action with much prodding from his sister.

    With vampiri living so long, I can understand that they would all fall into apathy after a while. For that reason, I tried to keep an open mind about Nicolae and over the course of the story he grew on me.

    There was more to Immortal Illusion than two souls finding each other. I liked the complicated sibling relationships. Especially how the siblings rallied together for their sister, Violet. Even Nicolae snapped out of his self-isolation funk to do what he could to help her. Though, the shining star of the story for me was Tassa. She was a strong character who took an incredible situation and made the best out of it. She took her time to analyze the life changes she was going through and tried acting in a way that was best for who she was. I liked that she didn’t lose herself to passion or the situation at hand.

    The other characters who are a part of this series were all introduced in Immortal Illusion and some of them are not what I would consider likable. I am curious to see if the author can bring me around to giving them a chance as the series goes on. This story also has an ending which promises more to come with a much larger overarching plot that I am interested to see come to fruition. Which, of course, makes it obvious that this is a series that I would like to continue and hope you would give it a chance, too.

It was funny and amusing to take a old vampire that really is bored and throw him into a bit of a mystery with a dash of suspense and a modern woman who totally bugs him. I laughed and was entertained and cannot wait to see what happens next and how the rest of the vampires meet their match. Had to keep reading to see what was going on.
