Losing Time (Lost Time, Book 1): A Time Travel Romantic Suspense Series Kindle Edition

3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 210 ratings

Nicola Claire's captivating new time travel romance series introduces an exciting and adventurous world, set in multiple times and multiple places, packed full of sizzling action and heart-racing escapades, where time once lost can never be found again.

“That is what we do, Miss Wylde. We mend Time. Catch it. Stitch it. Make it. We’re Surgeons of Time. And you’re about to go where no layperson has ever gone before. So trust me, when I say I am responsible for you. And believe me, when I say your presence alone could fracture or restore Time.”

Mourning the loss of her parents, Mimi Wylde embarks on a holiday of a lifetime with her twin sister. But when breaking the rules ends up shattering her understanding of the world around her, Mimi has to draw on more courage than her nickname, Mouse, would attest to. Losing everything she holds dear and challenging all that she believes to be true, Mimi faces up to a future that is tangled in a past too frightening to comprehend.

At the Royal Academy of Time Surgeons, things happen for a reason, even in their dreams. There are consequences to surfing time waves. So when Dr Jack Evans inadvertently picks up a woman from the past, he knows immediately that Time has been tampered with. It doesn’t help that he’s been dreaming of the girl even before she arrives, and when she does, she proves to be everything he'd hoped for.

Time changes in the blink of an eye, and as Mimi and Jack chase down history, trying desperately to stop catastrophic oncoming events, they both start realising that dreams are always meant come true. Even the nightmares.

From the Author

So, this is a new series. Most of you know by now, I tend to go where the inspiration takes me, and man-oh-man, did I get inspired by this one! I write what feels right and Losing Time felt mighty right while I was writing it, I tell you. :)

Mimi and Jack are my new favourite couple. I had so much fun with these guys and so much fun with the world they lived in. Science-fiction has been a favourite genre of mine since I was a little girl, and time travel just adds an extra layer on top of all that fantasy. There are no limits. No time period constraints, no out-there and in-your-face adventure restrictions, no topic that can't be undertaken. It's a smorgasbord of delicious story-making morsels to pick from, and I intend to dive on in and have my fill.

Of course, there's romance. When is there not in one of my books? And I fell for Jack, big time! (Excuse the pun!) But, holy heck has he got his hands full with Mimi. ;)

So, this is the start of a new adventure, the start of a new romance, and the start of a new series.

I hope you love it as much as I came to love Mimi and Jack. It's been a riot.

♥ Nicola

4.5 Stars! Time travel has never looked so good! Losing Time is the first book in the all new series, Lost Time. The possibilities are endless in this Sci-Fi romance, as we follow Mimi and Jack on thrill ride through time and space.

Summary:
Urged and escorted by her twin sister, Mimi Wylde is on her dream vacation in hopes of turning her mind and heart from the loss of their parents. When her much more adventurous and spontaneous sister breaks the rules in order to help her realize her dreams, Mimi’s understanding of Science and it’s capabilities are forever fractured. In the blink of an eye, Mimi loses the one person keeping her tethered and gains knowledge of a world much more complex than she could ever imagine. Thrust upon Dr. Jack Evans and his time-traveling team, Mimi must pull up her courage to face a new kind of future that’s embroiled in the past. Jack’s job is to mend time. Stitch it. Fix it. The Royal Academy of Time Surgeons understand that there are consequences to surfing through time. Accidentally picking up a woman from the past has the potential to wreak havoc on both the past and future, so Jack must do what he can to mend what he has helped tear. Unfortunately, Jack’s resolve to return Mimi to her own time slowly crumbles when he realizes she’s the woman from his dreams. But time is running out as an old adversary hops through time, forcing their hand to his own end with Mimi’s sister is caught somewhere in the middle. Can Jack and Mimi realize their dreams before they become nightmares?

Of course, I was nervous to start this book for two reasons. One, it’s a brand new series and I have very high expectations for my number one authors. And two, Science Fiction is not a genre I read a lot of, so I was worried it wouldn’t hold my attention. Almost immediately after starting the book, my worries flew out of mind, forced out by the heart-thumping possibilities of time travel and the awesome Star Trek vibe I got. I adored Mimi. Although we meet her not long after her heart has been broken and she still grieves, she’s a very compelling character. Her intelligence is apparent, and despite her nickname of Mouse, she’s feisty when she needs to be. As someone who asks a lot of questions, Mimi’s tendency to question everything gave me a connection to her, too. Now Jack. He swept me clean off my feet. He’s highly intelligent, fit, strong, and protective. He was also very secretive. Most of this was due to his job, but it was still very frustrating. I don’t feel like we got to know as much about Jack as we did Mimi, but we have two more books to learn more. I loved Mimi and Jack together. Although their relationship has an element of it being destiny that throws them together, it is a gradual build-up between them. Strong feelings are felt, but it never felt rushed or too instant. The time travel component was often-times confusing and very complicated for me, especially at the beginning. With so many rules, the fragility of time, and it’s many consequences when tampered with, it could get quite murky when trying to work it through in my mind. That said, everything is explained more than once, and I felt like I got a better handle on it as the story progressed. It actually felt like I was learning right alongside Mimi. Supporting cast was good, too. Of course I have my favorites, and my not-so-favorites. Lol. I also have one or two I’m wary of, not quite trusting them fully.Everyone, though, was fun to read, and had something to bring to the story. Overall, it was a story I didn’t want to put down. The romance was sweet with a hint of steam, the banter between characters was engaging and entertaining, the story was creative and fresh, and the plot twist blew me away, and has me impatient for more. Nicola’s books always draw me in, and it’s not just due to the romance. I love that her books have an element of true history backing it up. While reading, I found myself looking up different things, and the amount of history (about NASA) was fantastic. Not only does it whet my appetite for the past, but it provides a solid foundation for the story to build on, making it more realistic. This was a job very well done. I’m eagerly awaiting and excited for book two in the series to see where time takes us. ♡

This book started out very confusing but, as it went on it started to flow better where you could understand what was going on. It was a good story, after you sort through the first and figure out what is going on. Very good characters and I wanted to see what happens with Mimi , her family and Jake. I was upset that it ended on a cliffhanger and am ready to read what happens next.

I absolutely loved the plot in this book, it was a real page-turner. However, it lost 2 stars. One because the author couldn't go even a page it seems without the use of the "F" word. It was so shocking sometimes as it didn't fit with the storyline, it was just there. And, the missing words and words misused were on every page, I spent all my time putting those words in so I could read it and figuring out what word was supposed to be there, granted not a really difficult task for me but still annoying. And the worst thing ever! A cliff-hanger! I will read the next book if I can afford it but that's probably going to be the last from this author because I can't stand to be strung along unexpectedly. It's an unfair tactic to sell more books. Again, I loved the storyline. I stayed up really late trying to finish. It's a good thing I didn't get to the cliff-hanger ending until this morning, I probably would have thrown my Kindly across the room and broken it. It's a shame, I would have read them all, but not under coercion.

Story was interesting. The writing and grammar good. The characters we well developed. No sex scenes. This book was entertaining and a light read. The only issue is it wasn't complete. Sadly It ended in a cliffhanger.

This is a must read. Wonderful book filled with incredible detail, adventure, humor and romance. Nail biting suspense and action. I purchased this book and I was given a free copy by the author in exchange for my honest opinion. This book is very deep- not a shallow, quick easy read. Very vivid world building and likeable characters. An exciting story and no bedroom scenes. Refreshing!! Part of the story is resolved in this book- it is a series - so not all situations were resolved. I prefer stand alone stories- yet I still give this story five stars. I am anxious for book two....

O,K, I gotta say the book was excellent, Very well developed plot and characters, I was very into the story but that's where I have a problem, why oh why do authors think it is ok to end a book without an ending? So we will read the next? If we like your writing we readers WILL read your other books!!! Cliff hangers are NOT ok!!!
Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2018
I hate cliffhangers! This book was definitely written in order to sell the next in the series. It is NOT a stand alone novel. A total waste of time unless you plan to buy the next book. Since there is only one other book in the series, so far, I wouldn't be surprised if the next one was a cliffhanger, too. There ought to be a disclaimer about it not being a stand alone.

This is a story with time travel, suspense, and futuristic aspects in it. There is little romance and little feeling of completion. The story just stops and you're urged to continue reading of Jack and Mimi in the next book. It was exciting, full of action, and fast paced, but the philosophy behind the time travel was complex.

I'll start with a confession - I didn't want to like this book. Time travel and sci-fi are not my 'thing', these genres normally leave me cold, rolling my eyes and scoffing. However, in a haze one day, I clicked on the buy it now button on Amazon after going through Bookbub to get this book for free. Well, I'm glad that I did! This story almost made me feel like I could understand science lol. The story line was paced well, it had tension, romance and comedy all rolled into one great little package. The only thing that stopped me giving it 5 stars was the fact that the book needs a good editor to give it a going over.

I can't wait for the next book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the first in a series but the beginning of a serial
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 16, 2018
It's difficult to review it thoroughly without plot spoilers but I loved the first 65% or so, it flagged a bit and then finally the plot picked up into a frenzy... before just stopping right on the edge of a cliff. None of the major issues were resolved, they were all left hanging in the air. Even the main romantic relationship, which began with some great banter, only developed in dreams. And to make it worse, the second book has yet to be published so we can't even order it straight away and continue with it.

There are some books where you have to reserve judgement until the end when all is revealed and you see whether the, until then, unexplained things were really clever or whether you were just being strung along. In this book, we are denied the opportunity of making that judgement and we don't know in how many more sequels it will be dangled before us, just out of reach. I'm not inclined to take the risk.
