Gary Kruse is a multi-genre writer of flash fiction, short stories and novels. He lives with his family in Hornchurch on the Essex/London border.

He began writing as a teenager after seeing the Craft in the cinema and wondering what would happen if the coven of witches from the Craft came face to face with the Lost Boys (the vampires, not Peter Pan's crew!).

His work has appeared online and in print anthologies and his short story "Mirror Mirror" was shortlisted in the WriteHive 2021 Horror competition, and subsequently featured in the "Duplicitous" anthology.

His short story "Hope in the Dark" won first place in the November 2021 edition of the Writers' Forum Short Story competition.

His debut novel “Badlands” is an Amazon bestseller. His new novel, Bleak Waters, is available now.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great selection of stories

I love both full-length novels and short stories, too. Short stories are ideal for when time is pressing or on a commute. You can get to the end before you have to leave your train or bus. This collection of short stories is an excellent choice.
Well-plotted and skilfully written these nine macabre short stories will entertain and keep you on the edge of your seat. The tenth and bonus story provides a very different aspect on the writer but is no less a good story than any of the others
If you like horror in all its guises then this volume of tales is ideal. The stories get darker as you progress through the book, but they are also thought-provoking and imaginative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skillfully written ghastly tales!

Gary Kruse writes well structured and compelling stories, and certainly has a wicked imagination when it comes to horror! I struggle with long novels due to time restraints, so short stories for me are attractive and this collection didn't disappoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars Atmospheric tales

This was really good. A mix of stories that made great use of suspense and plot to build tension - and all strong stories, no filler here.
    Highly recommend picking this up.
