Minta in Spite of Herself: A Traditional Regency Romance (The Ellsworth Assortment Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 861 ratings

An unladylike young lady. A young man with something to prove. Let the games begin.

Tomboy Miss Araminta Ellsworth and her dearest friend Aggie were the most backward graduates Mrs. Turcotte’s Seminary for Young Ladies ever produced, more interested in batting and bowling than sewing and simpering. How then could Araminta ever have predicted Aggie’s unprecedented passion for the reprobate Mr. Francis Taplin? If Minta is going to keep her friend’s person and fortune out of Taplin’s dangerous hands, she’ll need to think of something—fast.

Mr. Nicholas Carlisle has always lived in his stepbrother Francis’s shadow: at school, at university, and in his family’s prospects. So when Miss Ellsworth approaches him for aid, she finds a willing accomplice. Nicholas fashions a new personality for her, transforming her into Francis’s ideal. To this he adds a counterfeit courtship, to stir his brother’s competitive side.

Their scheme succeeds.

Wildly.

But the victory might cost them the only prize worth winning—their own chance at love.

♥ From the author of the beloved Hapgoods of Bramleigh series called "sparkling" and "swoon-worthy," Minta in Spite of Herself is a clean Regency romance and the third book of The Ellsworth Assortment. ♥

When a Charles Dickens Final Jeopardy question saved her from total humiliation on the game show, Christina Dudley decided her degrees in English Literature and lifelong reading obsession might actually come in useful, and she sat down to write her first novel.

Now, twenty books later, she is the author of three series of sparkling Regency romances and the contemporary Jane Austen adaptation PRIDE AND PRESTON LIN (Third State Books, March 2024), which was named to the 2024 Best Romance lists for Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and Library Journal.

Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area on a diet of classics and Regency romance, her tastes have grown to include sci-fi with robots, survival epics, and doorstop-sized histories, but love stories will always be her favorite.

She and her family live in Bellevue, Washington.

Christina Dudley has become one of the authors whose works I will gladly preorder and then wait anxiously to be released! Because i am that sure i am going to love them. And even with such high expectations, I am never disappointed.

In this case, I wondered how she would write a satisfying story for Minta? But she did! So satisfying, and so true to Minta's character; and the perfect beau for her, too! I always finish Ms. Dudley's books with a heartfelt, happy sigh, and then I'm sorry that I read it so quickly, instead of savoring it longer. Once again, we have a unique, true-to-life personality, without falling into the trap of modern attitudes. A wonderful, historically accurate, sweet and clean romance.

If you haven't read any of Ms. Dudley's books, do yourself a favor and try just one! You will definitely be back for more.

Probably because Arminta is not the "British Social Deb." Given that, the story may not totally true to Regency norms, but it is in a rural setting where guidelines are not so strict.

    I loved Minta.

A clean story. The third in this series. This one is delightful and humorous. The tomboyish Araminter and her friend Aggie now have suitors, which prompts Araminter to try and save Aggie from a fortune Hunter by becoming a properly demure young lady. Nice to see Bea and her character develop as well. Very enjoyable, funny and thoroughly recommended.
