If you like silly and sweet, then this book is for you!

Eva Mallory is convinced that her accident proneness is due to the family curse. Her solution: get married and change her last name! A bit ridiculous, right? Well, from there, her family attempts to help her find the best kind of husband by setting her up on numerous blind dates.

Inject quirky characters, several very spicy interactions, and lots of funny moments. You have yourself a perfect recipe for a cute romcom! It was such a fun read!

I wasn't sure if I was going to stick with the book in the beginning. Eva can be a lot and the bad luck stuff was definitely over the top. Plus, there was a lot of time spent on her eccentric family that I found a little repetitive. However, once she met Luke, I loved the book so much more. They had great chemistry and he brought much-needed steam to the book. I was happy with how everything worked out for Eva and she eventually grew on me by the end. Overall, I'd rate 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Eva Mallory is cursed. Tracing this unfortunate family legacy back to her great-grandfather’s adoption of the surname “Mallory,” which means unlucky, she has lived under a cloud of small and epic disasters. When she discovers that her twin sister and mother have transcended the curse by marrying and changing their names, Eva develops a new strategy – find a husband, change her name and find freedom from the curse.

I was a bit put off by the first few chapters. The premise seemed silly, and the tone felt superficial. However, the further I read, the more I was drawn into Eva’s life, which is depicted with both sensitivity and humor. Some of the descriptions of her students, her family and her own shortcomings were laugh-out-loud funny. As a counterpoint to the humor, there is an exploration of Eva’s personal growth as she is willing to be more vulnerable in developing friendships and coming to terms with curse. At times the pacing felt bogged down by the repetition of Eva’s reasons for avoiding romance, but the ending is touching and worth the wait.

Overall, this was a quick, light-hearted, and enjoyable read. I look forward to more books by the author.

My thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the privilege of reviewing this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a cute, fun rom-com that's silly at times and kind of sweet. Eva is so wrapped up in believing her family is cursed due to their name that I think she's making some of her own bad luck.

    The Description:
Eva Mallory is the unluckiest woman in the world, a fact which is attributed, in her family, to their name, and has subjected every member to a lifetime of misfortune. After accidentally burning down the venue of her twin Hanna’s anniversary party, Eva discovers that her sister’s luck has completely turned around since her wedding day. In that moment, Eva decides there’s only one thing for it. She needs to find herself a husband too, and fast. But with the distractions of her husband hunt, Eva completely forgets about the family curse. But the curse has not forgotten about her…

    My Thoughts:
Some of the book is just too silly for me, but overall it was fun and the romance was hot and steamy.
I couldn't really relate to Eva much, she just seemed too wrapped up in her bad luck - although it did seem she got more than her fair share. The plot was simple and it was a quick, fun read.

Thanks to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on July 14, 2023.

Thanks NetGalley for the chance to read this!
I agree with so many others: when you first open this, the premise seems a little corny. Eva's cursed and her family is gunna "fix it" by having her shed her family name and get married. I inwardly groaned a bit thinking this was going to be a little anti-feminine: who 'needs' a man to be free from a curse?
BUT stick around and keep reading: this is SUCH a cute read. The family dynamics are so well drafted, Eva's internal struggle with guilt, success, love, and personal fulfillment are really well constructed, and the romance is just the perfect blend of steamy and loving. I genuinely enjoyed every second of this: do NOT let the premise drive you away!

It was cute and funny but a bit too over the top silly at times. I didn't really connect with any of the characters either so for me this was just alright.

    3 1/2 elevated to 4.

This is like a comedy of errors with a lot of cringe moments for poor Eva, along with poignant moments between her and her family, and between her and Luke.

Eva is convinced she must marry in order to break the extreme-bad luck in her life, and embarks on a husband hunt with the help of her family. Obviously, things do not go well.

When she and Luke meet and have an instant connection, looks like her luck is about to change.

I love the Polish culture, the aunts and everything they bring to the story.

I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Fun, lighthearted romcom that will pull at your heartstrings!

Eva Mallory is cursed and marriage is the key to her breaking it (or so she thinks). Her family legacy is riddled with bad luck reminiscent of Stanley Yelnats and the family lore all points to her last name being the cause. Tired of being “unlucky” she is on a mission to find Mr Right as soon as possible and be rid of the “Mallory” name! Full of hilarious moments, heartwarming characters and a swoon worthy romance “Eva Mallory’s Husband Hunt” was a great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hugely entertaining.

Kathryn's excellent writing just keeps getting taughter and sharper. Her characters feel genuine and their feelings/tender moments seem entirely credible. A hugely enjoyable, entertaining read. There is a proper plot conclusion that satisfys. Much better than Bridget Jones Diary, this book deserves to be a proper 'made in Yorkshire' British Film rom-com. (Only thing missing from the text is Eva's family recipe for periogi. They sound delicious but I have never had one. Wikipedia mentions St Hyacinth and offers many recipe variations but which is the most popular - and, most importantly, if I helped consume a seasonal 100 could I afford the calories?)

After reading Katherine's debut romance, LBBL, I knew I was going to devour her second story with gusto... And despite the indigestion from eating it too quickly, I am left content and nourished from the starter all the way to the cheese board.

In short, this romance has genius pacing, a slow burn with twists and turns, with an uplifting message of counting your blessings. The twin sister dyad is brilliant. The various mishaps, hilarious. The ciocias 🩷

If you want to enjoy a bit of steam as it brushes alongside an uplifting storyline... Pick this book up 🩷

Wow!! I just loved this book SOOOOO much. For a start, the characters are brilliant, the relationship between Hannah and Eva is poignant and hilarious.

As Hannah starts her quest for a husband cheered on by her brilliant family, she meets all manner of unsuitable men but it's the one man she can't have that she wants the most!
