4.1 out of 5 stars 1,330 ratings

Lady Rebecca, a Duke’s daughter, is attracted to a man snubbed by society who could ruin her reputation. But she believes in him. Is that a mistake?

The Duke of Landon has finally had to leave his estate to launch his three eldest daughters in London society. Having been something of a distant father, he finds the prospect rather difficult, until a chance meeting with one Lady Hayward. Forming an alliance, he leaves them in Lady Hayward’s care.

Rebecca, the eldest of the Duke’s daughters, is determined to make a suitable match this Season. Looking for a practical arrangement rather than affection, she is surprised when Lady Hayward steers her away from the one gentleman she cannot seem to stop thinking about.

Lord Jeffery Richmond spurned the advances of a lady of the ton and now has a poor reputation that is entirely unjustified. How can he save himself from ruin in society? And how can he pursue a relationship with the daughter of a Duke while in such a situation!

Can he convince her that he is not the man society believes him to be? Or will she turn away from him entirely, leaving him heartbroken and alone?

This is the first book in the Landon House series, where Lady Hayward and the Duke of Landon form an alliance to assist each other with difficulties of their family life. Get your copy today!

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

I enjoyed this story. Most of these books seem to have a formula, but I am fine with that. The characters are sufficiently fleshed out and likable. I am generally looking for a quick, easy read and they fill the bill nicely. I like that it’s clean regency romance. I recommend this book if you are looking for an easy read.

This was just ok for me.. as I continually found myself frustrated at the supposed 'Rakes' total lack of common sense concerning his predicament. He seemed weak and not sure Lady Rebecca would be attracted to such a gentleman. If he was a teenager, I could understand his lack of masculine maturity. On the positive side, I enjoyed the relationship between all the other characters. I especially liked Lady Rebecca for she was very insightful and strong willed while respectful. A good heart who believes the best in people.

Since their mother's death, the maternal responsibilities have fallen to the eldest daughter, Rebecca. Their father has just told she and her two closest sisters in age that Rebecca will be in charge of outfitting she and her sisters for the season. This is their first time in London. How can she possibly know what is in style this season or what colors to chose for each of them?
Jeffrey is seeking a wife but finds most of the debutante and a particular married lady bothersome. When he accidentally meets a miss in the bookstore, he is drawn to her. She is intelligent and as much a lover of books as he is.
A wonderful and down right scary book, when someone is out to ruin, or even worse, your name! You won't want to miss out on another of Rose's stories.

I enjoyed this charming story where the heroine & the hero were attracted from the start. No hurtful denials, but a villainess that the reader will surely hate who threatens their happiness. I liked that the hero was not a rake & sweetly faithful. His character though, was a lot clueless about his decisions regarding his blackmailer. It was the women & his friend who had more sense. The heroine was smart, determined. Both were honest about their feelings.

I only got about half way through this book and was done. Lady Kensington was too ridiculous in her insistence of black mailing with gossip. Not sure why Ms Pearson thought this a good plot, but I was just annoyed. And the fact that Jeffry was considering giving into her just added to the annoyance.
In addition, Jeffry being so stupid as to continue landing in situations of being alone with her, the first time seemed unbelievable then the second time even more stupid.

Otherwise the writing was a little stilted and formal at times, but otherwise flowed fine.

I did not finish reading this book. I will be returning it as I was just frustrated with the story line.

I enjoyed this story of typical ton denial and their belief that all scandals are true, even if they know the "rake" involved have never been seen as dishonest and his accomplice is known for deceit. Lady Hayworth is a treasure in disguise and quite a character. Recommend this book and the delightful author.

Lady Rebecca is new to Society. She seems a husband, but it is her chaperone who suggests he should be more than just suitable.
Lord Richmond is not actively seeking a wife, but nor is he looking to cuckold a fellow Lord, yet that is what he is accused of.
So begins a most unusual love story. Rebecca is loyal and steadfast, Richmond is decent (and a bit wet to my mind) and refuses to risk Rebecca's good name. There is a wicked lady and nefarious plans to overcome. Enjoyed it.

Lord Richmond finds himself blackmailed by a woman he rejected and becoming further entangled in her web. His determination to protect Lady Rebecca’s reputation blinds him to the underlying purpose behind the tasks the blackmailer sets him. Luckily when he finally comes clean to those closest to him, they are able to not only free him but avert a tragedy.

Style is constrained reflecting the era setting.Characters are clear-cut and believable ,suitable for the period, while being as bold as need be. The extra dimension of the puzzle added to the enjoyment of the story.
