Paris, Tuesday 22nd August 1911. The very air of the city is charged with outrage. The Mona Lisa is missing from its place of honour in the Louvre.

‘What audacious criminal, what mystifier, what manic collector, what insane lover, has committed this abduction?’ the Paris newspapers demand.

Sherlock Holmes emerges from retirement to reveal the truth of the
Affaire de La Joconde, a story of incompetence, villainy, greed, and international intrigue involving an Italian house painter, American tycoon J P Morgan, and suave Argentinian con man, the Marqués de Valfierno.

Follow Holmes and Watson as they track the thief from Paris to Rome, Pompeii, and finally Mona Lisa’s home city, Florence. Based on, and structured around, the facts of the infamous 1911 case to allow readers to make up their own minds on the culprit(s). Weigh the evidence and decide who do you think dunnit!

Mike's early interest in all things Victorian led to a university degree in English and research on Thomas Carlyle from which he rebounded into writing mostly humour.

His first books were a series of Sherlock Holmes pastiches featuring schoolboy Winston Churchill as the cuckoo in the nest at 221b Baker Street - now available as a box set. A novel and six collections of traditional Sherlock Holmes themed short stories followed, and he is working on further volumes.

His recent novel in which Holmes and Watson are on the trail of the two fiends who stalked London in 1888, Jack the Ripper and the Thames Torso murderer, won second prize in the annual Ripperology Books competition.

His coming-of-age novel set in London in 1963 - Hamlet and Me - is based on his working-class, Anglo-Irish upbringing. A novel set in Rome in 575 AD reflects his interest in early Christianity and all things Roman, and a comedy based on the aftermath of the 2016 US presidential election was informed by his annual railroad odyssey around and across the United States on Amtrak.

The 8th in his Sherlock Holmes short story collection, Sherlock Holmes: The Tesla Tele-automaton and other Stories is available on Amazon. For more information on Mike and his books see http://mikehoganauthor.com.

I read many Sherlock Holmes books, and I like Mike's books the best. The mysteries are good, and are funny, too. The books have many historical facts as well. I have read every one of them so far. I hope to get his latest book for Christmas.

Stealing da Vinci's Mona Lisa turns out to have been remarkably simple in Victorian times. The major problem is to find it without any fuss and to return it to France without a major incident (war). Holmes and Watson have their work cut out for them in this international scandal.

When I first saw this it looks so interesting. I was excited to go back in to the world of Sherlock Holmes. The time and piece are obviously after his most famous years when he has retired. The key thing is the Mona Lisa is stolen based on true facts from the 1911 theft. You can follow along with the story and see what ins and outs and things that they discuss and discover. However, it got slow for me. It felt like there were so many details that it was hard to actually get through the story. If you read it just take that in mind and enjoy the book.

Good story with an interesting plot. However, it has little of the brilliant observations and deductions I expect from SH.

This book was very interesting to read and had a very engaging plot. Basically, to put it short, this book was an absolute delight to read and, even though Sherlock Holmes is fictional, the plot can happen any time. It was very nice to read, even if it wasn't an actual Arthur Canon Doyle book, it was still fascinating to read. By Andrew, age 10

Kept hoping the story would pick up pace but it continued on its laborious journey. Never mind if is quite the cure for insomnia.
