Matchmaking a Single Dad: An Enemies to Lovers, Mistaken Identity Romantic Comedy (Highland Hills) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 703 ratings

They’re all wrong for each other…but sometimes two wrongs do make a right.

Cole
The only woman I need in my life is my eight-year-old daughter, Jane. As a widowed brewery owner, I don’t have the time or inclination for anything more serious than a one night stand. Running the brewery is a big job, and being a parent is a bigger one, especially since my in-laws keep trying to prove I’m an unfit guardian.

But there’s no denying Holly Mayberry drives me crazy with her sassy mouth and attitude. I’ve known her most of my life, but I’ve always done a good job of evading her. Until now. She’s teaching Jane’s after-school computer program, and fate keeps throwing us together.

Holly and I are like oil and water, no good for each other. I need to stop thinking about her, so I agree to beta test a new dating app—one that Holly designed, although she’s the last person I’d tell.

My match and I can only DM each other for thirty days. No photos. No real names. No personal information until the end.

If I wanted more with a woman, Cherry Bomb checks all the boxes…so why can’t I stop thinking about Holly?

Holly
Cole Garrison is a jerk. Or so I’ve told myself for years. The truth is, he’s a DILF and a half, and bickering with him is better than kissing someone else.

Hopefully, the guy I’m chatting up on my dating app will help me forget him…and take his place in my dirty daydreams.

🍺💻❤️🔥This book was cute and not at all like I was expecting. Holly is snarky, witty, and has a strong personality that I loved. Cole is a fierce protector and loyal friend, with just a touch a**holiness that makes him swoon worthy. Sparks definitely fly in this book between Holly and Cole even when the two hate each other. The plot and character development in this book were top notch. The side characters were fantastic and I definitely had some strong feelings towards some of them. This is the 2nd book in the series, which I didn’t realize(!), but you don’t need to read the first to appreciate or understand this one as you’ll get the backstory and cliff notes version intertwined in story. I will definitely go back and read the first and the 3rd when it comes out!

In this book by Angela Casella and Denise Grover Swank, Cole is trying to protect his daughter from her grandparents. Holly is teaching Jane how to program a computer game. She sees a man watching the kids and confronts him. She calls Cole when she realizes that it's a private investigator hired by Janes grandparents. I love the relationship between Holly and Jane throughout the book. I also love how strong and sassy Jane is. I absolutely loved reading this book.

This one honestly had more smut in it than I expected! It's very vanilla, but there's more quantity wise than I expected just reading the blurb and looking at the cover. I'm certainly not complaining.

This one is well worth the read and will leave you curious about the characters in the rest of this series! It's a part of a series, yes, but it can also be read as a standalone no problem. Either way you're bound to enjoy it.

Jane maybe one of my all time favorite characters. Just saying. Holly and Cole's snark is to die for, witty dialogue, wonderful cast of heroes and villains with great plot twist. Casella and Swank are a great writing duo.

I've read everything that Angela Denise has written. I don't know how they keep out doing theirselves, but they do. This is by far my favorite. Everything is perfect. I love the comedy, the steam, and the family bonding. I will probably reread this many times. Just like when you want to watch your favorite Rom-Com movies over and over. Holly and Cole are super hot. They have some serious chemistry. I love Holly's attitude. There was a Derry Girls moment during her first day teaching. It was so hilarious! I literally laughed out loud. Jane is only 8 and she's the smartest person in the book. The 3 of them were definitely meant for each other. I don't know how they will be able to top this book.

This is a mid-4 star read for me. Cole fell for Holly in High School but quickly ghosted her because he feared she'd leave town after graduation and break his heart - so he broke hers first (albeit unwittingly). He then married the next woman he dated and became a single dad when she passed away when their daughter was 7 months old - and he's been alone for the 7+ years since.

Holly starts working a STEM class with some kids after school, including 8 year old Jane. They hit it off. Holly is also beta testing the new Matchmake Me app she and her sister developed. She doesn't know that Cole is also beta testing the app, nor that he's her 97% compatible match.

They are at odds whenever they're in the same room - because she's still mad at him for high school, and he's mad because she's kissed him but then she ran away.

Classic I hate you because I love you.

Now - I thought it was weird that the book started out sounding like Jane had issues with mean girls at school, and there's a mention at the end of the book about her having these issues - but aside from the first chapter when Cole has to talk to the principal, there is no more mention of these other girls or Jane's issues at school in the book.

So funny and steamy this book is.

Cole and Holly have a rather interesting history that for some reason turned into an enemies thing. Think it works out in the end as they give in and have some fun together.

Quirky and adorable Holly stood out since she is a nerd. Loved Cole but his daughter, Jane, stole the show.

I know I always say it but it's true - the only thing I dislike about the Angela Denise books is when they are over. Another excellent read with good characters, good storyline and the right amount of steamy. Can't wait for the next one! If you haven't read ant of their books yet you are totally missing out and need to start today!

A matchmaking beta test that may prove its worth!…Holly is testing her (and her sister’s) app and she’s been matched up with someone who she actually enjoys talking to…not like the hot, but totally aggravating, brewery owner. Circumstances throw them together and they find out that they may like each other after all…except…well you know the drill, one has past issues that impede their happiness. Not to mention the threat to the single dad of losing his daughter in a custody battle with his former in-laws! Cute story with hilarious moments.

    5.0 out of 5 stars A fab story….

This was a fab read…… Holly and Cole seemed to hate each other, but you know what they say abut hate being akin to love……

I loved that we saw their history from both their pov’s so it gave an understanding of why they baited each other as they did. There were a couple of times that I honestly wanted to punch Cole to see if that would rattle some sense into him, but he kinda worked it out for himself after a while….

Holly hid her heart behind her snark. She cared a helluva lot more that she’d like people to believe - especially Cole - and when she did let her guard down you saw the other part of her that rounded out who she was.

I adored Jane, to a certain extent she was kinda like a mini version of what you’d imagine Holly to be when she was younger. Raised by a single dad who let her know that she was his world she was a well adjusted, bright girl with a big heart who was full of sass and so very initiative.. this kid missed nothing!

With a great supporting cast of characters, a few completely detestable individuals - well written ‘cos I honestly disliked them so much - this was a fun read with some sad, a lot of laughs and an unexpected twist or two….

I’m looking forward to more in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy and entertaining read

I have to admit that the author (pair thereof) appealed to me more than the title of the book itself (albeit a good descriptor). Matchmaking books for me are generally 'meh' and the 'single dad' genre definitely not my thing.

Generally speaking, I also really dislike starting a series mid-series and I had not read the first book in this series yet.

So, it's fair to say that this book had 2 strikes against it going in, but I do enjoy the easy and flowing style of the Angela Denise writing duo which made me pick it up and read it anyway.

And I'm glad I did. It was a light, easy and entertaining read. Holly and Cole are a great combo and I enjoyed their interaction both as Holly and Cole, and as 'Hot Rod & Cherrybomb". I also loved that it dipped enough into what was going on in the lives of other characters to make you wonder which of them the next book or even spin off series might be about.

For those who haven't read the first book yet, don't be put off by reading these two out of order. While this book made some small references to the previous story, it was strong enough to stand on its own and didn't require you to have read the previous one to have a whole lot of background knowledge.

Am I glad I read it - yes
Was it a waste of my time - not at all
Would I sit down and read it all over again - I think I could easily go back and read this in context with the series in order
Would I read more by this author based on this book - yes, I now have to go find the first book in this series and read that one.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I love how Angela and Denise combine to write this book. I had it read in 2 days I couldn't but it down. I really enjoyed the interaction between the new characters. I especially loved Jane. I also enjoyed catching up with characters from the previous book. This is why I love reading a series the characters become like people you know.

Another great book by Angela and Denise. Cole and Molly have been at loggerheads for years and now he has his 8yrs old daughter who is old beyond her years. Loved the story and how it all played out. Worth reading and looking forward to the next one.
