4.4 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

[CONGRATULATIONS, INHABITANTS OF EARTH X32175! YOUR WORLD HAS BEEN SELECTED TO BE THE 36TH FLOOR OF THE DEIWOS TOWER!]

The godly society, The Deiwos Clan, has obtained a Tower, and like all other gods across the multiverse, they are looking for exceptional players who will provide them with Karma.

Oblivious to the machinations of the gods, Langa Zulu, a young South African athlete with his whole life ahead of him, chooses to become a player so he can climb the Tower and return to Earth. Inside the Tower, every floor is a world of its own, with various challenges posed to players as they struggle to earn Karma and gain the attention of the gods. First, however, he must earn enough Karma in the tutorial to enter the Tower.

When he is faced with corrupted monsters, a mysterious demigod, a mind-controlling dark elf, and someone needing his protection, Langa wishes he’d taken better care of his mental health. Even so, he is fascinated with these new worlds, filled with divine wars, growing friendships, betrayal, loss, revenge, and faith in something greater than himself.

This book is perfect for fans of Role Playing Games, Video Game Mechanics, LitRPG, Progression Fantasy along with African Fantasy, Mythology and Folktales.

Rhea Zulu is a health professional from South Africa who fell in love with the fantasy genre after discovering the magical world of Harry Potter as a child, finding peace in the stories of heroes and villains. During high school, she won multiple story writing competitions and began writing poetry and short stories for fun.

When she was a child, her family would leave their cosy city home and go visit their extended family in the rural areas every school holiday. Every night, after a hard day of farming, they would all sit around the fire outside their muddy hut and someone would tell a story, a folktale or a myth. Those are some of her favourite childhood memories. As an adult, she read a lot of Korean webnovels, and she always loved how much they incorporated Asian Myths and Legends into their stories.

She wanted to do the same and share stories from her homeland, her Africa, with the Fantasy and LitRPG community.

Nowadays, after a day of helping patients at work, Rhea relaxes by creating fantasy and kingdom-building stories of worlds beyond her humble upbringing. These stories centre on South African characters and reflect their struggles and triumphs in fantasy worlds inspired by African myths and legends.

Lightning Lancer: Path of Lightning launches a promising saga where African folklore meets divine politics and high-octane action. It’s an immersive, fast-paced read perfect for fans of LitRPG, underdog heroes, and cross-cultural epic fantasy. Whether you come for the lightning battles or the spiritual undertones, you’ll stay for Langa’s evolution.

There is a lot going on in this book and it is nice to see stories written with different mythologies from the usual ones that are put out.

Really cool and unique ideas that felt fresh and different. the cool concept and exciting story made it a great read. I definitely recommend it if you like LitRPG and want something that feels a little different

I wanted to like this more than I did. Langa was an engaging MC, but the narrative dragged on. I honestly felt that this book could have ended satisfactorily at about the 45% mark and I started skimming large portions after that. Perhaps the story will improve now that the basic world building has been set, so I do plan on checking out the next book, but…

I started reading since the beginning on RR. Great characters, but you will notice some of them make really dumb decisions.

Lightning Lancer is a very dynamic and adaptable champion that offers a special combination of burst damage, mobility, and strategic play to the game. He is an excellent danger in both offensive and defensive situations because of his great mobility and lightning-fast attacks, which enable him to close gaps with opponents rapidly. He can unleash powerful combinations that can quickly change the outcome of a battle thanks to his kit, which frequently mixes electric-themed skills with rapid lances or spears. What really makes Lightning Lancer unique is his versatility; he can be constructed and used to fit your style, whether you favor smart poke and kite tactics or aggressive dive tactics. His visual effects and sound design enhance the thrilling experience of controlling such a quick and powerful hero, and his skill ceiling is high, rewarding players who perfect his timing and location. All things considered, Lightning Lancer is a fighter who commands respect on the battlefield, and becoming proficient with him may offer a really fulfilling experience full of fast reflexes, cunning, and thrilling battle scenes.
