Moonstruck Kiss: A Single Dad, Enemies to Lovers, Small Town Romance (Moonstruck Cove) Paperback – February 19, 2024

4.1 out of 5 stars 41 ratings

As a career-driven investment banker and a fish-out-of-water single dad, all I want is some help to bond with my son. I never thought that a gorgeous but smart-mouthed art teacher from a small town could have me risking my job. And, yes, my heart, too.

BRAXTON

I’m a workaholic investment banker with career goals at the forefront of my life—until I’m suddenly the sole parent of a four-year-old boy whose existence I wasn’t aware of until recently. Yup, I’m still picking myself up from the floor.

I love him already and want to bond with him, but I’m clueless when it comes to fatherhood. So, I take my son on a trip to small-town Moonstruck Cove to get a crash course from my parents on how to be a good dad.

What I don’t anticipate is my child instantly bonding with the town’s art teacher, the sassy—and beautiful—Joey Barker. It’s not ideal because that woman still holds a grudge from our clash a year ago when I was last in town.

When a potential big client decides that they want to acquire Joey’s family’s chocolatier business at any cost, I need to fire on all cylinders to keep my stellar reputation intact. But navigating secret dealings is not easy while I’m struggling to conceal my undeniable attraction for Joey.

I just hope she never finds out what I’m at pains to hide: That every time I see a smirk on that pretty face of hers, I want to wipe it off with an all-consuming kiss.

Moonstruck Kiss is a single dad, enemies to lovers, small-town romantic comedy with entertaining banter, swoon-worthy sweetness, and steamy love.

It is set in a fictional small town in Australia, and Australian spelling is used throughout the book.

Miranda P. Charles writes steamy, stirring and swoonworthy contemporary romance, romcom, and romantic suspense books.

She prefers to spend her time in front of her laptop, putting into words the stories that play in her head. Don't get her started with reading a great book, though, because she tends not to put it down until she gets to the last page.

She does have a life outside of books. Mostly, that consists of bonding with family and friends or going on romantic trips with her awesome husband.

She lives in Sydney, Australia.

Brax decided to go back to his hometown to be with his parents while he figures out how to raise Ollie. While visiting his hometown, he inevitably runs into his arch nemesis Joey who lives and breathes her small town of Moonstruck Cove. Joey is an art teacher and also helps out her parents with their chocolatier company! Ollie ends up being an art prodigy and begs his dad to take classes at Joey’s art studio. Through this, Joey & Brax end up spending more time together. This was such a fun, sweet, & steamy small town enemies to lovers romance with a single dad (my favorite trope ever)! The fun & witty banter between Brax & Joey had me smiling. Their nicknames were absolutely adorable for each other and not cringy at all. Brax called her dimple (she has one little dimple) & Joey called him slick (short for city slicker). When the drama unfolds, Brax’s grand gestures are just soooo swoony! I will say that this book takes place in Australia and the author also lives in Australia so there is some Australian dialect. However, I really enjoyed this one 🥰

While this is a romantic comedy, it was also a very emotional read at times. This story takes places in a small-town where everyone knows your business, which is the last thing that Brax wants as he tries to adjust to being a father to a 4-year-old boy. What he doesn't realize though at the beginning is that the townspeople also have each other's back and will pitch in to help each other out - because that is what their town is built on.

Joey wears many hats as she works at her parents' chocolate shop and is also the town's art teacher. The last time she saw Brax, he said some horrible things to her and as such, they are enemies. So, she is not prepared the bonding she feels with Ollie (Brax's son), who has plenty of artistic talent. The only thing is that spending time with Ollie means interacting with Brax.

I loved the banter between these two main characters and that their attraction to each other eventually lead to a relationship. While Brax starts out leery of everyone knowing his business, he comes to find out they are good hearted when they help to protect him and his son for outsiders.

"But I’d rather try my hardest to make it work and be heartbroken if it doesn’t pan out than be heartbroken because I’ve been too foolish to give it a chance.”

    Single Dad

Brax, an investment banker from NYC comes to Moonstruck Cove Austrialia to see his family and bond with his newly found 3 year old son.
Joey, a local artist/art instructor and daughter of the owner of a local chocolate shop, holds a grudge, dislike and distrust of Brax after things he said to her one year ago.

Joey has kept Brax's words a secret from all the Moonstruck citizens, so they don't understand why Joey is still holding a grudge after a fight a year ago. When Brax recalls the words he said, he genuinely apologizes, and it's water under the bridge. Joey and Brax begin a secret physical relationship with the remaining weeks Brax has in town. But what happens when time is up but love has grown?

Ollie, Brax 4-year old is a young art prodigy. He easily falls in love with Joey as she teaches him and fosters his love and skill for art.

While Brax and Ollie fall into love with Joey, Brax is holding a secret. Will his job come between them?

    ARC Review

I was lucky enough to read this as an ARC. This was a cute fling trope. This was a fun change of pace setting, set in Australia. This was a quick easy read.

This book touched my heart in so many ways. I think Brax’s son Ollie was my favorite! Brax worked for a financial institution in New York City making a lot of money when he found out he had a four year old boy he never knew about. Brax decides to go to Moonstruck Cove where his parents have a business and live to give him and Ollie time to get to know one another and get away from all the attention. Brax was excited to see Joey again until she gives him attitude. Unfortunately the two had argued when Brax left the last time and Joey had not forgotten what Brax said. Joey had a painting school that Ollie wanted to attend. You will be pleasantly surprised to read about his talents. Brax was really such a nice guy, but the man that took over as his boss was a deceitful man that got Brax in a lot of trouble with Joey, her family and the town. This is such a good love story that I strongly encourage you to read it.
