The Marriage Effect: A marriage of convenience sports romance (Washington Wolves Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 10,328 ratings

Logan Ward drives me just a little crazy. It’s the only reason I can explain how I ended up fake-married to him. He’s got those dark eyes and broody stares, totally unflappable, which is a good trait in a star defensive football player. Maybe it’s because I don’t always think things through, or because he does drive me crazy, but when I find out he needs a wife to keep custody of his four younger sisters, I have no problem volunteering for the job.

I have my own reasons for needing a husband, and striking a mutually beneficial bargain with Logan is the perfect solution. Plus, it can’t be that hard to wrangle four young girls and a big grumpy football playing husband, right?
Wrong.

Our simple solution creates a whole new problem. Logan and I aren’t as different as we thought. My reluctant groom has fire inside him, and I can’t wait to light the match.

1000 Stars for Karla Sorensen newest book The Marriage Effect. Karla has written one masterpiece y’all are going to flip for!! A MUST READ book for any Sports Romance reader! Gahhhh...this book is packed FULL of emotions. You get the whole package with this book. You’ll laugh, you’ll swoon, you’ll cry and your heart will burst from all the love written in this story. Paige and Logan are EVERYTHING!! What started out as “fake” ends up becoming so much more. Paige needed Logan and Logan needed Paige. These two had the perfect plan but both never knew it would grow to something that neither of them wanted out of. People ended up depending on them each and once the whole family was a well oiled machine nothing could tear them a part. Nothing but maybe themselves. Highly recommended. One of my favorite books of 2019.

Earlier this year a friend of mine recommended this book to me, and me being me, I had to read the series in order. Was it necessary? No, as all of these books were standalones, but I'm glad I did. I love sports romance and I love football, so this was totally my jam. PLUS, this series took place in Washington and I live her so, even closer to my heart.

In The Ex Effect, book 2 of the series, we were introduced to Logan Ward, but didn't know much about him except that he hated the press/media and gave their publicist a hard time granting interviews and such. I love a quiet, grumpy character and was instantly drawn to him and wanted to know more. Thank goodness Karla gave him his own story. We also had been introduced to Paige McKinney (the heroine) briefly in the previous books as best friend to the owner of the Washington Wolves and ex-model. She seemed like she was obviously gorgeous, but maybe a bit flighty and made decisions without thinking too much about the outcome. I knew she was going to be a character that had to get her story too. Who would make the world traveling model settle down??

This story of fake marriage, single guardian, grumpy/sunshine, and sports romance had everything I love in a good romance. Great main characters. Amazing supporting characters. Sexual tension and a storyline that drew you in right from the beginning. I loved that both Paige and Logan needed each other for different reasons, but they needed one another regardless. And a fake marriage was the answer. I loved that Paige was a strong and fierce woman that was definitely someone you would want your kids to look up to. She is unapologetically herself, but she fights for those she loves and cares for with everything that she is. She won me over right from the start when she had an interaction with a young football player. Fierce! And Logan? Well, while he is the quiet hero, it's his love of his sisters that totally did me in. While he is not their dad, he is raising them and wants no fanfare or accolades. If you know me, I love single dads in stories and while he isn't a dad, he is a guardian and the way he loves those sisters and wants what's best for them? That's the sexiest thing a man can do. And those Ward sisters? They were major scene stealers and gave this story the perfect balance.

With all that said, I hate picking favorites, but The Marriage Effect was definitely my favorite of the series. The cast of characters and their story was just perfection. Yes, Paige and Logan and their slow burn, fake marriage filled with sexual tension to the nth degree had me all charged up and biting at the bit, but the relationship that really got to me emotionally was the one Paige had with the Ward sisters. It was the perfect balance to the tension filled romance. There is one scene that had me so emotional that I may have even shed a tear. Those girls won me over.

The Marriage Effect was a great ending to the Washington Wolves series. I swear each book was better than the last. Ms Sorensen built an amazing football world that I wanted to be a part of. I love football and a good emotional, angsty, and frustratingly hot read. I frickin loved Logan and Paige together and only wished we got more of them. BUT, it appears that we may see those 2 in future books since we got a little taste of a new series to come featuring the Ward sisters series at the end. I can't wait to check those out too. In the meantime, totally recommend this book whether you read it in order or not. It's one to put on your TBR!

'Here Allie thought that Logan was going to make a play for that feeble organ inside my chest, but she never expected that a fourteen-year-old girl would steal it first.'

"The Marriage Effect" by Karla Sorensen is a delightful romance novel that skillfully weaves together the popular fake marriage trope and the complexities of single parenthood. With a blend of endearing characters and simmering chemistry, this book offers a heartwarming and engaging read.

Logan Ward, a dedicated football player and the responsible guardian of his four younger half-sisters, is a character who comes to life with his admirable commitment to family. He doesn't want any more women in his life, but when a family emergency threatens his custody, he's thrown into a situation where the only solution is to find himself a wife. The premise of a reluctant groom seeking a partner through a fake marriage arrangement sets the stage for a compelling story.

Paige McKinney, on the other hand, is a character who brings spontaneity and impulsiveness to the story. Her habit of not thinking things through creates a series of comical and heartwarming moments. The moment she proclaims herself Logan's fiancée in the hospital, things take an unexpected turn. This is where the narrative excels, as it flawlessly combines the grumpy, reserved nature of Logan with Paige's restlessness.

One of the standout aspects of the book is the portrayal of Logan's sisters. They are vibrant and well-developed characters, each with distinct personalities and storylines. Their individual journeys and relationships add depth to the story, making it more than just a romance between the leads.

The slow burn chemistry between Logan and Paige is a highlight, as it sizzles and ignites gradually throughout the narrative. Their journey from strangers to a fake couple to something more is a delightful ride for readers who appreciate a well-crafted romantic build-up.

However, it would have been nice to see a bit more of the romantic connection between Logan and Paige once they officially got together. While the focus on family dynamics and Logan's sisters is undoubtedly a strong suit, a few additional scenes highlighting the evolving romance between the main characters would have been a welcome addition.

"The Marriage Effect" is a charming and heartwarming novel that combines a popular trope with well-drawn characters, simmering chemistry, and a focus on the importance of family.

Thoughts: This was my favorite book in the series. I read the first three Ward sisters books a few years ago and never got around to reading the Washington Wolves books until now so it was almost like a refresher. I loved Logan and Paige together. They seemed so opposite but ended up having some fundamental similarities.

I loved getting more of Logan, he was a big mystery in the first two books and getting background and his reasons for his resistance to the media made so much sense for his character. Paige was so fun and jumped right in with Logan. She finally found her place, even if it took a big blow up for her to finally admit her feelings.

I’m not sure why it took so long for me to read this series, but I’m glad I finally did. I will definitely be catching up with the next few series that spin off from this one!

Karla Sorenson always creates fun, loving stories. I loved Paige and Logan together, especially with the dynamic that they find themselves in. Logan intrigued me from seeing him in book 2, I always wanted him to find his HEA and when you get to know his situation it makes him so much more swoon-worthy.

Logan doesn't stand a chance when it comes to Paige's advances. She is not a woman to be messed with but Logan doesn't see himself falling for the woman he cannot see a relationship with. How wrong he was. So wrong. I absolutely adored when Paige fought for what was hers and stood up for the girls. She said she would do it but actions always speak louder than words and at that moment you could tell how much it meant to the girls.

I'm sad the series has come to an end but I will definitely be reading other books by Karla.

This is the second book of the Washington Wolves series, the books are standalones.
I haven't read the first part yet, but it doesn't feel like I missed something important to enjoy this story.
I liked the story line, the writing style, the tension and the interesting characters. At some points their thoughts and actions strayed a bit from reality, but that didn't influence my reading experience too much.
This book is a great combination of classical romance tropes, fake marriage, sports, patchwork, and it works.
