Since I just became familiar with Maureen in "Maureen Goes To Venice", I did not know what to expect from a Maureen Christmas story. But I did expect it to be good, and funny - and it was both.

Ah..Maureen. She tries. As I look back on Maureen Goes To Venice which I just read and I now see things in her personality that I did not see before. I will have to read that book again as well as all of the Maureen books.

In "Maureen Gets Crafty", she is aggravated that every year her friend gives her a very nice homemade Christmas card, and Maureen gives her a store brought one. Her friend makes a comment about the card being store brought, not to be hurtful, but Maureen takes it that way. So this year Maureen swears she is making her good friend a homemade Christmas card.

She goes to the craft store. And I think she spends more time when she gets home eating candy and drinking wine than actually crafting. Not to mention the other array of things that go wrong because, we are after all talking about Maureen.

And you cannot skip over the phonograph which, keeps skipping. It is about to drive Maureen crazy!

I could not help but laugh because she was trying so hard. I am a crafter and I remember some of my first projects. So if you craft, you will really enjoy this story.

So is Maureen able to make a homemade Christmas card without getting into to much trouble? And whatever card she gives her friend, what will she say this about it this year, if anything at all?

This is a must read. I was in a bit of the Christmas blahs and this cheered me right up.

Also how can I not mention the best part. A little more Christmas surprise. The Kindle edition includes the prize-winning short story, 'Maureen goes to Oz', plus two new and exclusive Maureen drabbles.

Do I have to tell you how much I loved them? That was a great bonus from the author.

Pick yourself up a copy immediately! Before Christmas is here :)

Maureen making her own Christmas Card? You might think 'that can only end badly.' You'd be right.
Throw in some slapstick, written with no small amount of skill, some Cliff Richard ( Christmas isn't complete without him) and a good laugh and you've got a little cracker. Great stuff.

Have you ever had someone make an innocent enough remark and have it slowly drive you crazy? This is the situation Maureen finds herself in after a friend makes a comment about her not making her a Christmas card by hand. She is thereafter determined to make her own- with hilarious results.

This is a set of short, very funny stories about a woman who tries. Hard. She may be a touch neurotic, but in the end just wants to make a good showing.

This is a mini-Maureen adventure. If you think that making a Christmas card WOULDN'T be an adventure, then you've not met Maureen yet.

This might be a short story, but it's full of Maureen.

If you already know her you'll love this latest story from Jonathan Hill about his hapless creation, Maureen. In this special Christmas offering Maureen is at her social climbing, sherry slurping, self-deluded best. Although you know where this story is going before Maureen gets there you're thinking "No! Stop! It won't work Maureen" but she goes to the limit with the inevitable consequences.

If you haven't met Maureen before I'm sure you'll enjoy this short story and want to read the other books too.

In Maureen the author has created a wonderful character who at times amazes with the extent of her crassness but occasionally is poignantly sensitive and insightful. Beautifully written with clarity and precision, Jonathan Hill once again demonstrates that he is the master of small details - a talented writer of short stories.

In addition you get two Maureen drabbles - a form of writing at which the author excels - and an additional story from an earlier period in Maureen's life. All in all an entertaining and lively read for Christmas or any time of the year and excellent value for money.

Maureen is determined that the annual 'Christmas Card Exchange Ceremony' with her posh DIY Hand Crafted Cards friend is rather special this year, but at what cost?

If Maureen is ever nominated for the National Treasure Award, she will get my vote.

Maureen Gets Crafty (A Maureen short story)
Story of Maureen and while she's spending her time creating a Christmas card she's sipping sherry.
Things go wrong on all accounts and it's a wonder the card gets made at all. To begin with she's not in a festival mood to be doing it.
Louisa comes to exchange a handmade card with her and Maureen gets a surprise. Also chapter on carolers and another bonus story.
Can't wait to go caroling tonight, should be fun! Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maureen strikes again!

Maureen Gets Crafty is a nice little Christmas tale involving Jonathan's fantastic comic creation. I enjoyed how Maureen just seems to get into these little scrapes, whether they be big or small, the author has a way of making it hilarious. Whilst I worked out the ending before I got there (hey, my brain tends to wander when I read and tries to work out the end long before it has arrived) it did not detract from the story.

This collection also includes some Maureen drabbles, a Maureen prequel and letter to the calendar company mentioned in the main story. They all raise a smile. Maureen strikes again!

HA, Ha, Ha! I am still laughing at Maureen's attempts to impress her friend by making her a hand crafted card for Christmas.
As is the case with real life friends I have grown to love Maureen's character as much for her flaws as I do for her attributes. This wee story is the ideal antidote for all those seasonal stresses, no matter what a guddle you get yourself into over the festivities just keep this book to hand, think of Maureen and reassure yourself 'it could be worse'.

I love the Maureen series and have enjoyed each one, but I was rather disappointed by how very short this latest offering is.

Brilliant short for when the Christmas preparations were becoming overwhelming and the risk of someone's head being chewed off was drawing close. It gave me space and I didn't have to put much work in at all thanks to this terrific author.

I got enough respite that it allowed me to remember what this season is ACTUALLY about.

Thank you Mr Hill!
