Love Him Like Water (Lombardi Family Book 1) Kindle Edition
In the heart of the city, alliances are forged in the shadows and sealed with vows.
Renzo Lombardi, the notoriously ruthless leader of an organized crime family, sees the chance to end the feud with his rivals, the Costa family, demanding a ceasefire in the form of a marriage contract.
Lore Costa, the shy, sweet princess of the Costa family, goes against her family’s wishes, and finds herself thrust into a new world when she agrees to marry Renzo, her secret infatuation.
It isn’t long before Lore discovers that the fairytale romance she’d dreamed of is anything but, as Renzo becomes consumed with the demands of his legacy, becoming a ghost haunting the shadows of Lore’s life, and leaving her adrift in a sea of loneliness.
By the time Renzo realizes his mistakes and tries to win back the heart of the woman he never knew he needed, whispers of greed and betrayal threaten to tear apart everything they have begun to hold dear, testing their fragile bonds amidst the treacherous currents of power and deception…

- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2024Love Him Like Water by Jessica Gadziala was like weaving together romantic moments, suspenseful opportunities and was so well written. I loved this story from the very first page until the end, enjoying this couples struggles and sensual moments.
The story follows the story of Lore Costa, who has had a secret crush on Renzo for most of her adult life after a chance meeting when she was younger. A rivalry between the Lombardi’s and the Costa’s would come to an end with a marriage between the two families. Jessica masterfully develops these characters, making the reader enjoy their good sides, as well as their bad sides, and hoping that they will overcome all the obstacles in their way.
Lore is portrayed as weak, when she just seems to accept things and go along with what is expected of her, but Jessica hints at a depth and strength in her character, standing up for what she believes in and letting the smaller stuff go. Renzo has never known love, he has never had a relationship, and struggles with what is expected of him as Lore’s husband. With his brute strength and determination, he rules his family with a strong hand, but naïve and unsure of his role in this relationship.
Jessica Gadziala has outdone herself with Love Him Like Water, delivering a story that is both entertaining and heartwarming. It's a must-read for anyone who loves romance with a touch of personal development and a whole lot of smexy moments.
⭐Five heart felt stars!⭐
- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2024An arranged marriage secures an alliance between warring Mafia families. Lore is a young, innocent Mafia princess and Renzo is the tough and hardened head of the Lombardi family. Lore volunteers to marry Renzo to end a feud between families, never telling anyone that she has had a crush on him since he rescued her as a teenager. She's shy and sweet and begins to captivate Renzo. He needs to learn to respect her and to prioritize their relationship. There's a lot of smoking hot passion. There's nothing especially unique about this book, but it's a real page turner and this opposites attract relationship is believable. I enjoyed watching Lore learn to stand up for herself and build relationships with the different mobsters.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2024Lore Costa, the sweet, somewhat timid mafia princess, had agreed to the marriage contract with Renzo Lombardi, a pact forged to bring a fragile cease-fire between their feuding families and to create unity amongst the mafia organizations. Though her family protested, Lore's heart had made its choice years ago, on a night when a young, starry-eyed girl was rescued by her knight in shining armor. That fleeting encounter left an indelible mark on her young heart, and she dared to dream of a life beside him.
But reality, as it so often does, had other plans. Renzo, with his chiseled jaw and eyes like dark embers, ruled his town with a cold, calculated grip. Yet, when it came to Lore, he seemed aloof. He observed her with a distant intensity, like a puzzle he couldn't quite solve, a treasure just out of reach. The spark between them was undeniable, but Renzo, for all his power and influence, battled to show his affection, unless it was in the bedroom.
Lore's life became a delicate dance with danger. Time and again, she found herself in dangerous predicaments. Each time, Renzo would swoop in, his resolve hardening, vowing to be a better husband, a better man. But promises are easy; understanding the path to fulfillment was an entirely different ordeal.
Deceit brewed within Renzo's organization, threatening to unravel everything he had built, and pulling him away from Lore. Was this sabotage a mere coincidence, or had Renzo taken his eyes off the organization and the main prize?
Lore clung to her hopes, to the memory of her knight. She believed in Renzo, believed in the man she saw glimpses of beneath his stoic facade. Yet, with each passing day, the question lingered: could Renzo truly learn to be the husband she needed, or would their marriage be another casualty of the war between their worlds? This was an interesting read, as it was more character-driven than plot. The plot ran in the background for me, and the focus was on the attraction between two very different people, one hard, and one sweet and soft. I enjoyed the secondary characters and felt they helped move the pacing of the story. Overall, an enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2024I have read dozens of this author's books but this one of the top three from Gadziala. I enjoyed everything in this book. The characters, the heartbreak, the storyline, the numerous steamy scenes and building a once in a lifetime kind of love. Also, the secondary characters add so much to the story and are extremely likeable. It would great if this mafia family gets their own series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2024This book didn’t have a lot of detail. It felt a little like it started in the middle of a story. I wish for more everything. Especially talking between the characters. Lore was really not my type of FMC. She was a doormat that forgave too easily. But despite all this the book kept me interested so I can’t say it was a complete mess.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2025I loved everything about this arranged marriage story. It was so well written and full of emotion. I read it all in one sitting. It was just so good.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2024To say I have been waiting for this book would be an understatement. And I LOVED it! The forced/arranged mafia marriage. I loved the side characters that have so much potential for spin offs - Cinna and Dav (yes please!), Elian, Nico, Coal and even Cage. Coal definitely made an impression. As did Cinna and Dav (too bad ass Lombardi capos).
Lore was so hopeful and naive about her marriage and what her life would look like after marrying Renzo. Renzo was just an idiot. He didnt think he had to change anything or actively invite his wife after he was married. A lot of angst. Lore put up with a lot until she broke. And I don't blame her. I'm glad Renzo realized his mistakes and fixed them. Loved that it's dual POV and has a HEA of course.
Can't wait for more from this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can’t always be sunshine.
I loved this book. It’s not always happiness and a quick fix, but a long drive to get to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an emotional rollercoaster
This is the story of Renzo Lombardi & Lore Costa.
I’ve been dying for this book since reading about her volunteering to marry him in Woman on the Jury.
I cried at the interaction between her and her eldest brother, at her wanting to be loved, it was emotional throughout. I loved seeing other characters from previous books too.
I think this one is definitely in my top 5 read of the year, it was just so blooming good.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book
Gosh! I love this book.
I love this flawed and not at all perfect but real characters.
In the beginning, I hated both main characters.
At first glance, he appeared to be quite self-centered, arrogant, and completely absorbed in his own thoughts and world.
Also, at first glance, she is a little girl who actually lives more in her own fantasy world, or in her books, than in the real world. She doesn't even notice what is happening around her. Since she grew up in a mafia family, she should know how this world works, so it's all just a little girl's dreams.
Yeah, at first glance...
I was angry with him, I was angry with her.
I was most angry with her for not opening her mouth and simply making things clear.
He was completely helpless, had no idea what was going on with her and his family didn't help at all because they were all waiting for no idea what, that he comes up with the reality by himself because he's the mafia boss?
So, in the beginning, it was complete chaos and two mentally and emotionally helpless people who were thrown together and forced to live with each other.
Yeah, at the beginning...
But then I learned about their past, got to know their demons and tried to put myself in their shoes, and, of course, fell in love with them.
I love this raw, real, and gripping story.
A mafia romance with all the brutal truths about the mafia world and life.
Jessica Gadziala is one of my all-time favorite authors, and this book is one of my favorite book of hers ;-)
When you like mafia romances, this book is a must-read for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars so good
This author never disappoints. Really enjoyed this book. The characters were great, especially Lore- soft but with a core of steel. Great fairytale☺️

4.0 out of 5 stars Intense emotions
Lore has had a crush on Renzo for years, but tells no one, seemingly entering into an arranged marriage with him to make peace between their families, but having her own hopes/dreams.
Renzo does not understand relationships and is rightfully called out as being emotionally abusive towards her. Frankly, I expected more groveling given the extent of his screw-ups with her. I also didn't like how YOUNG Lore is in this story.
For those reasons, I gave it 4 stars. The author writes well and is always compelling, however.
