Mabry's Minor Mistake: M/M Holiday Romance Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 135 ratings

Mabry Caldor meets the devil in the form of a computer genius who turns his world upside down in college. Now, ten-years later, Satan’s back. Will Mabry survive his second run in with his Minor Mistake?

Mabry Caldor has a life many would envy. The glamour of a successful professional basketball career that leads to him owning a car dealership in Illinois after an injury that took him out of the game. He has his parents nearby in Indiana, and he’s resigned to living a quiet life after surviving a scorned college hacker and a relationship blunder, ending with his ex-boyfriend’s attempt at pawning his NBA championship ring.

JJ Lewis is a genius—certified. He’s also the owner of a lucrative gaming business in Los Angeles that specializes in sports-related video games. The whale he’s never been able to convince to work with him is three-time NBA MVP Mabry Caldor, a man with whom JJ has a checkered past.

Can Mabry ever forgive JJ for the hellacious senior year of college that JJ caused after he obliterated Mabry’s life on campus? Can JJ convince the man of his dreams to give him a chance to make up for a mistake seventeen-year-old
Jimmy made after believing he’d been rejected by the ball handler? Will a second run-in with the geek leave the jock’s head spinning like a basketball?

It’s a fun holiday romance where a geek goes in search of the jock he’s loved for ten years after making a minor mistake, in hopes of proving to the jock that he’s the man Mabry never imagined he’d be?

This work of fiction is approximately 74,000 words in length and ends with an H-E-A. It is a standalone M/M holiday romance. Enjoy!

Very sweet story about forgiveness and second chances. Jimmy’s life is a mess, yes he’s filthy rich but his parents are absent, his love life is nonexistent and he gets himself in trouble because he’s had no real guidance in life. May is happy but not overly happy, no love life but by choice and high standards he’s set. These two get a second chance when JJ arrives in May’s hometown to get what he wants. May to work on his video game and also…May. I loved May’s big heart, able to forgive and love.

A well crafted storyline supported by good character development, with a plot that blends laughter and tears. While a bit fanciful, with the over-the-top high flying finances, there’s still some solid Midwest reality throughout the story. Ends on a positive note with a promised future HEA.

The last person Mabry Caldor ever expected to see again is Jimmy Lewis. The man, child really, who tried to ruin his life. His arch nemesis. It’s been ten years and here he is in the car dealership Mabry owns in Chicago. What the ???

In college, Mabry, a responsible 22 year old RA, protected the young computer genius from the pitfalls of a drunken frat party on the kid’s first night on campus. A 17 year old freshman, Jimmy Lewis, wanted two things, a fake i.d. and the hot RA chaperoning him.

Despondent when Mabry rejects his inexperienced, inebriated advances, embarrassed and humiliated, Jimmy reacted childishly and hacked into Mabry’s student records, canceling his scholarship and therefore his RA position and almost ruining Mabry’s chances at being drafted into the NBA. Evil little cretin. Mabry hated him. And now, here is he is. What the ???

Following a career-ending injury, Mabry had bought the Ford dealership and even though a relationship hadn’t worked out, he was doing relatively well. The dealership is successful and he’s able to help his mom and disabled father. What he doesn’t need is Jimmy Lewis back in his life.

Jimmy is a multimillionaire. He owns a very successful video gaming company and he’s trying to make amends for his impulsive actions against Mabry. He’s never forgotten Mabry and even after reaching maturity, and surviving his toxic parents and much therapy, he’s still in love with Mabry. Now if he can only get Mabry to forgive him.

A window of opportunity presents itself when Mabry’s father suffers another stroke and needs extensive and expensive treatment. Treatment that Jimmy can help get for him through his neurosurgeon mother and his family’s health center in Los Angeles.

Mabry has no choice but to accept Jimmy’s assistance and once in California, Mabry begins to understand Jimmy’s childhood behavior and to realize that his initial attraction to the kid ten years ago was absolutely on target. He wouldn’t take advantage of a drunken minor in college but the man Jimmy has grown into is a whole different story. What the ???

It’s sexy and romantic and thoroughly captivating. A Christmas delight!

First impression is that Jimmy is a little jerk. Mabry tries to put it behind him, but Jimmy, or JJ, needs to realize the actual consequences for the stunt he pulled. He literally destroyed Mabry’s senior year of college. He is also extremely cocky and overbearing. His attitude absolutely bothered me, steamrolling over Mabry’s life. When I realized he was trying to make up for what he had done, I decided to give him a pass and see where the story went. I had to look at it as Jimmy was his past, and JJ is the man now. And JJ tries to do better but he has some work to do. And poor Mabry is so stressed about his dad and everything going on. My heart really went out to him. I came to love both characters and was pulling for their HEA before it was through. It took me until the end to figure out the reference from the title of the book because Mabry wasn’t really the one who messed up, but I will let you figure that one out for yourself.

2.0 out of 5 stars This one was not for me…

But I got it in KU so I had to flick all the way to the end.

There are story consistency issues within the first 30% that really annoyed me. They should’ve been picked up in beta and editing. The prologue was the story that I was hoping for but the rest of this novel has a nauseating tone that I seriously struggled with. How does one character go from despising the other guy to drowning in sweetness within a few pages and not have any guilt or hang ups over their previous temperament/mistakes??
Since I skipped 65% of the book I’m not even sure of what spice was on the page but it appears they only go ‘all the way’ at the very end.
    Sorry.
