Limelight (The Hold Me NSB Series Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 299 ratings

“A great tortured rockstar read. Highly recommend!" - Colleen Hoover

I’m unpredictable.

A genius, an underachiever.

I’m the song, the voice, the passion, the pain. The front man and the failure.

I make music because it’s what I am. The music chose me. I’m its victim not its gift.

Mila Taylor destroyed my career. Ruined my life. Pushed me from the shadows and exposed my lies. Her scathing reviews have destroyed lesser artists, and now her fire is aimed at me.

And Mila—she loves to watch me burn.

Our volatile attraction is more than heated anger and haunted lust. She’s fire. I’m gasoline.

But the part we never saw coming?

Sometimes it takes a spark to slay the darkness.

Limelight is an emotional enemies to lovers rockstar romance. This book addresses the issues of addiction, anxiety, trauma and loss in a compassionate, realistic manner. For a full list of content notices please visit my website.

strikingly raw; and insanely sexy. I'm in awe of, and in love with, Limelight...and Aly." - Kim Holden, bestselling author of Bright Side

Aly SHINES in this simply stunning and deeply emotional book. Limelight is a profoundly moving tale of an up-and-coming, yet woefully tormented, rock star. This story is as poignant as Stiles' writing is poetic." - Beth Flynn, USA Today Bestselling Author

angsty, dark, gorgeous love story that simply leaves you breathless." - Sunniva Dee, bestselling author

"Gah. This book. THIS BOOK. I can't remember the last time a book made me ugly cry like Limelight did.
A truly incredible story!" - Author Jamie Schlosser

"Limelight is raw, real, and intimate. Alyson Santos' masterful writing expertly balances heartbreak and hope.
Take everything you thought you knew about rocker books and toss it out the window. This is how it should be done." - Author Hazel James

Wow... Night Shifts Black was my first taste of Alyson Santos. Considering that Limelight is the fourth book of the series it goes without saying that I spent a week devouring this series. From the first book to this one I have been amazed at the lyricism of Ms. Santos prose, her character building and the extremely difficult task of taking very heavy subject matter and making it so clear.
I loved the previous three books, but Limelight is now permanently lodged in my heart. Wow. Just wow.
Limelight is Jesse and Mila's story. If you've read the prior three books you are familiar with the gifted artist that is Jesse Everett. Addiction, depression, abuse beyond measure and devastating loss make for a difficult read but I never felt that Ms Santos wrote simply for the angst. This is all Jesse. It also brilliantly showcases that addiction and mental illness encompasses everyone around the person suffering it. As his brother, this is just as much Parker's story. As it is his band brothers, Derrick and Reece. EVERYONE suffers in the spiral of broken lives.
Jesse isn't just a gifted musician, he is almost a savant. He is beyond description with his gift which also happens to be his curse. I love how he always sees color surrounding Mila, which led me to believe that he experienced synesthesia. People with perfect pitch often see/hear sound with color. Another gift. Another curse.
The secondary story is Limelight's climb to the top only to have it crash around them. Hurtful words written by Mila is Jesse's easy excuse for blame. In the midst of his spiral and numbing chemical delusions he finds it easier to assign the blame to someone else instead of taking responsibility. Such an addiction cliché, but so true. I, however, never felt that Jesse saw himself as a victim.
Ultimately, Limelight is the story of a band on the cusp of greatness. A band with a genius front man. A band struggling with the demons that the front man surrounds himself with. It's also the story of strength, despair, pain, love, second, and third and fourth chances. And it is so much about grace, forgiveness and redemption.
I loved this book, and I think, no I KNOW, that Jesse's story will stay wrapped in my heart for a while.
They don't happen often, but I love a good book hangover. Limelight got me so drunk.
    Kudos, Ms. Santos.

Alyson Santos is killing me. Killing me in only the best way. Alyson Santos stories are real to the point where I am on my knees. I am invested in her character driven narrative to the point I feel it is really real. These powerful stories can only be written by someone who knows this world well and has seen what happens when you are navigating the excesses of this world. The layers to Limelight are such that I am being sucked down deeper and deeper with each chapter. I am sucked down to the point where I feel as if I will not be able to take another breath. Each character is essential and is carefully crafted and fully realized. The writing is tight and literally whirls like a cyclone. In the center of this cyclone a group of strong players exist. I would say we have a strong couple but the fact is that the "secondary" characters are also primary players. This is new for me. I can always identify a primary couple and clear secondary characters but that is not the case here. This book is amazing, it is tragic, it is lyrical, it is magical, and at it's core it is a love song. We are on a journey with books by Alyson Santos and we are often exhausted when finished. Only books I consider essential bring me to this point. This is really a masterpiece and Aly's writing just keeps getting better and better. Thank you for allowing me into your magical world Aly. You have never disappointed me! denise bailey

I’m going to preface this by saying this is not my kind of book. I love a good angsty romance, ones with pain and pleasure, ones that make you cry from laughter, ones that make you think you may be a bit twisted because you enjoyed it so much: those are my romances. This book was an emotional upheaval that took every fiber of my being to finish reading. The emotional, physical, and verbal abuse that Jesse Everett suffered that led him down a path of self-destruction to function was too much for me to handle. I had a ball of anxiety in my throat every line that I read.

That being said, this book was so beautifully written. When I started reading, and realized how self-destructive Jesse was, I wanted to cry. I hate drugs, hate reading books with them in it, but I kept reading Jesse’s struggle. I was sucked in to the Jesse whirlpool, cheering Mila for sticking up for herself and for Jesse, cursing Parker because he didn’t understand, crying for Jesse every time he interacted with Jonas.

The songs Jesse wrote, the songs in his head, make my heart ache. I wish I could hear the songs being performed, but I don’t think they’d ever live up to what’s in my head. I do not have a musical bone in my body, but in my head, the emotions in the song? No one could do that justice.

Seriously, the only reason this has four stars and not five are because of totally personal reasons. I didn’t enjoy reading this novel, but I don’t think you’re supposed to. I devoured it, even as I begged myself to stop reading it. I was on an emotional roller coaster with Jesse, and neither one of us could get off. Alyson Santos did an amazing job writing this novel, and this was the first one I’ve written of her, but I don’t think my heart can take any more of her books (at this moment. give me a month I will probably try again).

I am an emotional wreck after reading this, so I will be reading the funniest, most light hearted novel I can find. Something to make me smile. I so need it right now.

EXTREME emotional warning and every trigger warning I could throw out there. If your heart can take this book, read it. I’m not as strong as Jesse, Alyson or any of the characters in the book.

Ugh this book. I say this with every release, but Alyson’s books just get better and better. Just when I think she can’t gut me any more, she goes right ahead and does it again. Bigger and better.
Limelight is the perfect story of a tormented but incredibly talented and genius-like rocker. Every feeling is real, I lived it as though it was me. My heart was torn out and ripped apart, the darkness in Jesses soul was palpable. I felt it with every word. I smiled a lot. I cried a lot. I felt sadness with him but also felt him light up. His journey is one of hardship, he loses himself and totally finds himself. I was there!!
I loved the return of some of our faves and also the newbies, I may have a massive soft spot for D!!
    Overall, this book is everything.

Alyson Santos’ NSB books captivated me so thoroughly that I ended up doing almost nothing else but reading about these complex musicians and the ones who love them for the past 3 days. Sad that there’s only one more book to go!

I have been listening to the Audiobooks in the NSB series and each and every single one has been brilliant. The characters are full of scares and pull you into their world. The narration has been superb. But Limelight, my god, this book, WOW. Alyson .. this book is so well written, it made me cry. And my god, Zachary Webber. The Narrator. Truly the best book I have even listened too. Well done to you both. Limelight is book 4 in the series, but can be a standalone. Highly recommend reading the series to get the most from the adventure of NSB crew.

This book pulls at every emotion, book four in the Night Shifts Black series, and they just keep getting better.

Front man Jesse Everett is a tortured soul, supremely talented but with no sense of control over that talent. His work consumes him, it takes so much from him and leaves him spiralling. Mila Taylor has ruined his life, but she might just be the only person who knows how to reach him.

This is not what you call an easy read, I felt everything for Jesse as I watched his struggle, Alyson has a way of writing about the difficult subjects of mental health, addiction and trauma that is so raw and beautiful. Its compelling.

Prepare to have your heart broken and your soul stolen. This is a must read!
