Matching Mr. Darcy: A Darcy and Elizabeth Variation (Sweet Possibilities Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 335 ratings

He might not want to dance with her, but Darcy's about to meet his match.

Some people adapt easily to new surroundings and find delight in meeting new people. Fitzwilliam Darcy is not one of them. Being put on display in a room full of strangers is enough to make him quite disagreeable.

Therefore, when he attends the Meryton Assembly and his patience is pushed beyond what he can tolerate, Darcy replies harshly to his gregarious friend's insistence that he asks Miss Elizabeth Bennet to dance. Unfortunately for her,

Elizabeth is within hearing distance of Darcy's refusal. Insulted and more than a little vexed, she is determined to have as little to do with him as she can and to push him towards his amiable friend's sister when being in one another's presence cannot be avoided.

When Elizabeth calls Darcy out for his offensive words and intimates that he is ungentlemanly, he is more intrigued than provoked. He is also determined to prove the lady wrong and sets a course to do just that.

While Darcy seeks opportunities to prove to Elizabeth that he is indeed a gentleman, Elizabeth attempts to be rid of him until his company becomes more desirable than that of a long-time friend and hopeful, though very unwanted, suitor.

Jealousy is never pretty, and a spurned suitor is not always kind or wise. When secrets are revealed and explanations are wanting, it looks as if the burgeoning love between Elizabeth and Darcy is destined to be snuffed out almost before it has begun. Unless, of course, a meddling matchmaker can pull off a well-timed miracle.

Matching Mr. Darcy is the first book in a new collection of Darcy and Elizabeth variations from Leenie Brown called Sweet Possibilities. If you like Hallmark-style romances set in the Regency era, then you'll enjoy this story where love triumphs over a poor first impression, injured pride, and a jealous lover.

So, settle into your favourite reading spot, grab your copy of Matching Mr. Darcy, and indulge in the sweet romantic possibility of a refused introduction leading to happily ever after.

Leenie Brown's heroes, when growing up, were authors, and the worlds they painted with words were (and still are) her favourite playgrounds! Now, as an adult, she spends much time in the regency world, playing with the characters from her favourite Jane Austen novels and those of her own creation.

When she is not traipsing down a trail in an attempt to keep up with her imagination, Leenie resides in the beautiful province of Nova Scotia with her two sons and her very own Mr. Brown (a wonderful mix of all the best of Darcy, Bingley and Edmund with a healthy dose of the teasing Mr. Tilney and just a dash of the scolding Mr. Knightley).

You can find Leenie on the web at www.leeniebrown.com.

Yes, this was a very sweet story. Well, there was some misunderstandings but no real villains except for a mention of Wickham. But ODC made it through with their HAE.

I assume this is part of a series (as “Book 1” would indicate), but the story ended too abruptly to suggest any subjects in a sequel.

I really liked these versions of Mrs Bennet and Mary; unfortunately, Richard’s presence, welcome though it always is, is superfluous. Perhaps if we’d been given any inklIng of a sequel, his role would make more sense.

This is a fun loving story! Darcy is refused a dance, the audacity of Elizabeth to
refuse the Master of Pemberly! Well that was love at first sight on his part. Now the hard part is to get her to fall in love with him. But wait he has competition! He is in unfamiliar territory!

This is a lovely story of the difficult courtship of Elizabeth and Darcy. Elizabeth has another suitor, a friend who is determined to take their friendship to a lifelong commitment.

I hope you will enjoy reading this story as much as I did.

*No spoilers included* A lovely story with surprising differences from canon in the personalities of the main characters. Likewise, the omissions were welcome: no Lady Catherine, no Mr. Collins and Wickham only mentioned without being present. The new secondary characters were quite amusing. The timeline was a bit compressed, but that did not detract from the storyline. It would have been nice to have a more complete resolution of the Jane and Bingley secondary story.

A perfect selection for an afternoon or evening when one just wants to relax, smile or giggle a bit, sigh a bit for the building romance, and all around feel refreshed at the end of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Dialogue
Reviewed in Canada on July 15, 2020
Some JAFF writers write well, and in some cases, even excellent narrative style—but for me, I’m always left feeling a bit disappointed in the lack of conversation. When a book has great dialogue among the characters, it bring them and the story to life for me. That’s what’s missing in the narrative style. Leenie Brown does dialogue so well. She has written many Austenesque variations, mostly Pride and Prejudice, which are my favourite. I have only read a few of them, but am making it my goal to read more. If I’m not mistaken, she loves the art of conversation too.

In this variation, I loved the character portrayals which are beautifully developed and shown to us through the great and at times very amusing dialogue I mentioned above. The conversation among Colonel Fitzwilliam, Bingley and Darcy had me grinning from ear to ear. So fun! Mary and Charlotte were very good in this book as well. Wickham never appears physically in the story, but his influence was still felt and dealt with nicely for the HEA. I thought the way he was written into the storyline without taking it over was nicely done. I even loved Mrs. Bennet’s portrayal in this one. A sweetly written, no-angst variation which I highly recommend for JAFF aficionados.
