Let Love Live (The Love Series Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 856 ratings

Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a STANDALONE.

Who would you become if you lost the only person who ever mattered?

For twenty-six year old Dylan Hopkins, the answer is easy. He’s become no one. Memories of the happier times are all he has left as he finds himself meandering numbly through his now dull life. Though he cares about his work and family dearly, he’s yet to let himself find love again. Afraid of letting go of what he once had, Dylan chooses to keep his heart buried, where it belongs, having died a long time ago.

Conner Michelson is about to change everything Dylan knows. He’s every bit the bad boy persona - tatted up, ex-MMA fighter, but after an injury leaves him unable to fight, he has to rethink his goals. Having just opened his own gym, Conner can cross his first major life accomplishment off his very short list. Next up: find a man he can settle down with and build a family. Seems simple enough - a dream most people have, but when he meets Dylan, his carefree, easy-going life is thrown into a tailspin.

Determined to keep Dylan in his life, Conner vows to resurrect Dylan's long ago buried heart and let love live once more.

Let Love Live is a full length, standalone (within a series) novel of 101K words / approximately 400 pages.

Review

It is no secret Melissa Collins is one of my all time favorite authors. I love the way she builds her stories and the way she approaches romances. Let Love Live is no different. It is a story of loss and of grief before being brave enough to try again. This story is m/m and I highly recommend it. - Carey Heywood, NYT and USA Today Bestselling Author

When I first met Dylan in the first books, I was drawn to his sadness. I was drawn to his story. I was drawn to his hurt. I was just drawn to him and want to read about him and his life. Man, this book was sooo amazing. -
Angie at Twinsie Talk Book Blog

You'll *FEEL* so much, it's unreal! I can't help but use a cliché and say Melissa has an ability to paint a picture with words... Not just a 2D picture, but a 3D scene, a world that you can get lost in. The emotions are so deep, so raw. -
Ashley at Reviewing Romance

Melissa worked me over and left me emotionally sated and an emotional wreck in the best way possible. I fell in love with Dylan and Conner. Their story from beginning to end left me breathless. -

Melissa Collins has always been a book worm. Studying Literature in college ensured that her nose was always stuck in a book. She followed her passion for reading to the most logical career choice: English teacher. Her hope was to share her passion for reading and the escapism of books to her students. Having spent more than a decade in front of a classroom, she can easily say that it's been a dream.

Her passion for writing didn't start until more recently. When she was home on maternity leave in early 2012, she read her first romance novel and her head filled with the passion, angst and laughter of the characters who she read about it. It wasn't long before characters of her own took shape in her mind. Their lives took over Melissa's brain and The Love Series was born.

    I ove this book! Wowwwwww!!!!
I often find the more I enjoy a book the harder it is to articulate my review. Anything I say about Let Love Live will not prepare you for it. It is an experience. This book effected me tremendously. Melissa Collins did an exquisite job in telling a story with so many facets. A breathtakingly beautiful and tremulous journey from childhood to adulthood.... Discovering who you are, coming out, dealing with shame and ridicule, finding love and losing it. Although an emotional read, there are many fun moments that make you smile and sarcasm that will make you laugh out loud. It's flirty and dirty too!!

It is a special kind of book. One that buries itself into your heart and calls to your soul. Ever wish a book could swallow you whole, just so it could be your reality? Well, that's how I felt as I read this one. I loved the characters so much, I wanted to know them! This is my first book from Melissa and certainly not my last. It's evident, she writes from her heart and the stories come from her soul. While other authors write with logic and are analytical. Melissa pours her being into the pages. That is what makes this book so magical. It's tragically beautiful. The overwhelming love in this story encompasses you and takes you hostage. While the disparity and helplessness cripples you. I was completely over run with emotions. On quite a few occasions, I actually had to take a break and breathe.

The first part of the book is a coming of age story that nearly killed me! Two best friends Dylan and Shane realize they have feelings for each other... Dylan has a wonderful home life, while Shane's is a nightmare. His story will devastate you. Most of it was excruciating to read. The stuff he had to endure, no one should ever have to go through. Many times, I wanted to jump into the book and protect him. Between the pain and turmoil, an infinate love bloomed. During their intimately tender moments, I forgot, I was reading about two boys... It was just a story about two young people falling in love. You will fall head over heels right along with them!

The last half of the book takes a different turn into adulthood. That's where we meet Conner. I swoon just thinking about him. He is beyond amazing... I adored what he brought to the story! I have never fallen in love with so many boys in one book!! All of them very different but just as extraordinary.

I have read a few M/M books now. I honestly believe my heart and mind has growth exponentially since I started reading them. I see things so differently now. If you allow yourself to let go while reading, the rewards are confounding. I commend anyone who puts a voice to not only their plight but to their love!

Thank you Melissa Collins for writing this wonderful book, it will stay with me forever. Even if you aren't an M/M reader, you should take a chance with this one. It may change your mind and open your heart.

Let me start out by saying that Melissa is a fantastic author. I love her writing style. I'm definitely going to be reading more of her books.

    That being said...

When I saw I was heading into a Before part where she took you back to when the characters were 17, I almost closed the book and didn't finish. I'm not a huge fan of young adult, and I also had an idea of where the story was headed and I really didn't want to go there from a 17 year olds POV :( But something made me keep reading. Maybe because I knew there had to be an After part? As I kept reading and got more emotionally involved in Shane and Dylan, I dreaded what I knew was coming. The only reason I didn't...well, more like couldn't...break down into tears at the end of the Before part was because I had to put my kids to bed. I didn't need them seeing me crying and ask me all sorts of questions as to why, they are too young to understand.

It evoked too many feelings for me. <---The sign of a great writer and story teller.

For me, I totally could have done without the Before part. I know why it is there, but for me, being the total sap that I am, I REALLY could have done without it. I could have done without knowing Shane and all his personal struggles. I could have done without reliving his and Dylan's past. But that is just me and my inability to deal with such a heavy topic. Losing Shane killed me. It shattered my heart. I hate feeling that way about a book. Yeah, I know it's not always going to be all hearts and flowers, but don't make me like someone and then take them away, lol. I can't deal. I knew what I was getting into when I picked up the book, I knew something horrible happened just from the description. But I didn't know I was going to be reading about it first hand. I thought it was going to be just mentioned in passing, so that really threw me for a loop.

Note: The above is in no way a negative comment toward the story or the author, it's just my personal feelings and my inability to handle such a powerful emotion inducing event.

Now, the After and Forever Parts, those are more my style, lol. I loved Conner! I loved how Dylan was when he was with Conner. I loved that they were able to work through their difficulties and find the love that they both very much deserved. Melissa made everything better, she patched up my shattered heart and kissed away with boo-boos, so I can only forgive her for trying to give me a panic attack with the first half of the book, lol.

Melissa took on a HUGE feat with this story line. Not only did she tackle the struggles of two young gay men in a small town where being gay is not readily accepted, but she also brought light to another issue...abuse. There are many types of abuse. This story is about an abusive alcoholic father and how it can tear a family apart at the seams. She tackled these issues with care and love and understanding. She wrote the story in the most beautiful and sensitive way. And I believe that there may be people who will read this and find the courage they need to get help, whatever their situation may be. Melissa did a great job with this book and I have only the highest praise for her.

Melissa did a brilliant job on this book it was amazing to read and couldn't have been easy to write.

The entire Love Series is a brilliant compilation but book number 5 is hands down my favourite it was sad, funny, motivational and awe inspiring. Connor and Dylan are two strong men who have each had their ups and downs in their life with Dylan never really recovering from the death of his best friend and first love Shane after Reid convinces him to seek counselling to help move on and after a bad night between himself and Connor he has a break through and there is no stopping him.

Give this series a go, in my opinion you need to read from the start as some of the things that happen in this book will make more sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautifully written!

Oh Wow, Love Dylan, and although he has reconnected with his 'brother' Reid, he is still missing a huge part of his life. He doesn't let himself get close to anyone, after loosing his best friend and love of his life he cant seem to break down the walls and let anyone in.

This book was written over a couple parts! First part being his life as a teenager, hanging out with his best friend Shane and Shane's brother Reid. He slowly realizes that he is falling in love with his best friend, and slowly the love becomes reciprocal.

I was fab getting to know Shane, as we only really knew him as Reid's brother who committed suicide from Reid and Maddy's book Let Love in.

I have followed this series of books since Reid and Maddy, and have loved them all, the 'family' they have become are all caring, kind and loving. Possibly more than you get from bloody family.

I didn't really like Reid and Shane's mother, but ten we really only had a small snippet of her. She came across as a caring lady, but was very scared of their father; he is the most dreadful person on the planet, it would be nice to know he lived a dreadful existence after Reid's Mom left him.

Dylan and Shane, begin to accept who they each are and that they have more than friends feelings for each other, but they have to keep hidden the truth as Shane's father is a bigoted horrible man. It was lovely to find out that both Mom's knew that the boys felt that way about each other, and although not in black and while, I honestly think Reid knew what Shane and Dylan meant to each other.

Even though we knew what had happened to Shane, it was still a very heartbreaking scene to read, very well written.

Then we come back to the present, where Reid and Dylan having reconnected some time back, are now working together, and are also very good friends. They inspect a new Gym that has just opened, and its here that Dylan meets Connor, Hmmm mmmm mmmm what a dreamboat, having said that in fact they both are. I loved how well they got on having only just met. They were both unsure about moving on, both guys had suffered heart wrenching traumas in their lives, and both were keeping closed off! even though they both had relationships in the past, they wouldn't allow anyone in.

They began dating and but it was not smooth sailing, there were still obsticals to be faced, but together they began to work through what was their lives, building trust. They were the sweetest couple and the smexy scenes were beautifully written, full of passion, and soon love.

Rachel, Connor's sister came over as a lovely lady, very protective of her brother, but she soon warmed to Connor's new friends.

Although very brief it was nice to catch up with the others from the series. Hoping that this isn't the last!

    Tears and Smiles!

M/M is my favourite genre to read, by the right author. They give you amazing emotional stories. And this one nailed it.

This journey with Dylan was incredible. I was invested from page 1.

Incredible heart wrenching, beautiful story telling by the very talented Ms. Collins.

I cried, and cried some more. I smiled. And smiled and smiled.....

You don't need to read the other stories in the series before this. And actually, you shouldn't. They can be read after. You need the full effect of this heartwrenching journey with Dylan, with no information. It is beautiful. You won't regret taking a chance on this!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Heart Crushing first half
Reviewed in Australia on March 13, 2015
I reviewed my personal copy of Let Love Live for Wicked Reads.

The relationship between Dylan and Shane in the first half of this book is absolutely heart crushing. The story of how Dylan and Shane go from being best friends to lovers is of highs and lows and completely consumed me. Going in you know the ending of their relationship is going to be difficult but it still didn't prepare me. I sobbed so hard my husband came to make sure I was ok.

The second half of this book started well. I liked the way Dylan and Connor slowly started to come together, the author handled Dylan's emotions well. Unfortunately the further we go into their relationship the more clichéd it became and the final 10% of this book was overly sentimental and at 93% I nearly gave up.

In spite of that I'd say Let Love Live is an excellent book. This is the first book I've read by Melissa Collins and I'll definitely be reading more of her work.
