    This book is solid. It was interesting with a good mystery. I liked the leads but I felt the heroine could have done with a little more development. Beyond that both leads were likable and there wasn’t much angst between them. The book simply didn’t draw me in like other books by this author.

    I realize that Adele Clee may be one of my favorite historical romance authors. I normally go for the straightforward romance approach without all the unnecessary obstacles, but A. Clee finds a way to give romance and a mystery/thriller to be solved. Her storylines are all very unique, and they have a different twist even if there are some similarities. This story had great, well developed characters, as usual. There were the usual side characters from some of the previous series while introducing new ones that hint at more to come. Reid and Sophia were cute together, and I’m a sucker for a relationship that has honesty and trust at the foundation so it made their journey to love that much sweeter and believable. The book shows this core friendship that adds a few new friends as they give each other trust and help one another out. It shows that, sometimes, the family that really loves us may be the ones we have chosen. The book had real connections and a plot with depth while still showing the power and effects of falling in love. This was a book that I couldn’t put down so it was a quick read for me.

    What a fun and entertaining beginning to this new series! I loved how the story was enriched by familiar characters from previous books, and the introduction of new characters for future stories, adding layers of depth and continuity.

    The story opens with a presentation at The Burnished Jade Club, a safe haven for women and the pivotal setting where the couple meets. Miss Sophia Moorland is a determined young woman who is desperate to escape the oppressive plans of her stepparents. With skills in herbal healing, she seeks independence and a chance to shape her own future. Mr. Reid Gentry is a handsome and dedicated doctor entangled in a mystery involving his patients. His path crosses with Sophia's at the Club, where he is giving a presentation to the ladies, and she persistently questions his points.

    Sophia is determined to break free from her stepparents, leading her to Dr. Reid Gentry, who, after much convincing by Sophia, hires her as his herbalist. As Sophia navigates her newfound independence and grows as a healer, Reid is drawn into a complex and dangerous mystery involving his patients. Together, they face numerous twists and dangers, uncovering hidden secrets and forging a deep bond as they find solutions to both of their problems.

    The author, as always, delivers a well-written story filled with engaging characters, an intricate plot, and a delightful blend of romance, danger, and mystery. Sophia and Reid's journey is both heartwarming and thrilling, making it a standout beginning to this series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

    I always dive right in when I get my hands on a new Adele Clee book, & I couldn’t put this one down. A story about Reid Gentry & Sofia Moorland was teased in the last book, & this is even better than expected. Both Gentry & Sofia have some crazy stuff going on in their lives. What’s better than teaming up as they try to solve their problems @ the same time? Maybe falling in love along the way.
    They are a smart pair that respects each other a lot. Gentry comes to realizes Sofia has been disguising her best physical attributes, but knows her mind is her biggest asset. She soon discovers Gentry is much more than just a handsome, broody man of science.
    The mystery is intriguing, there’s plenty of entertaining banter, spicy scenes, suspects, & suspicious family members. I like that there are favorite characters from past books who pop up along the way. Thanks to the author for allowing me to read an advance copy.

    A mystery with romance is my favourite genre and this book ticks all the boxes for me! Miss Sophia Moorland is desperate to escape from her home, due to plans made for her by her step-parents. To support herself she needs a job. Sophia is a brave and caring person, she has abilities in healing, learned from her mother. Mr Reid Gentry, a handsome doctor, comes to talk to the ladies of The Burnished Jade club, and this is where they meet. Reid also has a mystery to solve, something that involves his patients. It does take a bit of working out, there are multiple possibilities. I enjoyed the fact that some of the characters from previous books make an appearance. There is danger and passion in this very engaging read.
