Less Broken (Project Shadow Guardian Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 31 ratings

Theon
After I trusted the wrong person, I ended up in a giant mess and clueless how to get out of it alive. I should have been hesitant to let anyone get close to me after that.
Then along came this mystery man. I couldn’t stop thinking about him, even though I knew nothing about him. Not even his name.
He came crashing into my life entirely too fast and I couldn’t run from him. Honestly, I didn’t want to. He was beautiful when he forgot the darkness that consumed him inside. I felt safe and protected with him.
Until I found out who he really was.
In one single night, he made me come alive, and then broke my heart.
As fast as he came into my life, he was gone, and all I wanted was to be in his arms again.

Cade
I was sent to watch over him from the shadows, not get close to him.
From the moment I stared into Theon’s eyes, I was caught. I knew I shouldn’t have approached him, but that was exactly what I did. I pushed myself into his life. I told myself it was to keep him safe, but deep down, I knew better.
Theon trusted me when he shouldn’t have. And I… I took that trust and ripped it to shreds.
If he knew my real connection to him and why I was there, I’d lose him. But I was too far in to turn the lie around.
Even knowing he’d never trust me again once he found out the truth.

Eve R. Hart has a habit of weaving stories laced thick with romance. They often bounce between awkward humor and dark themes- sometimes making a scary combination of the two. It doesn’t matter how it comes, she just wants love to win at the end of the day.

Eve lives on the coast of North Carolina with their partner in chaos, three beautifully nerdy kids, and a ridiculously sweet dog. When they need a break, you’ll find Eve lost in a book, playing board games with her family, or whipping up something crazy in the kitchen.

Less Broken is the first book in the new series and it’s MM. Eve R Hart sets up the stage for a new protection agency and these men are oh so hot.

Cade has demons from his military days and Theon’s the one who helps him calm those. This story has everything - sweet, suspense, funny and Eve knows how to bring on the heat. Love these characters and can’t wait for more

I really loved Theon and Cain. Cain was amazing and was struggling within his own head but was able to put it aside to help Theon out. Definitely had excitement even though at times I wanted to hit Theon upside his head he truly is a sweetheart! I loved Reed and can't wait to get his book. Great book and I definitely recommend it!

One of my favorite things about Eve R Hart's books is that they're stable. I know I can always count on her to deliver a beautiful story full of meaning and characters I'm connected with days after reading.

Less Broken is the story of Cade and Theon, another M/M that I am thrilled to share with you. When Cade's best friend tasks him to protect his brother, he never thinks he'll fall for Theon, but fall, he does. Cade is broody and tough, Theon is clumsy and awkward, but the two make sense. Both a bit broken, needing each other more than they realize.

This book had me smiling, swooning, and in suspense, all at once. Plus, the schmexy scenes were hot, hot, hot.

This is a new series for Eve and it does not disappoint. Cade is sent to check on his best friends brother Theon. When the two finally connect it is off the charts hot! I fell absolutely in love with Theon. He's so awkward it's adorable. I laughed out loud several times. Even if you have not read a MM romance please do not let the subject make you pass it by. It is a love story through and through. I am excited to see where this new series is going to take me.

Theon and Cade made for a great story. This story also made way for a whole new book world that I can’t wait to explore. New stories with all new characters!!! I’m so excited ❤️

Less Broken was just an okay read for me. I dont feel I connected with the characters or their story. This is just my opinion, whereas someone else could read it and love it. I do recommend giving it a chance. This one just didn't work for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, but still a good read
Reviewed in Australia on October 8, 2020
This wasn't as angsty as I was expecting. It ended up being a sweet read, with both our MCs finding what they needed in the other. From the blurb and the starting chapter, I expected Cane to be more broken than he was - to have some sort of PTSD. While he seemed to have was a mild case of depression and survivors guilt, it wasn't written in a way that really stood out, nor made him broken or consumed by darkness. I then figured it was Theon who must be our "broken" character, but even that situation didn't make sense to me, and definitely didnt make him broken. A little jaded and reluctant to trust maybe, but not broken. In the end, I read this story without looking for any darkness or angst and it worked better. So if you pick this up expecting there to be that aspect to the storyline you'll be disappointed. Read it as a contemporary MM romance and it will flow better. Even the whole "Project Shadow Guardian" was only introduced in the epilogue.

I'm still interested in reading the next books in the series and getting to know Reed better - hopefully the next books match their blurbs better.
