From the Inside Flap
This book is intended for readers over the age of 18.
This is a paranormal fantasy, including scenes of sex. It also containssome scenes of mm.
It is written in British English, by a British author, and the spelling, terminology and grammar is edited accordingly.
This book is a work of fiction and any similarity to any vampire livingor dead is entirely coincidental. Unless you have offended the author in a pastlife, in which case your effigy may be brutally murdered within these pages.
Did I mention my dry sense of humour?
You have been warned.

About the author

Charlotte Brice started writing at the age of thirteen, when her handwriting looked like a drunken spider tried to navigate its way across the page. Practicing her handwriting got a lot more interesting when her gran gave her two Rawhide books, and her imagination took over.
Charlotte is left-handed and can lick her own nose. She lives in England with her husband, and many animals, four of them human. Attack chickens, confused dragons, and moving rocks make up the majority of the menagerie. We can't expect much better from someone who studied fruit flies during her animal science degree and then qualified as a vet.
She remembers those days fondly, when putting her arm up a cow's bottom and socks on emus' heads was her kind of normality. Now her head is filled with tentacles and schizophrenic phoenixes.
Keep up with Charlotte’s slightly psychotic menagerie of men and magnificent worlds on her website.

I love Aspen from the start, and he and Leon has to figure stuff out before they start to open up about their feelings. They have sizzling hot chemistry!!! From the start!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOk, to be honest, I'd totally forgotten I'd preordered this book but I'm really glad that I did. I was pleasantly surprised to find a very unique story with characters that sucked me in from the start.
Aspen is a fae that is part of a gang of misfit kids. When he ends up getting caught while stealing from a demon's vault he expects to be tortured and killed. He certainly doesn't expect the instant attraction to said demon.
Leon is going to deal with a problem demon in his tier (like a mafia family) when he's sidetracked by the most beautiful face on the burglar that gets caught in his vault. Something about this erithreal creature captures his attention and before he knows it he's bringing Aspen into his home. What starts out as a Master/Slave dynamic quickly morphs into something neither of them saw coming.
I love the totally unique world that the author creates - where demons are arranged in tiers (think pyramid scheme) within family and organizational units. It's completely new and yet really works. I loved how Leon stumbles along with his burgeoning feelings for Aspen while also trying to keep his family happy and deal with rival demon groups. This is one story that will keep you guessing right up to the end. I'm hooked!

Insta-lust turns insta-love immediately
Mafia plot
Slave/Master dynamic
Inaccurate BDSM
Dual first person POV
I'm sitting in a very neutral spot right now concerning this book. I like the story/plot but it was not executed well. The characters are sweet and likeable but things just don't mesh and sometimes the story felt like it was missing pieces. Specifically, moving from one action to the other. There's never any indication of body movements or touches unless it's to gain a specific response from the reader--- in other words, our characters don't brush up against one another or tentatively grab a shirt sleeve, no tugs on hair unless it's during a BJ, sitting on laps always results in hard ons, etc etc. At one point I backtracked and reread a page because I thought I missed Leon pulling Aspen into a hug but it wasn't on page, it was just Leon's POV of Aspen reluctantly accepting affection while I wondered what affection that was. And the plot just moves, not unexpectedly, but without any meat to it. Also, the teensiest character development occurs. Aspen is just as insecure at the beginning as he is at the end but slightly less hesitant when interacting with Leon. Leon is slightly better, showing a true connection to Aspen by showing affection without needing a release at the end of it.
The BDSM is flawed, big time. Leon is an experienced Dom but doesn't do anything he should when bringing in his new sub. No discussion at all. At all! Limits, consent, safe words - you know, basically BDSM 101 - completely missing from this story.
Then this experienced Dom loses control during the first TWO scenes and all I could think was "no, no, no..." First of all, CONTROL is a Dom's passion so losing control not only hurts a sub, it's hurts a Dom as well. Secondly, this is why they should have had a conversation before engaging in any scenes. Even if they had a conversation afterwards, I would have felt better. The assumption is Aspen can handle anything and I absolutely hated that. Aspen being naturally submissive actually works in the author's favor here. But again, no discussion, no safe words for either men, no aftercare or attentiveness to emotional needs even as a check in. I was just really disappointed. If this had been a self discovery thing, where Leon didn't have experience but had the desire, I could have maybe granted him some room for error. Instead he was portrayed as having done this before and that made the lack of care around the scenes bothersome.
Overall, if you're interested in insta-love, mafia, I'd-burn-the-world-down-for-you action then sure, try this. But if you want complex characters, world building, and proper BDSM portrayal, then skipping this might be your best bet.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book is unlike anything I've read since I mostly read RH romance but this doesn't mean it's not good. I am familiar with Charlotte's writing and even her men romances and this is right up on what she usually does. Well written, great characters and world building. I highly recommend this book. Aspen is a thief who gets caught in a trap and that is when Leon sees him and is caught of guard by his features. Loved it!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThere were hints, throughout this book, about Aspen having access to some serious power that just never materialized. I was expecting something from him, especially during the climax, that showed Aspen truly being a match for Leon. While the story was enjoyable without it, I felt a little disappointed in the ending that we got.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book has it ALL. The plot, details, development, and spice. It’s fasted paced, but not in a, it’s over just as it’s started way. Situations are not drawn out 10+ chapters and both characters end up being pretty upfront about wanting each other. It’s not half the book spent on emotional miscommunication. It’s a really great read!

Aspen and his crew of thieves are going after a gem in a demon clan's warehouse. Aspen gets caught and meets Leon, a high level demon who determines his fate.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOk I think I'm in love. Aspen and Leon are just so freaking cute I couldn't get enough. I love how they are each unsure but want each other with a passion. Sometimes that how relationships are when you are just starting out. But boy oh boy do they eventually find their footing.
The author creates a very creative world with the demon hierarchy and I can see so many books coming from this series. I definitely need books from Quinn and Alex...oh and Jonah and Philip. Told you there were alot. And can we please get blake especially blake...Psychopaths need love too

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot as hell! No joke!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWow this one is hot as hell. No cap! This took me on a journey that blew my mind, to laughing my butt off and then to fanning myself and checking to see if other people knew what I was reading. Another really amazing MM masterpiece by CB. I’m seriously crushing on Aspen and can’t wait to see how this series unfolds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark mafia m/m romance
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is book 1 of the series, please note that it includes m/m, bdsm and violence. It does not end on a cliffhanger.
The book really kept me on my toes. I really did not know what was coming next. I loved the world building and the demon hierarchy made it so easy to understand everything.
Aspen and his friends needed to pull off a big job to clear their debt, but it doesn't quite go to plan. Leon is a high ranking demon and takes an instant like to Aspen.
The way this book delves into the whys and hows of all the characters minds and relationships is fascinating to read. They are not what you would expect, at all.
The ending felt a little rushed. But you will not be disappointed.
