Master of the Void Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 43 ratings

In the Seven Lands, magic is everything. So what happens when you’re the only person who has none?

Nothing matters more to Derrius Mendi than forging a better life for his family by pursuing a formal magical education at the University, something his parents have sacrificed what little they had to make possible. When disaster strikes on the eve of his thirteenth birth moment—the day he was to receive his magical gift from the Stars—will he choose perseverance or bitterness as he struggles against a society that would rather forget he exists than help him succeed?

As the third son of an archmage, Orimund Laetus has spent his life living up to the expectations of others. When his testing goes horribly wrong, he must decide who he truly is when his carefully crafted upbringing is rendered useless. Setting off on an epic adventure of self-discovery, Orimund must find his place in the world before a looming evil destroys everything he holds dear.

From swashbuckling sea voyages and magical heists to unlikely friendships and budding romances, Master of the Void is a sweeping coming-of-age journey that follows a cast of misfit friends through times of heartbreak, fear, joy, laughter, failure, and triumph.

Magic with Mystery! Highly recommend!
This was an excellent read. I can't wait for the second book! I loved the journey through the Seven Lands. The characters are rich and the overall premise that we all have choices for good and evil is thought-provoking and it's interesting to see how Orimund and Derrius react to their different situations. The plot has lots of twists and turns and the mystery slowly unfolds throughout the book. I couldn't put it down for 3 days! Highly recommend. I loved the wit and relationships and intriguing mystery behind the magic. Great for young adult or adult as the story is clean, but the relationships are still really strong. You won't be sorry you took the time to read. Highly recommend!!

I've finally finished my read through of all the SPFBO9 finalists. This was a really fun book that felt like a twist of Harry Potter and ATLA, if Harry decided to turn evil. I loved the plot twists the author put into the story. There were some moments that felt maybe a little to campy for me but it was an emotional rollercoaster of a book.

Master of the Void is one of the best books I have ever read. When it comes to magic and fantasy, it is number one. This book is very well written. The author does an excellent job in bringing the characters to life. You felt like you were right there among the action. One of the underlying themes to me is how our future is affected by our choices. We can't always blame our circumstances. I highly recommend this book to all ages.
