Disguised Murder and Community Spirit in Little Mallow: A Little Mallow cosy mystery (Little Mallow cosy mysteries Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 25 ratings

Two murders, a party of disguised suspects, and a seaside village full of cake.

Who's sending anonymous invitations to a party in a building which doesn't yet exist? Why insist guests come in disguise? Police Officer Crystal Clere is only mildly curious, as she has a murder to solve. And cakes to bake, romances to fix, friends and an elderly relative in need of help.

When the new hall is built, and Crystal belatedly receives an invitation, there's an opportunity to solve some of her problems. Wearing a fake moustache she's having fun and making progress, until one of the guests is murdered.

Community spirit is strong in Little Mallow and everyone seems to be involved. Half are suspects – all with alibis. The many witnesses don't know what they saw. Crystal is asking, and being asked, countless questions. Who planned and paid for the party? Are they the killer? Is there a link with the first murder? Nobody is giving her answers, but she's assisted by an extremely unofficial sidekick and her friends are happy to supply far-fetched theories.

Can Crystal Clere see through all the distraction to bring love and justice to Little Mallow?

Book 1 in the Little Mallow cosy mystery series.

Crystal's only a trainee detective, but she asks all the right questions and spots enough clues to point the way to the murderers. She's smart, observant, and very good at adding up bits and pieces of information. As expected from Patsy, there are also several very interesting peripheral characters, and at least three, maybe four beginning romances. The book moves along at a good pace and was a joy to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Mallow seems to be an interesting place to live...

Crystal is a very keen student police officer. She gets embroiled in two crimes encouraged by her mentor and the DI from CID. There is a wealth of clues and trails of evidence... but to me, everyone, excluding Crystal, was under suspicion until the penultimate chapter — the way to go for a good cosy!
This has been thoroughly researched and we are privy to the goings-on with the two crimes as Crystal uncovers more information.
Patsy's humour comes through in bursts throughout, notably some references to old TV shows and Adam's disparate conversations. She must also have some inside information about how school teachers operate!

I was so excited to find a well written, warm hearted, crime series had been written by Patsy Collins, set in the area I live and love. Patsy is so good at creating characters who you care about and so you want to engage in their stories, as well as concocting a darn good mystery to solve. It kept me guessing till the end.
I can't wait to read the next book!
