Misfortune of Birth (Always Cambridge Book 3) Kindle Edition
~
Holly Cambridge barely recognizes herself anymore. Pretending to be another person is beginning to wear thin. Disguised as Randi Yates, she entangles herself into the perilous life of the irresistible Victor Mayhue. But day by day, she falls more desperately and impossibly in love with her natural enemy. Together they explore a highly sexual, dark and dangerous relationship. The lines between right and wrong and good and evil, begin to blur. And while attempting to shield and protect Victor from the Feds and even his own family, Holly loses sight of her original goal.
Victor understands her more than anyone she’s ever met. Essentially they have lived the same life. He is her other half. But once he discovers who she really is and what she’s done, there will be no going back. Victor Mayhue is not a second chance kind of guy.
And in the end, one of them will be forced to face their true nature.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2016Out of the 3 books in the series that I have read so far, I like this story the best despite it having an element that I hate, cheating. Victor and Holly started a relationship while he is separated but still married. To me that is cheating.
However the story had a lot of things that I liked to compensate for it including that out of the 3 books, this story felt the most adult and was the most suspenseful. For one the heroine was an adult and no longer a teenager although she was still young, in her early twenties. Another thing is the hotness factor. This is the first time in the series that a book included hot smex scenes as opposed to having none like the first book or having the smex scenes being telling and not showing like the second. Holly and Victor had a lot of chemistry and when half way through the story they consummate their relationship, the scenes were hot. Also the suspense and subsequent action was really good in this story and at the end of the story, a prior male character that I really liked int he first book returned, which made me really happy.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2014This was the Victor Mayhew I'd been expecting to see in Running (book 2 in the Always Cambridge series). HK Carlton made me wait for him, and the wait was totally worth it.
In this third installment of the Always Cambridge series Holly is still working with the FBI, but is quickly falling for the target of their sting.
When her true identity is revealed, it could mean her death, but she's willing to risk it, for just a moment in time with Victor. But when thing have to end, it's Victor who makes a startling choice and sets things in motion that Holly knows nothing about.
I can't wait for the next book to see how the dominoes fall.
