The Making of Matt (Souls of the Knight Book 3) Kindle Edition
Until the band parted ways and he found himself no longer living the dream.
Bored and lonely, with too much time and money on his hands, Matt turns to his best friend, Alex Clark, to help devise a new direction to take his life in. Together, they embrace their newfound venture, as owner and manager of one of L.A.’s hottest gay clubs – Kaleidoscope. For the first time, Matt has a plan. He knows where life is heading.
Until a devastating phone call turns his whole world upside down, sending him straight into the comforting arms of his best friend and leading him to doubt everything he’s ever known or believed about himself.
Alex had always been content with his unrequited feelings for his rockstar friend, but as Matt starts to question if he might actually feel the same, he runs as fast as his feet will allow.
Has Matt gone too far? Has his reputation as an irresponsible womanizer who refuses to take life seriously, finally managed to push his best friend away for good?
Or is Alex hiding secrets of his own?

- Haken hit all the right notes with this one. Matt and Alex are perfect for each other and absolutely worth falling in love with. The two of them face real obstacles but their commitment to each other allows them to overcome each one. I definitely recommend this one! ~ QUEERcentric Books
- I was so into this book, I read it in one night!! I hadn't realized how late/early it was, until my husband came into the den looking for me!! I couldn't put my kindle down!!! I laughed and cried!! One can only hope that they can find love like theirs!!! Great job Nicola Haken and please don't stop doing your thing Boo!!! This book is a must have!!! ~ Kindle Customer
- Oh man, THIS BOOK. It is amazing. And, like I stated above, all the things I love about reading. It's funny as hell--Matt's kindle adventures...enough said--and it had the ability to bring tears to my eyes at the drop of a hat. Who knew that laundry could have that effect on someone? It's chock-full of characters that just mesh perfectly, and angst that's never forced and just in the right amount to get your blood pumping. ~ Give Me Books
- The book was absolutely fabulous. Over and over and over again I laughed out loud while reading it. ~ Smitten with Reading
- I FLOVED this book and i wish we had more.I laughed, cried an at one point i wanted to punch Matt in the junk. ~ Southern Babes Bookblog

This was such a fun book. I have not read the rest of the series (although I have print copies sitting in my TBR), but starting with Matt was not a bad idea. I love this guy, although he's a big man-child with the maturity level and attention level of a gnat. There's just something about him that makes him so freaking lovable even when you want to smack him upside the head.
But what I love most about Matt is that he is the way he is because he simply doesn't care about what other people think about him...until that hurts someone he loves. He has paparazzi and cameras which follow him everywhere, but he simply can't be bothered. He pays ZERO attention to what the media is saying about him and I love that. That especially comes into play in this relationship.
Matt has always been straight. That's not even a question. But when he begins to develop feelings and attraction for Alex, he doesn't worry that much about it after initially just wondering where the heck it's coming from. He definitely isn't worried about what someone else thinks. His only concern is that the attraction isn't from a genuine place which could really screw up the amazing friendship he has with Alex. Hurting Alex is his one and only concern. Seriously, I don't care how immature and mess up this guy is...how can you not love him for that?
The book was absolutely fabulous. Over and over and over again I laughed out loud while reading it. Matt's friends know and accept Matt's flaws and sometimes their reactions to him were even better than his antics in the first place. Some of the most epic scenes from the book came from Matt and Sawyer's little chats...I loved those and how Saw basically just told Matt to get his head out of his butt over and over again. LOL.
It was a fun book with a great romantic story. Now I need to go back and read the first two!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2015This was a wonderful story that I really enjoyed. I thought a lot of the story focused around Sawyer's and Jake,'s storyline, so I didn't give it a five. I was really looking forward to Matt's transition from man-without-a-care to man-in-love. It didn't feel like that issue was as well developed as it could have been. But overall, I still loved the story that Ms Haken put together.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2015I truly loved this book. I really liked the first two and I truly hoped for this when Matt and Alex met. This was so much more than I could have imagined though. Matt realizing he was attracted to Alex and the confusion and coming to terms with it, I pretty much expected. The turn it took, I could never have seen coming. It may have seemed like Matt changed and matured overnight but really, he faces it all with the same "eff what the world thinks" attitude he had before. Mostly, it was a lot of the same failure to communicate trope, just with more serious overtones.
There was also lots of humorous moments, mostly generated by Matts lack of brain to mouth filter. The scene with Matt and Ryder at the salon, though, had me just ROFL! Another was the dick measuring texts. You'll see what I mean. Matt also faces family issues, some with great sadness, others with the same conviction and confidence in himself. That's what I enjoyed the most about him. Alex was a wonderful character, too. He accepted Matt just as he was, never wanting him to change his attitude or lose his exuberant nature. I also noticed very few errors in editing in this one. I'm sorry Nicola Haken was ill and lost her joy in writing for a while but this was one spectacular comeback.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2015I had been waiting what seemed like forever to read another "Souls of the Knight" story, and good things do come to those who are loyal and wait! When I first read "Being Sawyer Knight", I thought, this author is awesome! I didn't read the next book in this series for my own reasons, but was hoping the series was not done. I hadn't seen anything else by this author in regards to this series or on Facebook for awhile and wondered where she was. Well, good things do come to those who are loyal and wait!!! Matt and Alex's story was more than worth the wait!!!! I was so into this book, I read it in one night!! I hadn't realized how late/early it was, until my husband came into the den looking for me!! - Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2015Welcome back Nicola! and thank you for bring the boys of Souls of the Knight with you! I loved every word written for Matt & Alex. Their love story had so many layers of emotions that truly pulled you by your heart, and didn't let go. I didn't know how much I missed Ryder, until he was back with his sexy, sassy arse in this book. The bonds of friendship are so strong with this group, and their banter with each other made me laugh out loud. There is also a strong message in this book about acceptance. Even in this day and age, we have people in this world who show their prejudices, and ugliness to what they deem as wrong. Love is love, and it is a beautiful thing. In this story, two people found it! Well done my friend.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2016I love reading Nicola Haken. It was a good read. But I didn't really fall in love with Matt as I fell in love with Sawyer and Jake or Alex. In the end I just felt Matt is going to fall out of love in couple of months. I think he needs projects. I think he is gonna mess it up. But it's fun while it lasts and the book ended anyways.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made my heart sigh
Have you ever encounter a book that you didn't just read...you felt? Thats what this book was for me. I have loved this series so much but I have to admit I didn't think they could get any better....well damn, Nicola proved me wrong! Each book has just gotten better and better, to the point that this one made me sad to stop reading.
There was everything in it, it was full of mixed emotions, drama and soul searching. I loved that Matt never also the essence of who he was no matter what he went through, he became a better man but he was always just Matt. Alex was just the kind of man that everyone needs. Hot, sexy, loving and after a good kick up the a**e, open to being happy. I felt every single thing that the guys went through together, from the highest highs to the lows that broke my heart. I felt I lived the story with them. Nicola has the style of writing that just drags you in and doesn't let go until the last word, leaving you sad that the book is finished!
I loved this book....loved loved loved!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best GFY stories ever
This is another great book by Nicola Haken. I was intrigued to find out how she would manage to make the Matt we met in book one of the series into a character I could root for. I think she has done more than that. She really made me fall for Matt in no time at all, and by the end I loved him more than any of the other 'Knights'.
His is a journey of growing up, becoming an adult and taking on responsibility. A womaniser in every way, he finds himself in shock when he realizes that he likes his best friend Alex more than he should. Love is a foreign concept to him, it's something that happens to everyone else in the band but him. He simply doesn't know what it is, until his mum points him in the right direction. I love the way she describes how you know that someone is the 'one' for you.
Falling in love is the first thing that forces Matt to look at his life and what he has been doing with it differently. But Alex' circumstances really make him take on responsibility. And he does it without any second thought. Even if he is a 'twat' and has no filter when it comes to his big mouth, he has a heart as huge as the Sahara. He accepts Alex in every way because he loves him - and I have hardly read a more romantic scene than the one at the seaside when they have their first date.
Matt's acceptance of his feelings and of Alex are wonderfully expressed when he finally meets the press. I LOVED that little speech he gave there, when he says at the end *SPOILER*
"Lastly yes, I'm officially coming out. Coming out as a man in love. Interpret that however you want. The only label I give myself is ...lucky"
Matt's story is wonderfully told, and although I wasn't overawed with Jake and Sawyer in the first book, I did love them here. It was brilliant to see how Sawyer played a big part in getting Matt and Alex sorted. And watch all the guys in the band finding their HEA.
I haven't read the second book in the series (Seems I often end up reading series out of sync), but I enjoyed Ryder's character so much in this book I will certainly not wait long to catch up on this.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this story from start to finish
High expectations exceeded!!!
I loved this story from start to finish. I dare say this may be my favourite portrayal of a straight playboy turning GFY that I've read to date. It was handled well. Every thought and feeling was weighed and processed; nothing was rushed. It was a slow burn, but not too slow. AND it was a friends-to-lovers story. Seriously, it was winning on all counts.
I absolutely adored Matt and Alex as lead characters. Matt and his outrageous (yet adorable) personality is one that I could happily read about forever. And who wouldn't want an Alex of their very own!? No one, that's who.
Matt's mum said it best when she explained to Matt how he'd recognise what real love is -
"When something happens in your day, big or small, good or bad, they’re the person you can’t wait to tell. They’re the person you can sit in silence with for hours without feeling uncomfortable. The person you can insult but would defend to the ends of the earth if anyone else dared to try. When you see them, hear from them, or even just think about them, they’ll make your heart smile."
Also, major props for handling possibly delicate subject matter with the utmost care and remarkable grace.
I smashed through this series in a matter of days. Nicola Haken has easily established a new fan in me. I can't wait to read more

Wow! That about sums it up. I couldn't put this book down and read it in one sitting, no kidding, even while cooking my dinner. What a hot, fun, sexy story. Love the way Nicola brings serious issues into her stories. Such a great read!!!
