Matchmaking a Scrooge: A Grumpy/Sunshine, Small Town Romantic Comedy (Highland Hills) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 822 ratings

He wants to destroy her show. She wants to get on Santa’s naughty list with him.

Rowan
No man wants to be nicknamed Cupid. My family’s run a matchmaking business for years, though, and my sister’s a romance novelist. You get the picture. To make matters worse, my narcissistic grandmother just sold a reality dating show to network television. Thanks to her, our small town is about to become a hotbed of tourists and opportunists.

Her show needs to be stopped, and I’m exactly the man to do it. Cupid, reporting for duty.

The star of the show, Kennedy Littlefield, isn’t my type at all. She’s a wealthy heiress with an unhealthy obsession with Christmas.

There’s just one problem: I can’t stop thinking about her.

Kennedy
I’m lucky to be doing this show. Maybe I’ll start believing it if I repeat it enough...because I’m supposed to be dating eight men, and they all suck. I’m not here to fall in love—I’m trying to save a non-profit with the publicity from the show—but I’d hoped for a Christmas miracle.

I
love Christmas, only it hasn’t come to the set because the show doesn’t air until spring, and no one—with the exception of me—wants to watch a Christmas show in March.

There’s only one thing I want more than Christmas cheer: the ornery grump who keeps hanging out around the set.

Fun Installment in the Highland Hills Seriea
🎄Reality Dating Show (The Bachelorette-esque)🎄Grumpy/Sunshine🎄Opposites Attract🎄Forbidden Romance-ish🎄Small Town🎄Christmas Romance🎄Interconnected StandaloneKennedy agrees to go a dating show, "Matchmaking the Rich," only to bring awareness to “Leto’s Hands,” her non-profit organization. If she just happens to find true love while on the show then it's a bonus. What she doesn't expect is to fall for the handyman on set instead of one of her handpicked suitors. This is the 3rd book in the Highland Hills series and is an interconnected standalone that follows a different Mayberry sibling, this time it's the only brother - Rowan. This is cute installment in the series that takes place around Christmas and is a fun holiday read! Rowan's surliness towards, well, everything is a great contrast to Kennedy's bubbliness and love for Christmas. I really enjoy grumpy/sunshine tropes and this book didn't disappoint. One of the prominent side characters, Harry, is probably one of my favorite characters in this series. I loved reading about all of his mishaps and he provided some great laughs. Solid 4 ⭐ and a good 2.5 🌶

"Matchmaking a Scrooge" is an absolutely hilarious and wonderfully romantic small town holiday rom-com. It's set in a small "Hallmark" town during Christmas. A full family of matchmakers with an evil matriarch, a ridiculous dating show filled with pampered pricks and a bleeding heart heiress, all thrown together in a mansion that would offend Andy Warhol.
The characters are endearing and realistic, and the dynamics of their different personalities mesh well together throughout the story. This is a must read for fans of Romantic Comedy, Opposites Attract, Small Town and Holiday Romance reads. I'm looking forward to reading more about these characters in the rest of the series.

Matchmaking a Grump is a wonderful read. I love this one so much. Rowan and Kennedy are fabulous. They both have huge hearts for what matters to them. Rowan has his own ways of trying to matchmake and that will put a smile on your face with the couple he pushes for. Kennedy is trying to help her nonprofit job by getting the name out as much as possible. There are a few roadblocks along the way that will have you giggling out loud. Kennedy and Rowan are just so sweet together when they can get past some of the roadblocks and differences that pop up. This is one reality show you will not want to miss out on when it comes to Nana Mayberry and her all-knowing ways. Family strength can be tested but the holidays can work their magic more than you can imagine. I love Kennedy and Rowan so much. You need to meet them today.

This book had EVERYTHING! I laughed so hard at times, I will admit I cried at others, and literally walked into a wall while intently reading because I could not put it down. The characters, main and supporting, are so well written. I loved the descriptions. Not too much that it dragged the story along. But enough that I felt I was there. I’m recommending this to all my Hallmark movie fan friends and family for sure!

Matchmaking a Grump is the next in the Highland Hills series (spin off of the Bad Luck Club) by Casella and Swank. Context around the characters would be helpful but it's not required as this is a standalone.

Maybe it's the fact that I hate reality shows, (specifically dating shows) or that I hate Nana so much (from previous books) but as much as I enjoyed both Rowan and Kennedy, this just wasn't my cup of tea. As I said of one of the other stories in this series, I enjoyed parts of this book and hated others. Every single page of Nana made me grit my teeth; she's a terrible person who makes everyone around her worse, even sweet Kennedy and beloved Harry so the fact that she's spearheading this show made my head hurt. I did genuinely enjoy Kennedy who is a total sweetheart and trying to fundraise for her charity by being on with this nightmare show. Rowan was his usually grump self but he's so lovable. He's been so hurt by everything from his family (the authors' throw the kitchen sink at the siblings) that it's hard to let the sunshine in but Kennedy holds the key to his happiness. When I wasn't actively trying to ignore the machinations of Nana, the other characters were bright spots. Glad Kennedy and Rowan was able to find their HEA.

Angela Casella and Denise Grover Swank do it again. They write the most interesting romance novels. In this one, we get Rowan and Kennedys story. Rowan is trying to stop the matchmaking show his grandma is doing. Kennedys is the star of the show. They get to know each other and decide to try to outsmart grandma together without killing the show. Harry is a cohost to the show and helps Kennedy. I loved this book.

I loved this story! Kennedy and Rowland have a classic opposites attract with a bit of a Romeo and Juliette thing going on. I loved all of the Christmas contraband sprinkled throughout. I think I even fell a little bit in love with Highland Hills. The dating show was actually how I imagine those things to be in reality. I liked the side character storyline as well. It all fit together beautifully. This is another fantastic addition to the Matchmaking series. I love the writing team of Angela Casella and Dennis Grover Swank.

So I just have to say.....I freaking LOVE Rowan. He is a grumpy old man in a young man's body. But underneath, he is sweet and kind hearted. Kennedy is a sunshine and rainbows woman and is the perfect fit for Rowan. This book is lots of fun with lots of heart. Loved this story!
