I've lost myself in these mountains for a reason.

I knew when I looked at the cover of this book that it was going to be special. And wow was I right! Don had been severely injured while he served in the military. He chose to live in the mountains far away from people. Except for his haircut appointments. And it's during this time he sees Lily working in the candy shop. Don decides to get a gift for his barber from the candy shop. I loved the chemistry and the instant connection that took hold of Don and Lily. Lily knew right away how she felt about Don. And even though Don tried to fight it, his heart wanted Lily. This is my first time reading a book from Jessa Joy. And I love how she put this story together. Don and Lily's love journey was sweet, tender, hopeful, passionate, honest and beautiful. I was so happy to see them get their HEA. And the epilogue was AMAZING!! This book is definitely a keeper and so worth reading.

This book is a part of the Heart of a Wounded Hero series. It's a fast-paced and standalone book that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
This is a story about how a wounded veteran (H) suffering from PSTD can learn to cope with the help of a special woman (h).
Read to find out what happens. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and this review is my own opinion.

seeing past the scars

Short sweet steamy read. Don is a wounded vet with PTSD and self esteem issues. After sleepwalking during a nightmare in which he scared his brother in law, Don secludes himself in the mountains. He is afraid he will hurt someone he cares about so he lives on the mountain just him and his dog. On one of his rare trips to town, he meets Lily and suddenly he wonders if maybe he can have something more. Lily is like a ray of sunshine in the midst of Don’s darkness. When she looks at him, she sees him and not his scars.

Joy writes wonderful characters with a heartwarming plot. She touches on the struggles veterans face trying to reintegrate back into civilian life. I would like a little more build up between Don and Lily but this is a short insta-love story A great short read.
