Midnight Falls: A Dark Urban Fantasy Series (The Order of Shadows Book 2) Kindle Edition
A cursed town full of wild magic — and I’m knee-deep in it.
I’m Morgan Rook, supernatural detective. I’d barely gotten the city's blood off my boots when I received a new mission to visit the town of Copperwood Falls. A place where the bodies were piling up, with whispers of a ritual gone bad.
As the truth of Copperwood Falls unraveled, I found myself entangled in a game with the odds stacked against me. First a ruthless gang, and old scores. Then the dark presence lurking at the core of my being. Finally, a demon with a grudge turning the night into a meat grinder with me as the bait.
One wrong step, and this town’s curse might be my last case. Of course, I should have walked away. But once again, escape wasn’t in the cards.
Kit Hallows keeps the grit coming—second in the complete five-book Order of Shadows series.
Perfect for fans of Dresden Files and dark paranormal kicks. Binge the shadows—A Game of Witches (Book 3) is next.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2017Morgan's unofficial job for the Organization is a bit more than he was prepared for. The town he was sent to is just... odd. It's too picturesque, and everyone is completely suspicious of outsiders. Morgan needs to find out what's going on, while completing his "mission".
This one is dark, and sends Morgan's mind to places he doesn't want to tread. Throughout it all, Morgan's dark other is close to the edge, forcing Morgan to keep it at bay.
Another great story in the Morgan Rook series. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2022Backstory:
Morgan Rook is once again on a mission but it is of his own making as he is not suppose to be running amok as the Organization wanted him to go in low mode for awhile, but he has his own agenda as he is trying to track down the murderer of his wife and it seems the road leads to a place called Copperwood Falls.
Once Morgan lands in Copperwood Falls he finds out that the woman responsible for his wife's murder just seems to be on the outskirts of his reach. But the more he digs to find this woman the more he seems to land in hot water and this time Morgan might have a hard time extracting himself out of his predicament as the supernatural entities that are protecting the woman will do anything they can to keep Morgan from getting within range!
Thoughts:
This book just didn't seem to have the non-stop action like the first book as there was more mystery and suspense wrapped within the story. There is still the sorcery though that the character Morgan dishes out to the supernatural beings but the book seemed to slow down in some parts.
I felt that it was up and down with the action - there would be some and then it was back to being slow. The pacing was not as fast as the first book but the writing style was still smooth. All in all the story was great and the last 30% of the book the action seemed to pick back up and it kept moving till the end of the story. Giving this book four "Supernatural Shadows stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2019Not really the best paranormal thriller I've ever read, but still worth reading. I definitely recommend this series for everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2021A dark and confusing tale that draws the reader into the horrors surrounding us. In this story, Rook is battling evil in the form of a town of dark magic. Tidbits of his past collide with his present and his future and he strives to make sense of the evil found in an otherwise beautiful town. Readers who enjoy dark urban fantasy will enjoy this newest tale.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2017Great followup to book one. Can't wait to get started on the third book. I hope this series continues for a long time.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019Finally something different!, I can't wait for the next book to come!😇
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2017I enjoyed the sequel just as much as the original. It doesn't offer as many clues as to some of the main characters mysteries as I would like, but I guess that's for the next book
Looking forward to the next one
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2017The core story is entertaining but held back by uneven pacing and repetitive descriptions. That said, I look forward to book three.

5.0 out of 5 stars Supernatural Detective
Great story. I have just recently started reading the Morgan Rook series and am very glad I did. They combine a supernatural deteceive/assasin with a great story which includes humans and monsters. Very hard to put down once I start reading.
